When did you put your child in a toddler bed?

My son turned 2 in July and I am thinking about putting him in a toddler bed. But I am concerned because he moves a lot in his sleep and I am worried he will be getting out of it all the time. He does not even attempt to climb out of his crib, he just waits for me to come get him. So I'm wondering when/if you've put yours in a toddler bed and how it's going.

My son was put into his toddler bed at about 18-19 months old. We did it once he suddenly climbed out of his crib. We were worried he'd hurt himself. It did take some putting him back into his bed, repeatedly each night and for months in a row. But after a short time, he stayed in his bed at night. His room is near the stairs, though, and I still worry, so at night we put the baby gate in front of his room for safety reasons. I'm glad we did it and he's proud of his big-boy bed. But if yours isn't climbing out yet, I wouldn't rush it. My daughter was about 2 1/2 when we got her a toddler bed and she never climbed out of the crib. She just got too big for the crib. Good luck :)

I put my daughter in he big bed in August and she turned 2 at he beginning of July. She is a mover as well but she has done well. Her crib was one that went from crib, toddler, double. She sleeps in the double bed now.

Today, I put my son in a toddler bed for the 1st time. He turned 2 in July and he did awesome. My husband converted the crib into a toddler bed this afternoon. My son went into his room shut his door, turned out the lights and crawled into bed. I went in after him and he said "Night, Night!" I couldn't believe he had put himself down for a nap. I'm so proud of my little boy!! I did put up a side rail to make sure he doesn't fall out, so we will see what time he comes out of his room in the morning.

I am going through the same thing with my daughter. She has climbed out of her crib only once and never tried it again, but I have a beautiful big girl bed for her and am wondering when to move her. She still naps most days and needs it. I don't want to lose that, but I want her to have her bed. I think I moved the other two as the younger one moved to the crib, so I have no idea with my youngest. So the older two moved into bigger beds around 2 and a half.

she was in a toddler bed from the age of one.the thing is that you have to purchase a bed rail in the event that he rolls and put his bed to the wall

My was just over one when we moved him. He does great with it! He sleeps in there all the time, and when he gets up at night he'll come to my room take his cup from the mini fridge and climb into bed. This usually happens early morn so it's great! He used to move alot but we put those play mats all around his bed and it's perfect! We are planning on getting him a twin size bed when his lil brother moves to the toddler one. But he loves his "big boy bed"

I put mia in a bed at 18 month's old, we had trouble with her getting out of bed all the time. I removed all the toys from her room, the only thing she has in there is her bed and i put her draws against her bed so she can't open them. She can open her own door and comes out in the morning. I recently took her to tweedle and they gave me some good sleeping strategies and she is much better now except when shes sick.

My son was in a toddler bed at 17 months. He was able to crawl out of the criband actually knocked it over one night trying to get out. We haven't had any problems with him getting out of bed and he goes to sleep as soon as he's in bed since we put him in the toddler bed. It's been wonderful and I've slept much better since he's been in the toddler bed, back in January of this year.

I have 3 kiddos and I transitioned them into a toddler bed when they were about 18 months old. At this age, they seemed as if they weren't attached to the crib. I was afraid if I let them stay in the crib that they would get attached to if and wouldn't want to go to a new bed. So I talked the "new bed" idea up to them and all 3 transitioned very easily. They didn't get up through the night or anything. I just made the toddler bed part of moving up to the "big kid" world, just like potty training.

I put my son in his at around 19 months. He loved it, we do put a gate up so he can't get out of his room because he's always looking for trouble! But right around his 2nd birthday started this phase of being terrified of EVERYTHING in his room so he wanted to sleep in his playpen. We let that go on for about 2 weeks and then made him start sleeping in his race car toddler bed again and he was fine. He cried the first couple nights but that was it. He also turns his light on when he's scared, but he goes right to sleep after it's on, and we turn it off later!

I put my son in a "new bed" (as he calls it lol) last month. To my surprise, he has done GREAT!! The same night he got it he actually went in there and put himself to sleep (which has RARELY happened in 2 years) and slept all night. I was scared of him falling out as well but he has done great. Good luck with this!!

i put my son into a single bed just two weeks before his second birthday because he was allway's climbing out of his cot, even in the middle of the night plus he was just getting to heavy to lift all the time and my shoulders were getting a bit sore. i wasn't even thinking of putting him in a bed i was just gonna let him out grow it. I think i was more scared of him falling out of bed that's why i wasn't rushing well that hasn't happen once as i have it against the wall and just make sure i tuck him in tight, yeah the first few nights he was getting up a lot because it was even easier for him to get out but they get use to it , now he loves it because we can sit down and read bedtime stories in his big boy's bed .

We put our son in a toddler bed when he was 22 months. After the first week he adjusted and didn't seem to be scared. He does great in it. He still waits for me to come in his room before he gets out of bed.

I put my rather active daughter into a toddler bed when she was about 18 months old, she was ill at the time and I needed to be able to sit with her duing her worst moments. She took to the bed no problem at all, she does move around in the night, but as the bed is so low to the ground she doesn't hurt herself when she falls out, she just climbs back in bed and falls asleep again, usually before I even get to her!
I had considered putting her back in the cot when she felt better, but she enjoyed the freedom and independence that the bed offered her, that I couldn't take it away from her.
I too was concerned, but just go for it, you'll soon be wondering why you were worried :)

We put our son in a double bed when he was 21 months old. It's very high off the floor, so it is against the wall on one side and has a safe rail on the other. He can climb in and out by himself. We talked about it a lot before making the transition, so that when the mattresses arrived, he was very excited about his new, big bed. He has all his "friends" (stuffed toys) lined up along the foot of the bed and a few up by the headboard. He really loves his big bed. And, we love it, too: when he was ill and needed extra attention, I was able to sleep with him comfortably -- that way my husband was able to get some sleep.

My first child was 18 months when we transitioned him into a toddler bed. To this day, he still does not like sleeping in his bed (now 4yrs). My second child was 23 months when we moved him into a toddler bed and he LOVES it! We knew he was ready because he would climb into his brother's bed when he got tired.

My little girl was 17 months, she has been fine although she is a fidget when she sleeps we just used a bed guard as she sleeps on the bottom of a bunk bed, but if still worried try a cotbed or toddler bed as they are very low so it wont hurt if he does fall.xx

I put all three of my boys in toddler beds between 1.5 and 2 and they all did ok yes they sometimes sleep on the floor and even sometimes under their bed but that is to be accepted just make sure they cant get out of the room like using a gate or something cause the last thing you want is to wake up and your 2 yr old has been in the food and possibly makeup

My lil guy was in a toddler bed at 12mths! I got him one of those car shaped beds that fit a crib mattress. Fairly low to the ground too. It's been great. He got used to it quite quickly. He gets up on his own which is nice, but he can be sneaky! I've woken up and he's pushed his lil stool to the pantry, climbed up, grabbed a handfull of cookies and climbed into bed with me, cookie crumbs and all! I'd say go for it. My guy rolls a lot too and usually I just find him sleeping sideways on his bed. Not much of a concern.

We put our son in a toddler bed at 22 months. He almost NEVER sleeps in it but sleeps on a big mat we have on the floor or on a huge stuff fuzzy bunny. Yet it seems lately he is sleeping in it more and more. He rolled out maybe once but that is why we put the mat and bunny there. Now if he rolls out he does hurt a thing. He moves around a bit at night and then goes to sleep. We don't try to keep him in bed. A friend told me not to do that. We do have a bolt on the door so he won't be able to get out on his own. All of his toys are in our living room and he spends most of his time there. He only goes in his room for diaper changes and bed. Also to wrestle with me and kick his ball around. He isn't allowed to kick the ball in the living room.
