What kind of developmental gifts are you getting your soon-to-be-two-year-old?

Thinking about getting harry a "balance bike". basically a small 2 wheel bicycle w/out the wheels. we just tried a big wheels tricycle today and his legs were too short to reach the pedals plus his feet kept on getting jammed in the undercarriage. not good. i hear the balance bike makes an easier transition to regular bike. my friend bought one for her 2 yr old son and he seems to be doing well with it. I would love to splurge on a water/sand table too since summer is coming.

So far I've bought her a Step2 Kitchen set, and 3 Melissa and Doug play food sets to go with it.. I gave her the cutting set early, and she loves it!

Willow loves our neighbors kids' trike, so I think we are going to get her one of those. I saw a Dora one at the store that looked really cool. And a fold and store slide, because she LOVES the slide at the park. And her first baby doll, because she has been calling her stuffed animals 'baby' and she'll use a towel to tuck them in and put them to 'nigh'-night'...it's so adorable. and I'm sure a few books, as we do with all holidays, and some puzzles.

We are getting our boy a go-cart. He wants to ride his brothers bike, but unfortunately for Leo he takes after me height-wise and can't reach the pedals. We found a metal Thomas one and he can reach the pedals.

We are definitely getting the Tag Junior for my daughter since she loves her older sister's Tag. And I bought her stroller for her dolls. Other than that I am not really sure yet. We have so much stuff from my older daughter. We also love the Melissa and Doug brand toys. They have some really great wooden toys. And anything LeapFrog. If you haven't purchased the My Puppy Pal from LeapFrog, I recommend it. Very cool toy. Great for in the crib/bed.

Hey Anna: Just an FYI on the Radio Flyer Retro Grow and Go bike. It was bought for my daughter who turns 2 in July and it tips forward very easily. It went back to the store due to concerns of her getting seriously injured. I think they may have another version that does not tip over so easily but I recommend investigating and reading reviews to make sure. My daughter is so tiny she couldn't reach the pedals and when it was adjusted forward it was very unstable. Hope you find a safer one. Good Luck.

I dont think we can fit any more developmental toys in thishouse since our son who is 3 and our oldest who is 7 still have all of theirs but what we did do since she likes to playoutside on her brothers lilquad 4wheeler but the two of them cant fit at once on it we saw a barbie jeep at a yard sale for $15 needs new battery this jeep was kept in the shed its not fadded or broken nothing just needs a battery so $50 and it works perfect. We spent $65 on a barbie jeep that looks and works like new. And at wal mart they cost $219 now the question is where do we store it.

I want to get my daughter (2 on 15th July) a play kitchen. She loves baking and cooking with me and loves playing with her little tea set and I think she'd love it. Even her big brother would play with her - he's just turned 3

My dad and hubby are building a cubby in the backyard for her. We have some mini kitchen cupboards from when I was a kid that can go out there. With all the other stuff she will get off friends, that's all she is getting from Mum and Dad.
I suggested to family to get her:
magic painting books - with water and they dry
sand and water table - toysrus have them atm
a felt board that she can stick felt characters to
simple puzzles
leap frog fridge phonics - magnetic letters that they push and it says the letters. i think you can get one for numbers too

Place & Trace Puzzles (set of 3 plastic puzzles), zoo mobiles, fingerplays and fun cd, busy pets, the little mouse, the red ripe strawberry and the big hungry bear set from Discovery Toys. It might be considered cheating since I'm an Educational Leader with Discovery Toys:) I love our products sooo much! Learning tools disguised as toys with a lifetime guarantee! Can't beat that they've never had a safety recall in 30 years! Sorry don't mean to sell it. Just LOVE it soooo much. Contact me if want to know more:)

My daughter will be 2 in July and we have already started to purchase some gifts for her. She LOVES Dora (the theme of her party) so we got her a couple Dora dolls and a Princess Barbie. Her imagination goes wild even with dolls! We also got her some of the Preschool Jumbo Puzzles and an automatic bubble blower (even though she loves blowing them herself, we thought it'd be fun for her to try something new). We got her two things that are considered developmental toys and those are; Leap Frogs AlphaPet Explorer and Vtechs Touch and Learn Storytime. The first one she'll be able to push each letter of the Alphabet and depending on what setting it's at she will hear the letters name, sound, music, ect. The second one is kind of like the Tag Jr from Leap Frog. This one however, has the story books included and is $30. She'll be able to move the "pen" across each page of the different stories and it will teach her thinkgs like shapes, colors, letters, ect. She already knows a great deal of those things, but she loves books! The last thing that we will be getting her is the Fisher Price Rock Roll N Ride Trike. I've looked at so many different Trikes and Ride ons that I decided on this one because she can use it up until 5 years old (a lot of the other ones I looked at are only until 3yo). I also like this one because it can be converted into a "rocking horse", a handle for an adult to push, or a Trike she can ride on all by herself. With a two year old, I swear there are endless possibilities! Should be fun!

Well, my little guy decided he could ride a tricycle today. He's 22 months and he spent about an hour on it and peddled the whole time. So, I guess 2 yrs maybe is a good age for tricycles. I have one with a push bar for the parents and that is quite a nice feature.

I don't know if these are traditionally developmental, but I want to get her an outdoor playhouse and a microphone of some sort.

Haley watches her older twin sisters and seems to be so much further than her sisters were at her age. We were at Target the other day and they had a display to try. We sat her on it and she was off on her own. I had similar concerns about her ability to actually ride it, but after chasing her around Target I think it is a good choice for us. That might be something to try is take the child to the store and see if you can "try out" some things.

Haley will be 2 in July and we plan to get her the Radio Flyer adjustable tricycle. It grows with her and will be perfect for outdoor summer play. It even comes in pink and purple since she is a girly girl. She also loves Melissa and Doug items and many of the Leap Frog line. And if all else fails...books, books, books!

[deleted account]

My sons REALLY loves his Melissa & Doug Deluxe 10-Piece Magnetic Fishing Game, his Plan Toys Cone Sorting toy, a super bouncy green ball with some liquid inside about the size of a tennis ball that I bought at Target (it is helping him learn to run incredibly fast), bubbles, washable crayola markers, various wooden puzzles, the DVD called Raffi in Concert (he is now starting to SING the words to some of the songs... boy is that CUTE to hear him sing... and has loved to dance to it for many months!), and three board books:
I Know a Rhino
Sometimes I Like to Curl up in a Ball
The Little Mouse, The Red Ripe Strawberry and the Big Hungry Bear

There are a lot of Melissa and Doug brand toys that I like (puzzles, stacking toys, shape sorters, etc).. I also plan to get a Tag Junior Leapfrog reader for Brandon's birthday.. I went to Toys R Us and did a birthday registry, so I can just refer guests to this list when they ask for ideas (playdoh, finger paint, tricycle).
