Hi,

My little girl is 15 months old and must have some monkey genetic as she keeps climbing onto everything. She keeps pulling out the dining chairs and climbing onto the table to reach things we have put out of reach. I have watched her to see how she was managing it. Anyone else having climbing troubles?

Grace climbs on anything she can!!!! The sofa, our lamp table (and has knocked our lamp off several times, the table, toy boxes and more!! Its so tiring and wearing trying to explain to her that she can't do these things and that they're dangerous, she just doesn't listen no matter how many times I tell her and explain to her. She'll especially keep trying if she's after something like the tv remote, mobile phones, the house phone etc!!! Its hard work and exhausting but I'm hoping its just a phase, I try not to say no too much but sometimes I can't help but say it or shout so that she knows I mean business. It goes in one ear and out the other as if she's saying "I can hear you mummy but I'm not going to take any notice!"

If anyone has any good tips for getting their child to understand you want them to stop doing something etc please let me know, sometimes I feel I reach breaking point and just want to cry!

My son is also a climber! He climbed out of his crib around 8 or 9 months! He could climb over baby gates at 12 months. He does that climb-onto-table-using chair trick, too. He also will drag the dining room chairs to other areas of the house and use them as ladders. He climbs up shelves (fortunately they're all anchored to the wall so he can't tip them over). He loves to climb, the higher the better. He does awesome on the playground, but I wish he didn't climb so much at home, and I definitely have to keep an eye on him!

Kurisa is 1 year 4 months old ... She always climb up our aquarium and see the fish form the top and not from the front view. So tired to keep herself safe but so happy looking at her happy and smiling looking to the fish from a different angle.

Our Gracie is the same age and does the same thing with our kitchen chairs and table. I had to take our fall decorations off the table and just teach her how to get back down safely! I figure if I let her explore and get it out of her system, hopefully she'll get tired of it and stop. No luck yet! So far, it's her permanent perch.

My daughter, 16 months, climbs anything she can. It's a natural curiosity. I think the only thing we as parents can do, is to continue to protect them from danger, and redirect their attention on something else. (easier said than done) Madi has now begun to copy me when I say get down, then follows with a come and get me gesture. Oh, then laughs. We all have our hands full!

My 15 month old is part monkey as well! Just today he was trying to get on the table from the chair but the chair was pulled out too far, he fell and scraped his back, after the tears, & hugs, he was trying it again!!

yes my son is climbing onto things as well - he does the sofas easily. HAsn't pulled out a chair to do that yet but climbs onto the unit that the tv is on as well. DD has started using their little chairs we have bought for them. I dread the day they both start climbing onto things and pushing each other off. They know how to get down off things safely though which I suppose is good

YES, my daughter does the same thing! We just pull the chairs away, say no and keep at it. She even launched her self off the cement steps out front! Nice bruise from that! I need suggestions too!!!!

I think it is an age testing thing but what do you do to keep them safe.

Here is a laugh......take a look at the Thudguard Helmet.....I thought it was hilarious!

My son is also a little crafty climber. He decided to climb out of his crib at least 2 months ago and has now transitioned into a toddler bed. We have put a futon next to the bed just in case he decides to jump or climb in the middle of the night. I also see him using some of his toys as stools to get to things that he can't reach. Sometimes I wonder if he thinks about these things ahead of time.

my son is 16 mo and he climbs everything in sight that he thinks is possible. Whether it be the footboard of my bed or the kitchen chairs, or even the entertainment center. Im worried that somethings going to fall over with him on it. He has no fear whatsoever. Not only does he climb, but he also jumps. I call him my little superman. Its cute, and adorable but it really worries me sometimes. I mean, I keep a real close eye on him most of the time, but I cant always be right there because Im a stay at home mom and Im always doing things around the house. I dont know what to do, I would love to hear some suggestions to get him to stop climbing things that can hurt him.
