Did you have any trouble conceiving after having your IUD removed? I have had a Mirena in place since October 2008. We want to try for baby number 2 this summer. I don't know if I should have it removed now, so my cycles can become regular or if I should wait until late spring. Any experiences to share about getting pregnant after Mirena removal?

I had mirena 5 full yrs starting 2008 till Jan 2013
No periods the hole time or the nine months before when PG with first baby.
Its now going 5months post removal
And I've only had 3 cycles
I didn't get the first till
6 weeks after removal in march counted as 42day cycle last 6days
Second one was counted 40 day cycle in apirl and last short 4 days
Next was 45 day cycle in may last 5 days
I've been actively trying to concieve and no luck
I'm much more emotional now post removal
I really don't want to go a year to finally concieve
I feel like my cycles aren't overly crazy although before baby#1 & mirena I was on birth control so I'm not use to 40+ cycles
I really have yet to hear of simular stories :/
Again I didn't have cramping or bleeding after removal
It took six wks before I had a period
I've also heard so many different things like
-you do still ovulate when in mirena (own dr. Had said)
-you dnt ovulate with mirena
-the hormones in mirena cause body to not ovulate
-mirena doesn't hormones dnt block ovulation but thickens uterus so sperm can't reach eggs
I just want to no straight up what did five years do to my baby maker
I'm only 22 I want more childeren and if I had no this would stop me I would have never consider

Second one in

I was in the same boat as a lot of you. Would come here often and read stories hoping to find answers. I promised myself that I would share my story.
I got the Mirena placed in August 2013 and had it removed due to complications and lost strings on 6/25/14. Three days after removal I bleed for about 5 days and thought it was my period. I did not get another period until 8/16/14 about 6 weeks later. During that time I thought for sure I was pregnant! Had all of the symptoms but after about 10 negative test I gave up hope it was going to happen anytime soon.
Yesterday on 9/15/14 I got a positive digital reading. So, pregnant after my first real cycle and 3 months after removal. I'm over 35 and have had two major (myomectomies) fibroid removal( one)in the last year. It can and it does happen fast. Blessings and baby dust to all of you ;-)

I had mine removed in Oct 2013...still not pregnant! I am very frustrated with the hole idea here of not being able to conceive. Since the removal of the IUD I have gained over 20lbs. can't control my weight at all and acne is just out of hand. I look like I'm 16 hitting puberty. Since the removal I have had issues with cysts bursting and from December 26th 2013 till February 7th I have bled just about every day. In march I got a period for 6 days. I Usually go 7-9 days when I was not on the Mirena. I don't know what to do every time I have gotten pregnant immediately I'm only 29 so I don't see why I am having issues. I see my gyn. in April to see what else can we do. Stressed out and keeping my fingers crossed!

I got my IUD inserted in 2007 about a month after having my son. I kept it for the whole 5 years and had it removed in 2012. I have been TTC for about 15 months now with no luck. The first time I got pregnant was effortless this time I just dont know what could be wrong! I never had a period the whole 5 years on it. But when it was removed it only took about a week to return to my normal cycle and ever since then has been like clockwork comes the exact right time every time. To me it just seems like the mirena did damage that is causing me this problem of TTC..

Goodluck

R u w the same partner or a new guy Amanda? I'm w a new guy n he has low numbers. So that's y I can't get pregnant. But yeah, Ive had the iud out for almost two yrs now n my period is still all wack. Pre baby, my period was clockward, every 28 days. Now it varies from 26-31. Its annoying really.

Had my first cycle 1 month after removal and was pregnant by month 2. So I was very happy it didn't affect my fertility. I only had it in for 1 year though (it badly affected my moods).

That's what I was most worried about... I didn't have periods while I had the Mirena, and was afraid it was going to affect my fertility. It just doesn't seem natural NOT to have a period, you know? I had it removed because I went to check it and couldn't find the string, and an ultrasound revealed that it was almost all the way inside my uterus. I have only recently begun trying for another baby. My periods were regular immediately after my Mirena was removed, but ever since we stopped using condoms, my periods come a week later each month. When I was with my husband, that's exactly what happened in the few months before I conceived our first child, so I'm wondering if it's not going to be just a month or two longer before my current guy and I finally have a child together. I am really eager to have another baby, and now that my current guy wants it too, we have become even closer than we already were. I have five kids, so unless the Mirena caused issues, I'm pretty sure I'm still extremely fertile. I'm more worried about my boyfriend's fertility. He has a low sex drive.

I had mine in for a year and a half, then when I went to get it removed the doctor couldn't find the strings and I had to have it removed via hysteroscopy... I was so scared that it had done some damage and I wouldn't be able to conceive again... but it turned out it was still in place, the strings had just wrapped themselves up inside. 10 days after removal I had a normal period, and then boom- we were pregnant the next month! Getting pregnant after Mirena removal was way quicker than I expected!

I had my mirena removal in November...still not pregnant yet. We got pregnant the first month with baby number one. Definitely regretting the implant.

I got my mirena removed in august 2010 and got my positive pregnacy test in September so getting pregnant after mirena removal can happen fast! I dont remember the exact date I got mine put in but I think I had it in for a year and a half or 2 years.
