As I've been reading all of the different posts I have enjoyed reading the names of everyone's children as they are all so pretty and creative. I thought it might be fun to start a conversation about what your baby's name is and why you decided on that particular name!

My daughter is Alayna Summer and she goes by Laynie. Originally we had decided on the name Alaura but changed our minds the month before she was born... In our baby book her name meant 'attractive and peaceful' and we thought it was a nice meaning! We also fell in love with the nickname Laynie, which I now think really suits her!.

We named our son Alexander Johnathon. Alexander because we didn't know anyone by that name. And Johnathon because that was my husband's middle name. I think it sounds like a strong name. The only problem is that Alexander was one of the most popular names the year he was born, and now we hear it everywhere!

My daughter's name is Helena, pronounced "Heh-lay-nuh." We have another girl on the way, and her name is Geneva. I also have a step-daughter whose name is Angina, pronounced "Ann-gee-nuh." But obviously I didn't name her. lol I didn't meet her until she was 4!

Mt daughter's name is Kileigh Ann, I wanted it to be spelled different & i wanted a name that began with a K because her dad's middle name begins with a K, her middle name is after my name (Lee Ann) we usually call my daugter Ki or Ki Ki & my son's name is Karson Joel, I of course had to find another name with a K, I know most people spell Karson with a C but I wanted to be different lol and his middle name is after his dad, usually his nickname is bub or Kar

My daughter's name is Jacinta Grace. We didn't want to know the sex of the baby before she was born so I chose lots of names and read them aloud to my husband, when I read Jacinta he told me that was his grandmother's name so I stopped reading any more girls names and told him that was the name. Jacinta means hyacinth in Spanish. He was really happy that I choose a name from his family.
We chose Grace because it sounds elegant and graceful. We were debating boys names until the day Jacinta was born so thank goodness we had a girl!
We wanted a name that would suit a child or adult and tested names with her surname and also went through what nicknames a child could get from their name.

My daughters name is Madison Alexis. We thought the name Madison sounded smart and intellectual. And Alexis is her middle name because it was a name both her father and I really liked.

In highschool I was set on naming my first child Togopy Joshua (thank god I grew up a few years before having my first child and that she was a girl!)

My oldest daughter is named Madeline Rose and is called Maddie. My husband and I just liked the name. She's very much a Maddie-- very spunky and feisty.

My July 08 baby is named Mollie Elizabeth. A few months before I got pregnant, a good friend of my husband's passed away from a brain tumor. She was a midwife and worked extensively with Planned Parenthood to provide good care to poor mothers and babies. She and her husband had been hoping to start a family of their own, but then she was diagnosed with brain cancer and it never happened. It seemed a fitting tribute to name our daughter after someone who devoted her life to the well being of mothers and their babies.

I know it's silly but I had picked out the names I wanted for my kids since middle school. I wanted two girls and I wanted my first daughter to be named Kristina possibly middle name leigh. And my second daughter to be named Ayla, the name of my favorite literary character. It means Oak tree.

Well my husband hated those names and he came home one night and handed me apiece of paper that said Brianna Kylie or Myah Kylie. So I said are you crazy? Kylie is not a middle name! So we named her Kylie which I later found out is becoming so popular. (grrr) It took us forever to come up with her middle name, so we ended up naming her after my husbands G-ma. Anne. I hate it. I wonder if I'll get my way next time. Probably not. We never even discussed boys names. For the next one I might go with Myah but not spelled that way. Maya as it should be!

I am very traditional when it comes to names. I didn't want to venture too far out to have a name that was so unique that no one would know how to pronounce it or spell it. My son's name is Adam Christian. My husbands name is Adam so we gave him his papa's name. We chose a different middle name for him, however. I always loved the name Christian because it sounds so strong and manly. Also, being a Christian family, I thought it was representative of that. We now call him by his middle name to avoid confusion around the house.
Our girl due in February will be named Olivia Faith. My husband and I could never quite agree on a girls name and at one point he suggested Olivia and I thought it was a great name. Over the course of my teenage years I went through so many phases of names that I wanted for my kids, and Olivia at one point was one of them. I wanted her middle name to be Faith, because in my life I have learned that faith is one of the most important things to have. Because of faith, my kids are in my life.

Hi

I have 3 kids and we never found out the sex before they were born so we had 6 names picked.

DS is Oran Liam would have been Toni Katherine.

I got Oran's name from a baby name book 6 weeks before he was born and I just loved it. Liam is his Godfather's name. I had a brother who only lived for 10 days and I never met him and his middle name was Anthony so Toni was for him and Katherine was for my great grand aunt who I just loved.

DD is Stephanie Catherine would have been Shaun Hughie

We were convinced that we were having a boy so we didn't have a name picked for a girl so when she came along I decided to call her after her Daddy, Stephen, and Catherine again for the great, grand aunt who died 15mths before Stephanie was born and I discovered I'd always spelt her name wrong and by good luck her godmother is also Catherine.

My FIL is John so therefore Shaun and Hughie would have been for her godfather.

DD is Eden Andrea would have been John Iosaf

I got Eden's name from a magazine about 2mth before she was born, I started picking names the day I found out I was pregnant but just couldn't find the perfect one and I seen Marcia Cross in magazine one day with her daughters and I just loved the name. Dh wanted to name her Andrea, his middle name is Andrew after his granda so thats her middle name.

John again would have been for my FIL and Iosaf is an Irish version of Joseph and that is for my other brother who is also unfortunately dead and his middle name is Joseph and he was my godfather. He died when he was 20 and I was only 2 & half.

well i have read through all the post do far and i think that all the names are great. it is cool that everyone havs come up with such original names and some have passed on names from their families. we named our little girl Paige Phynix i really wanted Pipper but her dad did not like it (i love charmed) so i thought of Paige and he liked that name and we both liked phynix when i came up with it. he is really into the whole mid evil dragons and castles and things so that name just fit right into his rhelm. i love her name and she is the best thing that has ever happened to me. i know some people don't like her name but we did and that was all that was important to us!!!!

My daughter's name is Zaynah Faith. I wanted a unique name for my baby since my name is Danica which is becoming more common but is still a unique name. Going thru the baby book: I picked out all the names I liked and then crossed off the names that didn't mean anything. Zaynah means Beautiful and she certainly is. I choose her middle name Faith since I knew I would need alot of Faith raising her on my own and would need a reminder. I had her name choose in my first month of pregnancy. Deklan Michael was my boy name I had picked just in case... Deklan means Man of Prayer and Michael is my dad's name. At first my family teased they would call her Zany which I hated. To this day no one has called her Zany. :) ZayZay is her nickname given by her 1yr older cousin ( they actually share a birthday- Just a year apart). And Zayzay is just cute sounding.

I have a little girl named Penelope Ann. I loved that name ever since I was a little girl. It's fun to say. We call her Penny mostly and sometimes Pippy or Pen-Pen for nn. I think it's a great classic name (the weaver) and it's from Homer's The Odyssey. We get nothing but compliments on her name. I am so very happy with it and have yet to meet another baby with that name.

Rhya grace is my daughters name..

I wrote short stories in h.s and the main character was Riaya, so my husband and i changed the spelling to the japanese version which means " warrior princess" ( the other spelling i think was spanish)

and her middle name just kinda came to me, we were debating over it and i had a dream where i saw her initials R.G.D so we picked our favorite G-name.

she def looks like a rhya, i dont think any other name would have suited her better!

My baby girl is Grace Rose.

We didn't know whether we were having a boy or girl (although I 'knew' I was going to have a girl). Picking a name was hard, we'd discussed so many and narrowed girls' names down to a few - Isabelle, Megan, Grace, Rose and a few others. But we said we'd wait to meet our baby before we named him/her to make sure the name suited him/her.

I wasn't very well in hospital when I had Grace, my birth was incredibly traumtic, I had to have an emergency c-section by general anaesthetic and came close to dying. I didn't wake up for a few hours after Grace was born and during this time Simon (my partner) phoned my mum and dad (who were on holiday at the time) and my mum asked Simon whether Grace was going to be a Grace Rose or Megan Isabelle. Simon said he thought she looked like a Grace Rose!

When I came round, I woke up to meet Grace - she was lay on my arm on the bed with me. It was such an incredible and overwhelming experience, to finally meet my baby who I'd already bonded with so much over the months i'd carried her. I asked Simon if we could call her Grace (not knowing that he'd already chosen her name!!)

So that's how Grace was named what she was! We chose Rose as it was my mum's middle name and Simon's Grandad's favourite flower so we thought it would be a nice middle name for her.

I've loved reading about all of your baby names! This was such a great idea!

We named our daughter Rosabelle Mary.  Rosabelle means beautiful rose.  her father wanted the name Rosa, that was his top name from the beginning and I wanted her middle name to be Mary because that is my middle name, his mother's name is Mary and my mother's name is Mary Jane.  This way we covered both sides of the family.  As for the belle part being added I didn't like the sound of Rosa Mary and I always liked any name that ended with belle.  So we compromised.  Though he only calls her Rosa.  But she will have choices as to what she would like to go by, Rosabelle, Rosa, or Belle, or even just Elle.

My little ones name is Olivia Lynn. My husband and I came up with the name shortly after we were married. Three years later we met her. We simply liked the name when we heard it. We rarely call her by her full name, it is usually Liv or Livi. Lynn is my mothers and my middle name.

If she was a boy or if we have a boy he will be Andrew Carl V. I left this decision completely up to my husband! Im not going to end the family name! He will go by Drew to save confusion!

I have three children, My oldest son is Noah, it was just a name that i loved, and i wanted a good strong biblical name. And it absolutely suits him, his middle name is my husbands first name which is Christopher.  Our second son is name is Samuel, once again we wnated a good strong biblical name, which also happens to be my husbands middle name and my father in law's first name. Our daughter is also named Olivia! I thought about doing the biblical thing once again, but i absolutely fell in love with the name Olivia and had to have it, her middle name is Calabria, derived from a regoin in Italy where my husbands family is from. We also call our daugher Liv and Livi!

I knew someone with the last name Calabria, obviously also from that region in Italy. Olivia Calabria - beautiful Italian name. I'm Italian, so I'm partial to those names, even though my daughter didn't end up with one. We were going to go with Lucia (loo-chee-a), after my great grandmother, but I'm hearing too many derivatives of that name (same spelling).

My daughter's name is Clara. We chose it because it's pretty, but not overdone. There are just so many kids with the same name these days. My first baby (3-17-05( which is 4 years old has the name Annabelle Claire but goes by the name Anna. We were going to name her Jordann Claire, but at the last minute I changed it! My second daughter who is almost 9 months (7-17-08) has the name Miley Mackenzey! Anybody guess where we got that from! Oh yes, Hannah Montana! Anna is a huge Hannah fan, and I really fell in love with the name! Mackenzey was pulled from nowhere..just had to switch up the spelling a little bit!

Now if/when we have our next child, if its a boy, his name will be Charlie Michael and if its a girl, her name will be Charlie Adisyn. My grandfathers name was Charlie and we were very close and he passed last May from a battle with cancer!

Very interesting reading through all of these to see what other people have chosen!

Oh by the way..Miley means Smiley...and she is one very happy "smiley" baby!

I am a single mom and had the hardest time deciding upon a name! I didn't have to worry about picking a name that my spouse had to like but there were so many names that I liked! Once I found out that I was having ha girl, I narrowed it down to two names: Emmalea Ruthanne or Elizabeth Leanne. I ended up using Elizabeth Leanne. Elizabeth was my great-grandmother's middle name (Mary Elizabeth). Her middle name is a combination of my mother's name, Lea, and a favorite cousin, Anne. My mother has 5 granddaughters and I just thought it would be nice to use her name (my daughter is the youngest of the 5 and none of my siblings had used family names!) My mother wanted to call her Lizzy - however, when my niece (Laken Riley) - who is 21 months older than my daughter - would say the Lizzy it came out Libbie and it just stuck! Now everyone calls her Libbie - and it just fits her to a T!

So I told him that we would have to give her his moms as well other wise she would get her fellings hurt. The he wanted to honor my family and bak ground so the hamed part. Funny thing is it took us 3 days to pick out a girls name and only a few seconds for a boys. If we had a boy it would have been Gabriel Mohamed Hamed. My daughter is Penelope Lyla. Penelope came up when I was pregnant. It just fit and we both loved it. I just do not like Penny. Everyone seems to want to shorten her name. I like Penelope, because it works for any age. We do not wnat her called Penny, because it might stick and then she would have a little girl's name. If she decided to go by Penny, then that is fine. We just do not want other people deciding this for her. Anybody else have this problem with nicknames? Lyla was my grandma's name.

My daughters name is Hannah Calypso. My husband's choice, we liked the name Hannah because it had a nice meaning 'Grace' and the middle name Calypso because it was that little bit different and my Hubby is fond of Greek mythology. Calypso was the goddess who waylaid Odysseus for 7 years and the meaning is 'she who hides'. We loved how the names sounded together so it was decided.

My daughter's name is Kadence Zoe Denise ... Everyone was convinced we were having a boy, so I really never even thought about girl names. One night at a get together I joked that if it was a girl I would name her Cadence, meaning "drum song" which I love.. When we found out she was a she, it just stuck. Together her two names mean rythemic flow of life, which i love.. Denise is my mom's middle name so I had to fit that in somewhere :)

I am so glad to see that there are so many other people who chose more than a first and middle name for their little ones! I had nightmares of my little one getting ion trouble in school because she had too many names to learn to spell them all!!

A quick question though, has anyone changed what they call their little one drastically? I have always called her Kadence, but recently she has stopped replying to that every time, but always answering to Zoe.. Is that normal? My mom is convinced if I let her change it it'll cause identity problems & I'm convinced if I don't it may do the same.. Am I over analizing or is it possible??

Well, we narrowed down the names to Top 3 of each gender then found out we were having a girl. Our daughter is McKenna Laura Rosalyn. McKenna is Scottish (like my hubby) and not overly common which is important and my husband is a teacher and hears lots of names. We almost left out the name Laura because my husband thought two middle names would make her name too long! When signing the official papers before leaving the hospital, he told me to add it ...Laura was an Aunt I was very close to who died of brain cancer when I was a teen and such a special person in my life. Rosalyn is German (for my side) and is my mom's middle name..it means beautiful rose...a fitting name for our princess :)

I had a gut feeling I was a having a boy so I didn't really pick out a girl name...I had a boy and his name is Gabriel Benjamin Pawlus. I wanted to name him after my grandfather who is passed now because he was my best friend in life but I felt like it would be a little to emotional for me to call him Ben everyday so I opted for that to be the middle name. His first name...he is named after the Archangel Gabriel. I was told by many doctors that because of health problems I had a very low almost non existent chance of conceiving, and then I was pregnant so it was very special...I am also an Art History student and love depictions of the Annunciation to Mary probably because because of my own health problems I wished for a miracle like this too. So...Gabriel was a very fitting name, Gabriel is the messenger of God! I deifnitely got the message and what a beautiful one it was :D
