Hi Girls,

I'm just looking for some opinions, past experiences, etc.... I'm new to the board, but figure that I might as well start in with a big question.

First I'll give the background....I have an 18 month old little boy and am still nursing. I have only had one period since giving birth (lucky I know, but it's led me to take many hpts just to make sure, lol). For the last week or two I have been having strong food cravings and have been really moody. I have also just had a "heavy" feeling in my lower abdomen/pelvic area and just have a weird feeling that I may be pregnant. I had no early pregnancy symptoms with my first pregnancy.

Last night I took a Fact Plus hpt. The control line and the horizontal line in the result window appeared right away. The horizontal line in the result window is actually made up of very small dots. Above the horizontal line (where the cross of a positive result would normally appear) I saw 5 very small dots. There was nothing below the horizontal line and the dots were not all next to one another. Has anyone ever had this happen before??? Is it actually a positive??? I took another test this afternoon after work and got the same thing, but only 1 dot above the horizontal line. I'm thinking that I'll test again in the morning with first morning urine. What do you girls think?????

TIA for taking the time to read my post!!!!

Sorry that i haven't updated in a while but I've been sick and my internet hasn't been working. I got the results of my blood work back and everything appeared to be in the normal range, but the doctor still thinks that I could have mild PCOS due to the results of my u/s. I haven't discussed the other symptoms of PCOS that I have, but I definitely have a majority of the symptoms. Now I am completely unsure of what to think. I know that the blood work isn't the determining factor but I know that it is often a good indicator. My husband is still traveling for work and the stress that this has put on me has been putting some strain on our relationship. My husband didn't necessarily want to have a third child but had agreed that since it was something that I really wanted that we would try at some point. Since I was very young I had always wanted to have 2 babies. I have 2 now, but the oldest is my stepson and I wasn't around for the first 7 years of his life. I love him like my own but truly would like to give birth to a second baby. My husband loves being a dad, but was just worried that if we had a third, that we wouldn't be able to provide them with everything that they need financially. He was an only child and loved the extra attention that he received and that they were able to afford more since there was only one. He was open to more children, but if we didn't have another he wouldn't have been upset. However we were planning on trying when our youngest son is about 4 (he is 19 months right now). I know that it would be a huge financial strain for us to have a child within the next year or two, but I am concerned about what my chances of conceiving will be in 3 more years. The doctor suggested that I visit with him after I stop nursing, but I have so many questions. My husband would like to go to the doctor with me to discuss what he thinks the best options for us would be. Do we try now? Do we wait and see what it looks like in 3 years? I'm also frustrated with my husband b/c he keeps saying "you want a baby, let's have another" and "I'd be willing to try now if the doctor thinks it's best". I know that sounds supportive, but to me it sounds like he's only doing it b/c I want one and that he truly doesn't want another. He has told me that he was actually disappointed when we found out that I wasn't pregnant last month, but then he says these things that are truly hurtful. I'm so emotionally drained right now. He is gone for another week which makes things really difficult and it will be probably 2 more weeks until we could even discuss with the doctor together. Also, I'm not on birth control now, so that puts an added stress on me if we decide to wait. Sorry for the super long post, but I just feel a lot better getting this down in writing. Thanks again for all of your support and advice!

Thanks girls! After my visit to the doctor this week I won't be taking any pregnancy tests any time soon. I am very much NOT pregnant. My uterine lining is not even at the low end of normal for an ovulating (non-nursing) woman. The ultrasound showed no pregnancy. I will be following up next week with the doctor for blood tests because my symptoms are still persisting. Hopefully we will have some answers soon :) Thanks again girls!

Well your doctor seems to be good. Doing a lot of tests to explore any possibility will be and ordeal but worth it in the end however the outcome. Not knowing is torture on your thoughts. If something comes up than you can deal with it and I'm sure that you shouldn't worry about concieving again yet. One day at a time my Mom always says. We live in a time where we have so many advances in medicne. That stinks you don't have your husband with you at this time but thank goodness for girlfriends! Girls can understand uterus talk better than men anyway! :) In the meantime enjoy your little one every second!

PCOS is not really something to worry a whole lot about.....I have an 18 month old daughter and am pregnant with my second due in March. I have PCOS. If you want to concieve your doctor can put you on Glucophage to help you ovulate and it will help make your periods regular. How long have you been doing the HPTs? With this pregnancy I went through a month of taking tests that were negative before I spent the extra money on the Clear Blue Digital. Not even 2 minutes after peeing on it there was a positive result! good luck!

I would retry.  I love using First Response (otherwise known as FRED) as that has the lowest number of hormones that can detect pregnancy. Sometimes the digitals or other test need you to have a much higher pregnancy hormone to be detected.

I had a bit of a pregnancy scare a few months back, I had the same pregnant feeling (tummy heaviness, sore breasts, lack of period) and hormones were way out of whack, it turned out for me that I had hypothyroidism and now I am on thyroid medication and I feel back to normal. I hope all works out for you.

I went to my doctor yesterday and I'm still kind of in shock from my appointment. We confirmed that I am not pregnant, but are now trying to figure out what is causing all of my symptoms. My doctor met with me and discussed all of my symptoms and how it has been affecting me and then did a pelvic exam and vaginal ultrasound. The lining of my uterus is only 3.7mm which is why I have been not getting a period. The normal range for uterine lining for a woman in her 20's is 5-15mm. The doctor did tell me that my lining may still be thin because of the breastfeeding though, which didn't worry him too much. However, when he looked at my ovaries he noticed that one of them appears to be polycystic. He told me that this may actually make conceiving difficult for me when my husband and I begin trying again. I don't know what to think now. My husband and I were hoping to wait another few years before actively trying again. Now I'm wondering if it would be better to try sooner. What if I develop cysts on my other ovary and am unable to conceive? My husband and I were a bit apprehensive to think that I might be pregnant earlier this month, but both of us were actually disappointed to hear that I am very much not pregnant. I definitely want to have another child, but I don't want to rush into something if it's not the right time. I'm an emotional rollercoaster lately with hearing the doctor's observations and hormones. As for a course of action, my doctor is taking me off of the minipill just to rule out late-onset side effects as the cause of my symptoms. He thinks that my symptoms will continue even off of the pill and if they are continuing in a week I will be back in for a bunch of blood tests. He basically wants to run a test on my entire endocrine system next week. This blood test will be able to rule out anything wrong with my thyroid or hormone levels. The blood test should also be able to help tell if the cysts on my ovary are PCOS. Sorry for the long post but I just needed to put all of my thoughts down in writing. It especially doesn't help that my husband is away for business and not hear to go through this with me. Thank you all for your helpful words and advice!!!!

This happened to me when my son was a year old. My docotor did a blood test right away and it was negative. As soon as I relaxed I got my period.

I took another test this morning and it was negative. I don't know what to think because I'm nauseous (sp?) again tonight....it's been every afternoon for almost a week and I have another horrible headache. I'm also still breaking out and "feeling pregnant", but can't help but think that the odds of me being pregnant are so slim. I'll update more in a day or two....I just don't feel up to it tonight....

Sorry that it took me so long to update, but I've had a sick kiddo and not much time to get online. I've taken a couple more tests and they were negative. However, I've still been feeling slightly nauseous and have been getting headaches, as well as been really hungry a lot. Not sure what to think. I'll test again in a few days and let you know the results....

I would go get a blood test done with the Dr. With still breastfeeding it may be masking some of the pregnancy hormones, or you could still have some pregnancy hormones from breastfeeding. Also I was told that sometimes when you are pregnant and still breastfeeding, the milk will start to taste bad because of the hormones, so if your child is starting to not like to nurse, then that could be a sign that you are pregnant.

I had inconclusive home pregnancy tests with both of my pregnancies.  And like you, I am an impatient person.  I sprung for the test that had a digital readout.  It's easier than trying to decipher the crosses, lines, and dots.

What happened?

I always got the earliest most accurate results with First Response (3 weeks along)....you'll have to let me know the outcome! You have me very curious!!

Okay, so I took another one of the Fact Plus hpt tests this morning (with first morning urine) and I got 3 dots about the horizontal line. I also took an e.p.t. hpt with first morning urine and got 1 dot above the horizontal line. I'm totally baffled so I bought a First Response test (with 2 lines instead of a + sign) that I'm going to take tomorrow morning. I can't figure this one out.......ugh! I'm not the patient kind :)

I have never had this happen before but I think retesting in the A.M. is a good plan :) Good Luck!!
