I am having an awful time trying to decide if my little boy is ready to start kindergarten! His preschool teacher said he will be fine either way, but I am having nightmares about making the wrong decision!! He has had two years of preschool, is very smart, very sociable, listens well, he is my dream child! That being said, his b-day is July 30th & the the cutoff date for children entering school is July 31st. I just do not want him to be the youngest child in his class! He just seems so little to me yet & it is an all day long kindergarten, no half days. Everybody I have talked with, said that no Mother has every regretted holding their child back, but they have had issues with sending them. I am leaning toward keeping him home with me one more year...any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!

Susie is going to kindergarten this coming up school year. In our state they have to go to kindergarten at age 5 as long as they are 5 before October like 5 or somehting like that. kayla(7) went to preschool for one year adn her teachers said they like it when the kid goes one year of preschool then into kindergarten. Ms. Jane said it is easier for the kids that way(otherwise they see their friends going off and they stay behind). Susie is excited as am I that she will be going to school. Hopefully she will have either her brother or sisters old kindergarten teachers. She is also excited she will get to ride the school bus with her siblings. MY son Scot(9) is the oldest in his class(as he repeated kindergarten) and no one pays it no mind, he's just Scot. I will say I do get weepy when they go to school and I will be doubly weepy when my baby goes from baby/quasi big girl to full big girl(she says she's not a big girl since she's not in school). In our state it's full day school, head start then kindergarten on up. although preschool is half day.

I was one of the youngest in my class back in school, and it honestly no one paid it any mind. My daughter started out doing full day kindergarten without any preschool and I thought I was going to have a panic attack. A full day for a 5 yr old is quite a long day. But after the first few days my daughter loved it as they got into their routine. They have so many different activities they do throughout the day that my daughter never really knew the difference, other than wanting a short nap after school. But for us it was a wonderful opportunity and really helped my daughter. And where we live the teacher actually encouraged the parents if they wanted to come volunteer as much as possible. Ultimately it's up to you, and if you think they are ready.

My daughter's bday is July 27, and she is the second youngest in her pre-school class (our cut off date is August 31st) .. She is SUPER excited about going in to kindergarten - but she has also been in pre-school full day for 2 years. As a mother, you know whether or not he is ready for a full day, and either way, he'll be just fine. Good luck!
