Changing her diaper has become a nightmare!

Lately when ever I try to change Ava's diaper she tries to roll over onto her stomache! She actually gets there a lot of times especially when I change her on the living room floor. When I try to flip her back it becomes a fight! I've tried the moblie on her changing table (not interseted) and I've tried giving her a toy to hold (throws it). This really becomes an issue when she has a poop diaper! Thankfully she doesn't crawl yet or I would really be in trouble. Just wondering if any one else was having this problem!

I have this same problem 20 times a day! I have found giving her a diaper will keep her in place long enough for me to wipe her bum! Another thing I do, which may sound mean!, is when I lay her down on the floor between my legs, I put one of my legs on top of her tummy, not hard, but she knows then she can't move! Its a daily battle and I am up for some ideas too on how to keep them still!

Ava has been much better now that I give her a different toy each time. She still has her moments but it's not as bad as it once was :)

I try to distract him by singing songs with silly actions (minus my hands), and giving him something interesting to hold (like his nappy cream), kissing or tickling his tummy every ten seconds or so. And I make sure I work fast at getting his nappy done. I still end up with poo on the change mat sometimes but it is usually minus the tantrums!

my son has been doing this as well -- he's playing really, cause he all the sudden gets this huge smile on his face and just flips...and then he tries to "run" away or sits up immediately -- if I remember right, I think my first son did this too...its just something that they do, it's basically one way that they are trying to play with you cause up until now...you have been playing with them -- now they are figuring out that there are things that they can do to initiate fun time...or at least what they think is fun time...usually all they think is fun time makes other things increasingly hard -- what usually works with me is to flip him back over and sternly tell him no...make sure he realizes its not play time, and i give him something that i know for sure will always keep him occupied long enough to do the diaper change -- also...if this is something that they are starting to do, and you usually do the changing on a changing table, i would recommend doing changing on the floor...just for ease of mind that if they decide to quickly flip and you are in the wrong position to catch them, they don't flip right off of the table, those straps aren't steel after all ---

My son does this all the time... he can put up quite a fight. Sometimes singing or toys distract him. Sometimes they don't! My mom (mother of 4) showed me a trick... change her/him on the floor and put your knee over their tummy. Don't use any weight or pressure!!! It works just a little better than those thin straps on the changing pad.

My son has the same reaction but I try to give him something new to hold, anything that's safe for him, that helps a lot.. sometimes I turn the TV on also

My son is almost 10 months old and has also started doing this... It drives me nuts... lol but what do you expect. There has been a few times where i have to have his dad help me hold him down...lol so i can clean him up. but normally a musical toy or his mobile gets his attention....

My son is having this issue also. I keep our changing station armed with things that are new to him and that he only gets when we are changing his diaper. Try shiny things, items with different shapes round, square, diaper cream tubes, etc. Lately he is fascinated by a tube of sunscreen. It is completely sealed so I'm not worried when he inevitably puts it in his mouth. We just found out that he LOVES watching the ceiling fan go round and round. Could be the shadow, but whatever it is it helps. Good luck!

We've been having the exact same problem for about a month now. I'd love some suggestions too!

My daughter is doing this too only she is crawling now so as soon as her diaper is off she wants to crawl around naked. Most of the time tho I can give her a toy and she will play with it but not for very long.

My 2 year old is going through the same thing. I give her a book, manly to hide the face I am changing her, And talk to her about what is on the page. I look her in the face insted of at her diaper. I talk in a REALLY happy voice and it seems to work great. It destracts her from what I am doing. Be Patient!! I will stop!! :)

I've become a ninja in the art of distraction. My little guy does the same thing, so I've given him my phone or a remote control or something else he's not allowed to play with. This seems to distract him enough for me to get the job done. I sometimes even give him a sopping wet wash cloth, which seems to work too. Best of luck, I know what a pain in the arse it can be.

I'm having the same problem, My little girl twists and turns trying to roll over while I am changing her (not fun when it's poo), sometimes giggling as if she's ticklish, other times crying if the nappy change takes too long. She's just started doing it this week and it's becoming a battle.

We are having the same problem with our daughter Morgan.  So far giving her a toy has worked... for about the first minute of the diaper change.  After that it's a fight.  She rolls over and we roll her back over.  By the end of the diaper change she is usually screaming and crying.  This isn't a fun phase.  Hopefully it to will pass. I hope lol.

I actually have to use my legs to hold my son's shoulders sometimes... He can crawl, and can crawl quick. I feel really bad doing it, but i dont like having poop all over.   But once i get the new diaper on i usualy let him crawl around like he's won the battle or something before fighting with pants.

My daughter is doing this exact thing! Changing her diapers, undressing and dressing her have become such a battle. Ill be looking for advice on this as well!

My daughter is super active! She is constantly moving, I mean CONSTANTLY...and she does the same to me when I try to change her. She wants to reach out for everything. So I removed everything from nearby the changing table and gave her a toy to play with, this helped at first, but now she knows my tactic. Believe it or not what has really helped is keeping her distract with silliness. I just tell her a short story or make her laugh or something while I change her, she seems more interested in my face and mouth or laughter than rolling over. I hope this helps you out, anything is worth a try! :)

My lil guy is awful!!!!

I Have tried everything and the only thing I find that somewhat works is, before bath I let him go buck wild around the house for a bit ( we don't have carpet) I think this just gives him some free time which I think they obviously just want to be naked! For just day to day diaper changes I bring a different toy each diaper change, seems to keep him guessing plus I am singing a song while doing it... Mind you He still does what I call the Alligator Roll !!!! Amazing how strong they are, and no its not fun when they decide to flip and crawl with a poopey bum or sticky bum cream all over!!!

Good Luck!

Yeah Jayden does that to.  As soon as the diaper comes off his hand is down there, lol.  I try and take his had and say icky poo poo but It doesn't work yet, lol.  I just try and keep as many different things close by as possible too so I can keep giving him something as he throws the last toy away, hahahaha.  My son is also just starting to crawl ao I am thinking it might get worse before it gets better, lol

Well I'm glad to see I'm not alone! The poo diapers are becoming a real problem because as soon as I take the diaper down she puts her hand back there! Ughh.......guess it's just one of the many things I will have to learn to deal with LOL!

Oh my goodness  YES!!!!!  lol....Jayden started doing this about a week ago.  He isn't interested in ANYTHING either.....It becomes a huge fight and he cries like I am killing him.  it sometimes takes me like 15 min to get him back into a diaper.  He usualy only does it with a poop diaper too!  I am thinking it's because I am pretty fast at changing the pee diapers so he doesn't have time to get fidgity.

The only thing I have been able to do is use my legs and place them on either side of him but he still fights and screams.....not sure what else to do either :-(

I hate changing my baby's diaper for this very reason.  If there is another person around, I ask them to distract her.  Otherwise, it's a huge battle.  And she's been crawling and pulling up since she was just a little over 6 months old.  Toys don't work for me either.  I just keep holding her still while she screams.  I'm hoping she will eventually learn that the diaper change will go much faster when she lays still.

my daughter just turned 8 months old yesterday and she's been doing this for over a month now!!!! Again, I have similar problems where its become a 'fight' and struggle but i've just tried saying to her (not that that helps much I guess) that she needs to have her nappy changed and she can roll afterwards! I try and give her praise when she lies still for me to do it!

My daughter has been doing this for months now! She crawls now too. I usually just lay her down and let her get it out of her system before I open her diaper. I'll play peek-a-boo with her by throwing her pants over her face and I'll tickle her. She usually finds something interesting to look at or play with and I just hold her feet while I wipe her bum. I'vee found that if I put her feet up to her chest she keeps herself entertained by playing with her toes and I can still get to all her girly parts and get all the poop off. It's really funny watching my hubby try to change on our bed after bath time. She usually ends up crawling around naked for a couple minutes, lol.

My son totally does this too! when i hold his feet together he arches his back and does some kind of weird flip, when there is poop involved it's always a disaster! no advice, just letting you know you're not alone:)

I have the same problem, except mine is crawling. I just go through it when he has poop and hold his legs, he ends up all twisted and on his head, but poop doesn't end up every where. Otherwise I just let him go for a bit and get air on his bottom and I take the future blackmail pictures of him crawling around naked.LOL I don't remember my oldest doing this though so it's nice to know I'm not alone.

Since my son started the pre-crawl, he's also been doing this. He thinks it's a game and laughs and smiles everytime I roll him back over! Lol! I change him on the floor with my legs on either side of him. His newest thing is when I'm trying to change him, he'll grab ahold of my foot and try to bite my toes...so I wiggle my foot and giggle pretending that he's tickling me. This so far is the only thing that's worked for us.

My daughter was doing the same thing. With poopy diapers I would just quickly wipe her front area as best I could and wipe her bum while she was on her stomach - not an easy task but then when I was done I would just try to flip her over really fast and try to get a new diaper on. Luckily my daughter only did this for a week or 2, but i'm sure she will go through that again. Think about going through this with a 1 year old :S lol

My 8 month old has been doing this for a while... now she can crawl too LOL I'm glad I'm using disposables so I can do up one side while she's sideways then roll her back on her back to do the other side and straighten the nappy up.

My 8 month Jaycee does the same thing, but she tries and stands up. The only thing I can do to get her to lay still, is make funny faces, and tickle her,and sometimes I sign and make funny songs up.  It seems to work. I hope it helps.

I just live through the fight and make faces and sing songs to try to get through it! I find it annoying though, and very difficult because it's not like he completely understands my requests to not touch and no rolling over! The worst part is he tends to reach downwards every time...this is a huge issue with a poopy bum. I'm kinda hoping he grows out of it...right now I struggle through the changing since I like you have tried all the the little tricks and so I give up for now! I do make it a huge ordeal when we're done though, clapping and dancing hoping he'll realize I'm just as happy when it's all over with too! Good Luck :)

Mine too! I turn on music now for every diaper change and give her an extra clean diaper to play with.... for some reason she loves to play with her diapers more than with any toy I have tried to distract her with! (Not sure what I'll do once the novelty wears off!!!)

Yes, my daughter has just started doing this, too. Do you have a changing table with a strap, like on that's attached to a Pack N Play? If so, time to start strapping her in! :)

my son has recently started doin this too....mostly i just let him have a fit and keep flipping him back over but it helps to have them between your legs cuz they cant roll over as easy but other than that i havent really found a solution either :(
