My 9 month old girl came down a cough and cold last week (Wednesday). It is a hacking cough and can wake her up. I took her to the doctor's on Friday who said it was just a really bad cold. Occasionally she will also throw up. Her top four teeth are also coming in. On Thursday she was really lethargic and just wanted to sleep all day and wanted to be held all night. Every night since Wednesday has been really rough and she's up every 1 - 2 hours. Last night she coughed and vomited twice in the middle of the night. What should I do? Could this be related to an allergy i.e. cheese? or is this related to teething or the cold? I'm not sure what to do or how to make her feel better. She is so congested and we give her saline solution every night, we also have a vaporizer in her room and we have put a wedge under the mattress to put her head on an incline and none of it is working! Any help would be appreciated!

Getting her checked out again at the doc's is something you should do immediately. Teething + cold + solids(if she is having any) can sometimes do this. I went through this precisely a month ago when my DS was 8 month old. This is what I did. Reduced solids drastically. Shifted to fluids. Lots of fluids helps the cold and cough go away. Soups are GOOD.

If the bed incline is not helping, use a soft pillow..adult pillow. Let her sleep propped up on the pillow. Please be very close to her, especially if she is a belly sleeper. Else just use yoru car seat / bouncer for a few days. Let her sleep in it.

Home remedies for cough: These are going to be looked down upon by most here, but these are typical indian grandma's recipes and have repeatedly worked my for son.

If severe cold - add a pinch of dry turmeric powder to a spoonful of milk and let her drink it 3 times a day. If severe cough - one spoonful of honey with a few drops of ginger juice in it. Shred fresh ginger and squeeze juice out. No pastes please. Honey will soothe her throat - dont use too much honey, a very small spoonful is enough. An adult spoonful could choke the baby. The ginger will cure the cough within a few days. The honey will also keep her belly calm and will prevent her from throwing up a lot.

For congestion : run a hot shower in the bthroom for a few minutes and sit with her close to the shower. let her inhale the steam. If you do this right before she sleeps, she will be able to sleep rightaway and might not wake up for a few hours. make sure her chest, back and nose is exposed to the steam. It helps.

Now back to the doc - what is the vomiting related to? the doc can help you best. it is very difficult to detect any allergies, especially food related allergies. But the docs have seen it all and I am sure they will be able to help you out.

Good Luck!

poor little darling, hope you are doing ok too. my dd woke at 3am one morning and vomited everywhere a couple of weeks ago too, she had 3 teeth trying to cut through.
I'd definitely get her checked out again, she may also get an ear infection with all that going on with her little body.

Call the doctor back and be insistent that she be seen again. There's no shame in being a pain in the butt to make sure your kiddo is OK. I'm sure our pediatrician's nurse wants to strangle me, but I don't care.
Good luck.
