My baby is 6 and 1/2 months old and has been on solids for about a month and a half. Lately though she has been constipated, she has hard little pebble like poop and has a real hard time passing it. I have tried prune juice and apple juice and feeding her just fruit but it is still an issue is there any more suggestions?

Have you tried white grape juice instead of apple juice? That has done the trick so far...and I agree with the other Mom's rice cereal is part of the problem. Hope this helps...I know it is miserable:(

My daughter had the same problem. Her pediatrician suggested 3 ounces of prune-apple juice twice a day. That did the trick. I don't dilute it.

Pedialyte has helped my son(same age). I think it is due to introducing new foods, his body is still getting used to it. just offer a few ounces of it and it helps replenish their bodies with fluids.

If all else fails, they have suppositories and enemas for babies. Be warned, though, that when you use an enema, it works pretty much the second you pull it out. I've used karo syrup (the light one) in the past, and it helps. Or, try apple, prune juice, or make their formula not so thick. Do you add formula to their cereal? I find that adding that and prunes to the cereal helps a lot.

Is your DD breast or bottle fed? It's pretty normal for babies to get some constipation when solids are introduced, although the pebble poop sounds to me like a sign that she's not getting enough liquids. Do try offering water with each meal.

I BF so even though DD3 is getting solids I'm still feeding her after every meal (and sometimes in between LOL) We've had some constipation but not pebble poo (or rabbit poo as my friend calls it)

when my ababy was constipated the doctor actually told us to use karo syrup in a bottle. Like two teaspoons. I worked sometimes, but not always, prune juice helped a little, but she mainly got diarreha, which is not good either.

I fed my little girl nothing but prunes for an entire day and it did the trick; be ready for an explosion though. You can also try infant suppositories if the prunes don't work fast enough.

I switched to oatmeal cereal and give my baby prune/apple juice combo (gerber) and that works great!

How much water are you giving her during the day? I have taught mine a sign for "thirsty" and have a sippy cup with water in constantly with us. If she reaches for it or signs for it, I let her have as much as she wants. It seems to be the only thing that keeps her movements soft-ish, if she has a day with her father, who always forgets to watch for her signing, she ends up straining and passing hard movements the next day.

We actually fed our little one prunes and that worked (very well though). We actually try and feed him a few spoonfuls of prunes every night with his dinner to help him along but avoid what happened when we fed him 1/2 a container. I also found this website helpful:

Not sure what kind of cereal you are using, but I have heard that rice cereal is really hard on them and that they may have better luck with oatmeal or barley (I think this one is supposed to have more fiber I think). They also say feed them the "Ps" pears, peaches, peas, prunes, etc - those are supposed to help. Good luck!!!
