Im pretty sure he knows "Nana"... Just wondering where everyone is with this?!!? I never refer to myself as Mama, so I wont get that as his first word....hmm maybe I should!?

I just hate referring to myself in the third person.

Oh he has the screaming down pat too... he just loves the sound of his scream!

My daughter says "mum mum" and "da da" but not sure if she knows the meaning. She's also done the sign for "more" but not sure if she knows the meaning of is just copying me. Unfortunately her daddy has taught her to pant like a dog and growl like a monster because he thinks its funny. I'm trying to convince him to work on hugs & kisses instead. : )

My son says da da da. When he cries he says ma ma ma.  and the other day he was chasing the dog saying pup pup pup.  He also repeats Hiiiii!!! a lot -super cute.  Don't know if he's making the connections to what he's saying, but it's a big difference from the va va va he's stuck with for the last few months.

My son comprehends a lot of words (share, give, puppy, kitty, Mugsy, Bear, mama, dada, gramps, nana, stop), but could care less about talking. I think it's definitely the inherent male-female differences. He much prefers to walk and be active. He'll leave talking to the girls lol!

My daughter refuses to talk.  She loves to squeal, shriek, scream, and sing (we sing at bedtime and she squeals right along with me).  We read books all the time too, and she loves them and loves hearing people talk in general, so I know she has enough exposure.  I guess she's still studying before she tries it herself.  I think she has said "mama" a couple of times when she was really upset, but other than that, nothin'.  Oh, and I know that she knows that "hi" and "bye" mean she's supposed to wave because she always waves when someone says it and doesn't also wave.  And an excited "yea" means that she's supposed to clap, and she does that too.

She balbles and makes all kinds of other noises. She def undertands words though. If we tell her nink she knows it is time to drink and bye bye and a bunch of other words liek sleepy for bed time.

My daughter was just over 5 months when she said 'dad' for the first time. Now she can say: dad, daddy, dada, mum, and bub so dad in its variations is definately her fav word. I always refer to myself in third person and my friends and I all got into the habit of adding 'bubba' onto all thier names so it' bubba lachlan' and 'bubba paige' which has helped them all learn to say 'bub' or 'bubba' (so we no longer have to say it) and they all know what it means so when we are in the shops and pass another baby my daughter starts say 'bub bub bub' over and over.

seems to know I'm mum (we use that here, not mom/mama) and says it, and seems to be saying ba ba ba for bottle?
lots of words she knows but can't say like cow, cat, dog, baby. If I say cow she looks out the window to try and see the cows.

My son seems to know to call me "mama" He also seems to call a lot of familiar men in his life "dada". (dada isnt around) He also does the random baba, nana, dada, no, kah. Kah is new, I have been trying to say Kah sounding words when he says it so he can start to relate the sounds to words. He likes it...

My girl makes lots of babble - dadada, bababa, etc, and just a few words - daddy (not dada, it's most distinct), hey, duck (sounds more like dik at this stage but she's trying), and wahwah (which is mum)

My daughter says "mama and dada and baba". She knows I am mama and her father is dada and bottle is baba. She's been saying mama since 3 months old and dada she said when she was 5 months and baba she said when she was 7 months.

Lily says "Mama", but we're not sure if she says it on purpose yet. She says ,"bahbahbah" and "nang nang" not sure what that means!! She understands when we say "Mama" or "Papa". And she has been screaming for months! Her babbling is cute!

What about walking? Jaycee just learned to pull her self up to stand, but she is now letting go to see what happens.

My daughter says 'baba' 'dada' 'mama'  'kitty' and 'kaila' (our cats name)... I have a video of her saying 'come back kitty'... I had been sitting with her and she was trying to catch the kitty, who went way ahead of her... so I said playfully 'hey kitty! Come back here' and she said'come back kitty!' as clear as day... I am so glad to have it on video but haven't told many peopleas I don't thik they would believe me and when I sent the video to her grandparents I didn't tell them what was on it or give any hints because I wanted to see if it was in my mind...lol.  But having seen it they believe that is what she said too...

Lola has been saying "hi-ya!" Since 5 1/2 months old. but it's so embarrassing! She says it in a really deep voice and very loud! She was shouting it in church when she was christened! She also said " da da" or " dadadadadad" from around the same age. But no Mama! I was convinced she'd say it 1st! But no. My twins said Mama 1st. I think I drummed it into them daily. I have really worked onmit with Lola too but to no avail! I'm fairly sure that she is now saying " oh-dear" as I say it alot and she is making the right sounds and pitches etc!!!

Haha! It amazes me at how just about everyone is at the same place as me. My daughter clearly says "Mama", sometimes she even says "Mama, Baba", which means she wants her bottle. She does say "Bah, bah, bah" all the time. No "Da da" yet, but we think sometimes her "Bah bah" is her trying to say "Da da", because she looks right at him when she does it. And of course she loves to hear herself screaming too, I call it singing! She has a fake cough too! Her newest babble is "Ooof". We have no idea where she got that one from, but it is too cute!

My daughter says, "MaMa." I know it feels silly to refer yourself in 3rd person, but it helps them understand better. For instance say, " Mama is going to kiss you." They will pick up that it is you much easier this way! My daughter also loves to hear herself.

My son is 7 1/2 months old now and had been saying "mom mom" for a while, mostly when he was upset. He now clearly says "mama". He isn't saying "dada" yet but knows who "dada" is. For the last month or so, he has been saying "bah bah" every day, all day long! Oh, and like all your little ones, he loves his scream and his sarcastic laugh. He also enjoys "fake coughing".

Jesse, my little girl is doing that same thing and be warned they like to do it when they are eating, haha. My little girl is 7.5mths and she is constantly decorating me with her food when she gets excited and wants to do the blow thing. Like your little one I am getting lots of sounds and constantly saying Mama and Papa but still nothing. She just looks at me as if to say "I know what you want but I'm not going to do it ha ha"

My daughter still babbles and sometimes I catch something that sounds like words but I think it's pretty random at this stage. she likes trying out sounds so Lots of Ahs, ehs, and bahs. The week she discovered squealing was rather harrowing. Her new thing this week is blowing air between her lips rather than making sounds. I'm trying to teach her Mama and Dada and talk to her as I'm doing things. I'm pretty sure she understands the word food if nothing else.

funny how they are all making the same sounds. my son clearly knows mama, dada, nana, papa, baba, babo. Its fun and when he hears a knew one he will study you saying it, then start mouthing the sound, then he eventually starts whispering the sound, before we know it hes screaming it!!!

When Mycah is playing with Dad it sounds like he screams "Hi Dada!!" over and over again.  I'm not sure if he know's what he is saying but he only does it with dad.  He also babbles bahbahbah a lot.

My little girl seems to know who Mama and Papa are when you say it but she isn't able to say it yet. She babbles and if I wanted to I could hear one of those sounds as her saying something but I honestly think it is just baby talk. I read that they don't start putting two syllables together properly until around 8 or 9 mths so I am not worried. It's funny how I now say Mama and Papa with everything that we are doing but they say that the more vocal you are with them the quicker they develop language. They suggest singing songs and telling bubs exactly what you are doing even if it is mundane as it gives them more exposure to language.

Mine uses "mama" for me and her Dad. She says "bahbah" too but that seems random. She knows several signs that she uses, so those are the only word sounds she makes so far.
