I am very curious to know if any other of you wonderful ladies had complicating pregnancy's???

well here goes my nightmare!!!

first of all my fiance and I met years ago split up for a while then reconnected and jumped into everything...meaning Getting pregnant after 2 months after reconnecting! Then Finding out that my fiance had Lets Say some "Left overs" From a Fling he had!!! I started off my pregnancy finding out I had Chylamidia! Wonderful hey? It was Toattaly treated early on, and fine! Then the morning sickness started OOOOO Did it start, I mean all Day every day all 39.5 weeks!!! My first ultrasound was At 19 weeks, and thats when it all hit me!!! The ultrasound Tech Was Taking forever, I mean forever!!! Over an hour, then a second tech came in after And I knew something was wrong!!! They didnt tell me anything except that my baby's Bladder Wasn't normal, and That they were reffering me to Bc Womens Hospitol, I WAS CRUSHED!!!! Not only was this my first pregnancy I was 20! Young scared and very confused!!!! No way would I ever think of abortion! So off I went to Bc Womens For further Examinations. My first ultrasound at Bc Womens Was okay they didnt really tell me much more than my baby's Bladder was Septated/ Divded... So I had to come back weekly, So they could Keep a close eye on everything! My trip to Bc Womens Took about 3 hours including a ferry and lots of traffic depending on times!! I was fine with all that And I do feel lucky in a way to get to have seen my lil man on a weekly basis!! Except that travelling was hard for me and conflicted with my fiance's and OUr relationship! and I was always Sick!!! So that went on for months then When I was 6 months pregnant I Got hospitolized for a Week With Kidney Stones! not only can they not give u the full pain killer for it but They couldnt blast them out caus eI was preganant! They ended up giving me a spinal and attempted to "hook" it out, they didnt have any success and I suppose I passed it on my own the night before! After kidney stones I was starting to dialate and they put me on bed rest, so that made everything worse!!1 I wasnt allowed to Walk, by that time they had found much more wrong with my baby including someting not right with his intestines! I was terrified! So my appts continued with NST, ultrasounds, I had an MRI done while pregnant, genetic counselling. I prety much spent my whole pregnancy at Bc Womens Hospitol! fun hey?? Well That was my pregnancy now heres the delivery!!!

I Had to stay in Vancouver for the last month of my pregnancy at my moms in Maple Ridge an hour away from the hospitol, just in case. I was emotionally prepared for the fact that My fiance may not make it for the delivery..good thing I was Prepared because he unfortunately didnt make it!! I went into labour at 11pm on july 14.2008, No ferries were running that late so my fiance was stuck till morning..No worries right first time labours take forever right??? WRONG! I Had my epidural immediately addmitted into the hospitol I was already 4.5 cm Dialated, I had no pain after that and I successfully delivered our son july 15.2008 at 6 30 am. The first ferry Wasnt untill 6 15 So that explains why my fiance wasnt there :( I don't know If I will ever get over that!! I always told myself my whole pregnancy "there are so many confusions I deserve an Easy Labour and delivery!! Well I got it! My team of 11 Were all standing and waitin for him so they could do tests/ examinations!!! my son went through an MRI, ultrasounds, 2 x-rays one up the bum and one up the penis all within the first 5 days of life. on top of the countless I.V's they tried to keep in his spider like lil veins :( I never got to have him in my hospitol room he was in the NICU for 10 days. Through all the tests they found quite a bit wrong with him! Duplicated Bladder, duplicated Bowels, and the duplicated bowels were looking obsrtucted...filing with poop!! Looking at him you would have never known, and he didnt have a care in the world anything was Wrong with him. he was the quitest baby in the NICU !!! He was allowed to feed on day 2 of life and did extremely well, he was peeing and pooing although it never seemed quite enough! They released us on day 10 and we journeyed home untill 6 weeks lttr they wanted to do follow ups! My fiance and I knew a couple Days before the appt something needed to be done, I packed myself a bag just knowing something wasnt right he would moan and groan at home and grunt like he was trying to poop, his little belly button was sticking out because his stomache was so extended! When we went for our 6 week follow up appt...they decided to keep him to perform which was supposed to be a 3 hour sugery turned into 6. 5 hours! So our 6.5 week old son had surgery! We knew he was most likely going to need a surgery in his lifetime but at 6.5 weeks old we never imagined that, I will never forget handing him off to the nurse down in surgery his lil eyes lookin at me like no mommy! After the countless minutes passed and the surgeon came to our room, he said they found a lot more than they expected including, 2 bladders, 2 small intestine, 2 appendixes, 2 bowel.... a whole lot of everything ! the surgeons and all other team members at Bc Childrens Hospitol Are AMAZING and will never be forgotten, they successfully removed everything and sent him to recovery to heal. In recovery he was expected to be in for 10-14 days. He progressed amazingly and we were out on Day 7!!!! Now Our son is 8 months old, they didnt remove a bladder he still has 2 and they both function normally! Amazing hey? sO we go for check-ups to make sure his kidneys are still doing great. Which they always are, our son is truely a miracle and a forever fighter!!! I Really enjoyed getting this all out because let me tell you its sooo stressful! I am truely sorry to everyone That has experienced anything wrong with their lil ones, and for those parents who are still in hospitol with there sick ones. Never give up hope! They are secretly stronger than us!

GOd Bless to all

Thanks Alycia. My husband had a heart murmur when he was young so she may have inherited it from him. Apparently lots of young babies have them but of course we worry. Eventhough my Pediatrician said it will likely go away in time he gave me the referral to the Cardiologist just to gain some comfort and make sure all channels of the heart are fine. May be worthwhile just going just to give yourself some extra comfort.

Like you, I like to check out the Circle of Moms discussions daily.........am right with you on the therapy sessions, haha.

Thanks for your help.

Yes he does still have it, but the doctor keeps saying it's nothing to worry about right now. Apparently heart murmurs run in my family...I never knew that until I told my dad's mom about it and she said lots of people on her side have them. It does make me nervous, but I keep an eye on it and have him checked out I think a trip to a cardiologist to be sure would probably make me feel better.

I also love circle of moms...it's like the group therapy session i actually look forward to going to ona daily basis! :D

Hi Ladies, just reading Alycia's comments and I wanted to ask does your son still have his heart murmur. My little girl was also born with a heart murmur and still has it. She is booked into the cardiologist to check it out but that isn't until April. The Pediatrician said that he doesn't believe it is anything to be concerned about but it is her little heart and as a mum of course I am worried. That's great Kara that your son is doing well. I too love the Circle of Moms as it has been great to chat with other mums going through similar things and with babies the same age.

Thank- you charmaine, and Alicia It means a lot to me that you took the time to read my story. We are through the hardest part and I am truely amazed how "normal" dare I say my son is! (wat is normal theses days right?) He is a little gassier than other babies, but never shows any pain through it other than an occasional tummy ache at night! I love the circle of moms!! thanks for your time!!! god bless

Hi Kara! Well I didn't have any problems during my pregnancy...I myself have a lot of health problems so I was definitely nervous the entire time hoping and praying nothing happened to me or my baby. My son was born with a heart murmur so we just keep an eye on it at doctor's visits.

I think you're story is one of great courage and you are very blessed and inspirational! I am so glad your son is doing good, he sounds like quite the tough little man indeed. Things can only get better now that you know you guys made it through the worst. I wish you and your family nothing but the best :D

Wow, you have certainly been through a lot. The only problem I experienced with my pregnancy was a little nausea and hypertension throughout. Because of the hypertension I ended up going into labor one month early and my daughter was born without fully developing her sucking ability. She was in the special care nursery for 2.5 weeks before she could come home and it was so hard. Not having her with me in the hospital was so hard it hurt so much I would cry, especially when you would see all the other mums with their babies. Going home was extremely hard because I couldn't take her with me for another week. Going back and forth to the hospital and touching her, we didn't want to leave. When she did come home we had a tough couple of first months but she eventually came around and now she is fine.
