Try a infants nasal aspirator (bulb syringe) worked well for all that liquid snot blocking up my infant/toddlers nasal passages. Sometimes drops come with the pharamacy aspirators for infants/toddlers to soften the blocked dry snot, so that its easier to remove.

For the record, a cold is not always something your child can fight without medication. Children have very narrow and sensitive airways and if they are irritated or swollen it can be increasingly difficult for them to breathe. My daughter has very sensitive lungs (we are quite sure she has asthma but it is difficult to diagnose at her age) and she recently had a bout of croup. She was given oral steroids at the hospital and we had to give her children's advil for nearly 5 days to keep off the fever and most importantly help with the inflammation of her airways and help her breathe. You are welcome to your views and if you choose to give your children homeopathic remedies that is your choice. But try to keep from making dogmatic posts to people whose children may or may not really need medication. Check with your doctor, folks, or your pharmacist. Far better than relying on message boards.

I actually met with my naturopath just after I vaccinated my daughter. She was supposed to go for a booster shot of the H1N1 vaccine but I didn't take her back. Also, I have decided to skip her 18 month shots. Although, if you researched it, I bet the number of injuries due to mixing medications are a lot higher that those of vaccine related injuries. Medications are very dangerous to mix, if you mix the wrong ones. Vaccinations are definately not good for your body, but the number of injuries related directly to the vaccine are rare.
Especially with a common cold? Even before my naturopath, I wouldn't give my child medication to fight it off. A cold is something that a child can fight without drugs, I dont take drugs when I have a cold, so I wouldnt give them to my daughter. I have never had to give my child any kind of medication, other than Tylenol once. And now, I know not to. Thanks for your concern

Quoting Shanna:
I wouldnt give my daughter cold medicines, perscribed or not. A humidifier and home made saline drops works just as well. I go to a Nauropathic doctor that will give me natural antibiotics, herbs, and vitamins that work well for colds and congestion, or anything else that she needs. When you go natural, you dont need to worry about mixing things. Way safer, and yoru not putting drugs into your childs body :)
I find your veiws interesting. I read a topic where you responded that you vaccinate your child. I find it contradicting that you refuse to give meds, but yet allow the toxins of a vaccinaton enter your childs body. After reading your reply to this topic, I'm wondering if the number of vaccinated injuries are greater than the number of injuries due to mixing medications? I know that almost every parents goal is to do the best thing for their children, hence this mothers concern about mixing cold medicines. Just thought I'd ask you this question since you are willing to express your views to others.

lol @ people's assumptions! If the Dr. prescribed something like J-Tan, which is an antihistamine, it is ok to give tylenol or motrin with it. You can give a dose of J-Tan and tylenol at same time, then rotate the tylenol w/motrin every 4 hrs. If the med. that was prescribed is not J-Tan, check with the nurse as to what to give. I can't give any other advice b/c I'm not sure exactly what meds you are referring to. Hope your little one feels better soon!

NO!!!!!!!!!!! How old is your baby? You are not suppose to give any over the counter cold medication to children under 6 years old! I am a nurse and completely understand why. This is how so many children die from being overdosed!! Try humidifier, and putting head of bed up with some books. They also have the vicks menthal plug ins that you can plug into the wall to help your baby breathe.

Never! Cold medicine is not approved for kids under 4. Try a humidifier, andonly use infant tylenol for a fever.
