Three days after I had my son in July of 2008 (delivered 8 weeks early), I developed post-partum hypertension. No one can give me a real reason for why it happened. We would love to have another child, but I am worried about having this problem again. I almost stroked from having such a high blood pressure, but the docs don't seem to worry about it. Any thoughts?

I had a similar experience.. I taught aerobics during my pregnancy.. at 38 weeks I taught a class.. the next day at my dr appt I had elevated bp and protein in my urine.. my blood test came back ok, so they just put me on bed rest.. That Sunday (10 days early) I went into labor on my own.. When I delivered my son my bp was 170/110.. luckily my labor was only 4 hours long.. They kept trying to put me in new positions to lower my bp and keep the baby satisfied until delivery.. I had to stay an extra day in the hospital because my blood platelet count dropped after delivery.. I went home on bp medication and had a follow up appt less than a week later.. by then I was back to normal.. I definitely plan to have another baby.. everyone says that every pregnancy is different.. There are always medical risks involved in pregnancy.. You just have to be aware of the risks and make an informed decision.. We are waiting until Brandon is 3 before we add another baby.

I had this same problem. I had my daughter at 39 weeks. When I was having her I was having High Blood Pressure. They gave me Epidural for the pain, and my pressure were still high. I had my daughter and it didn't go down either. I am a RN and they had taught us that Preeclamia will go away after you deliver the baby. Not true apparently. Still had my pressure the nurses didn't tell me. I was discharged 2 days later. That night my husband call 911 cause I started shaking. my pressures reached 220/110. and my heart rate was high. They sent me home again saying I should talk to my doctor. The doctor admitted to the hospital which i stayed there for a week until my pressures were under control and was sent home with blood pressure medication. The case that happened to me falls under the 10% that it would stay after giving birth.

I do want to have another baby but my husband is to scared. Being a nurse I know that if your doctor has the history of this happening to you. you would be considered high risk. The would monitor you more closely instead of how it was in the first. I hope this has helped you a bit. Just remember to always ask you doctor and tell him your concerns.
