Gifts for your Baby's 1 year old Birthday

Thank you all for your comments and suggestions.
I know he will get lots of gifts, he will have lots of guests (43 kids on my list).
For his baby shower I got everything possible. I've never bought him anything except an outfit here and there because I liked it, he really didn't need anything. He got SO many diapers and wipes I only had to buy them when he was 9 months old :^D - even then there was more, but he outgrew some and I have them to friends.
With that said... I just had an idea. I think I will open a savings account for him and put some money there.

We agreed when our daughter was born that for birthdays and Chirstmas we would buy one or two bigger things and then she can get everything else from everyone else as she is the first grandchild she is very spoilt. So we have bought our daughter the fisherprice Stride and Ride Lion (its one of those trikes that they can also walk behind pushing) as she is walking and loves pushing chairs around the house. We are also getting her an outdoor play gym (one of those plastic ones with the small slide and ball pit) as she loves climbing and being outside.

For anyone who asks about what to get her we are telling them not to worry about getting her anything as many are travelling be here for her birthday and their company is all we want. But for those that are determind to gat her a gift we are suggesting bath toys, music DVD's like the wiggles or Hi5 as she loves the music and bright colours, musical instruments (like drums, maracas, a tambarine) clothes, mega blocks, a doll, and a tonka truck (her daddy really wants her to have one...lol...and she loves playing with a friends). We try and suggest a different thing to each person so she ends up with variety.

Good Luck. And can I just add that I dont think there is anything wrong with not getting your child presents for their birthday. Our daughter is our first so she doesnt have a lot of toys but I think too many children are raised to value objects over the company and love of family and friends which is why we only get her one or two gifts and tell everyone that a present isnt required. Dont feel bad for not spoiling your child.

Hi Christianne, Im a mum of 2 girls and for my first daughter we received so many presents that there was nothing we could have got her that would have differentiated us from others so we took her to a studio and had professional photos of her taken. She had a ball and we bought a nice packaged and we asked for others to contribute. This way she will treasure her photos and they will be different to your everyday toys. My 2nd daughter will be 1 next month and i have already booked the photographer and the invites went out not long ago and i have also asked them to contribute to this. Good Luck!

hi for my daughters 1st birthday were buying her a links of london bangle which will be a keepsake for when shes older although we will let her wear it on occasion. it is hard choosing a gift for the first birthday with our son we bought him a variety of toys (probably half of these was never played with!) including a ballpitt which i will say is a great idea for this age group and will last a few yrs atleast. good luck im sure he'll love whatever is choosen :-)

I am getting my son an outdoor set it's a sandbox/pool with an attached picnic table and umbrella! He has lots of stuff so that was the only thing I could think to get him something for outside. I have not been asked my his grandparents what to get him, but I told my parents perhaps something for outside at their place or a work bench thing for inside. We'll see...but I'm excited about our gift for him he will enjoy it a lot!

If people ask I am telling them outside toys, or 18 month clothes for late summer/fall. It is hot here for a long time.

The three sets of grandparents are getting her a wooden playset for the backyard, which is AWESOME!

My husband and I are making a 12 month picture frame to display at the party, and maybe getting her the "anywhere chair" from Pottery Barn. Also maybe one "larger" toy, like a push along car or something.

I am right there with you. So many people thought I was so mean for not buying my 6 month old toys for Christmas. We got her teething rings in a stocking. I understand buying something special for your baby, or something that might be good for his/her development, but this crazy world has only gotten crazier with people throwing huge bashes with tons of toys -

I was thinking of getting her an swing, the kind that goes on a tree branch. My parents have one at their house and my nephew loved it when he was Ava's age.

I was going to get my daughter a puppy - until we moved into a townhouse that does not allow pets. So, I think I am juat going to get her either an outside playhouse or a baby pool and a couple outfits. When people ask what she needs I have just been telling them outside toys or bath toys. I like buying her clothes and even though she has a TON of toys, they're mostly all "indoor toys" and she doesn't really need anything else.

I am going to get my daughter an portable DVSD player for the car. I think that we both could bennifit form it. Our family will get her the toys and clothes.

I know my boy loves balls so thinking bout getting him a bag of different sized balls tell them the sorta things that your child likes. Austin would love to be outside bu now it is getting into winter so need some winter clothes. Maybe a little ride on car or bike we will see. My friend is making him a stunning birthday cake which will be cool xox

lol Grandma & Grandpa have bought their darling grand daughter a trampoline. Spoilt!
we have bought her a little trike. Nana and Grandad will be getting her a walker I think.
Gifts for other people to get, things like board books, building blocks (plain or abc/123 printed), maxi mega bloks, boys probably wouldn't even mind a doll (dad may have issues though :)

If this is your first. Ask for exactly what you feel you need to make your baby happy. Because you can buy clothes yourself ask for toys or books and put the givers name in or on them so you can show the child from whom the gift was given.



If this is your second or third child. You probably have all the toys they need (God knows I do) and I kept every peice of clothing from my first child. So my child is getting a birthday cake. This may seem really cruel but we are not giving gifts. He's only one, and he doesn't care. When he takes an interest in something we buy it for him.



Our home has more toys then most daycares and there are only two boys to play with them all.
