My baby is 22lbs..anyone else have a big baby ?

My baby was 9lbs 11oz at birth and he weighs 22lbs now....he's actually lost weight, at 4 months he was up to 24 pounds. My older son was a giant baby too:P

My son was born on july 27th weighing 9p 13 and now weighs 18p 6. and has 2 meals a day plus his bottles. he is a very healthy baby boy.

My daughter was born on July 26th at 9.2 pounds and she last weighed 20.2 pounds.. .so YES... i know what you're going through and I too have the biceps to prove it! She has started eating rice cereal and just started eating carrots and I'm finding that she's eating less breast milk, however still wakes up a couple times a night for small feedings. As much as it's frustrating because of clothing reasons... we should be thankful that we have babies that have lots of chubb!! It's so adorable and we know they are healthy and eating well!!

My little man is over 20 lbs at 6 mos...he was born July 18, 2008. We always get the comments about him being a chunker. He loves to eat, and I really think he would eat anything we put in front of him. He still does 6 bottles a day (every 3 hours still) and eats some cereal for his 10 am feeding and then veggies/fruit for dinner around 6. We are trying to work to drop the number of bottles down, but I feel like it is all trial and error. You wouldn't think something like eating would feel so complicated. When you have a great thing with your little one sleeping through the night and healthy, you hate to mess with it too much.

My little man was born 4.7kg/10lbs 5.5oz (naturally no drugs!!) and at 4 months he weight 10kg (22lbs). He hasn't put on a whole lot since then, although doesn't really eat a lot either.  He seems to snack at the breast every 3-4hrs. We started baby led weaning 2 weeks ago, and I try to offer him food every day, although he is not always interested, and often doesn't consume much.  I too got "gee he's a big boy" although he has been 100% breast feed until recently. His long feed never last more than 8 mins, even at birth would only suckle for up to 20 mins.  I am not worried though, he is happy and has plenty of reserves.

My 2nd son was 23lbs at 4 mos. He was still exclusively breastfed. He also was over 9lbs at birth. He's pretty average sized now at age 5, and is on the thin side. It's funny how different they all can be. My dd who is 6 months old only weighs 16lbs and is just starting to taste solids.

Well my son was born July 15th, and was 8lbs 10.2oz and he now weighs 26 pounds, He eats morning noon and night as well and he will eat pretty much anything. My oldest son who is now 3 was the same way but he has slimmed out, there for im not really worried about it. But yes i can relate to having big babies..

wow u have all made me feel much better bayley was born on 15 july and now weighs 22lbs and is 68cm (not sure what that is inch wise) and everywhere we go people make comments like he looks 12mths old he is enormous etc etc we now joke and introduce him as our giant baby before we can get the comments.

Yes I can relate..sounds exactly like my son...he's 21 lbs now and eats like he's starving!!!!! breakfast lunch and supper....he has three babyspoons of veggies and three babyspoons of fruit at lunch and supper with a 6 oz of formula then at 7:30 pm he has an 8 oz of formula before going to sleep for the night....i think he eats more than my two yr old daughter....but he's happy and thats all that matters....

I know big baby's my son is now 22-23lbs just six months old. He is about 27 inches long. He started at 9lbs 11oz.

Isn't it funny how we call our babies big, but the average adult sizes are larger these days too. I agree with shelly those charts are way out of date now.  Plus years ago when babies were weaned early they were only eating what our babies do now at the same age.  Nice to hear we are all thinking the same and going strong. Give it up for cuddly babies, hooray x

Well My son was born the same day and he weighed in at 9lbs 10oz and now he is 21lbs eating the same way. It is very normal for large babies to eat alot. Your son is just healthy and listening to his bodies needs! :o)

How wonderful to find all of these moms with bigger babies! My daughter just had her six month check-up and was 20 lbs 5oz and 27.5 in long. Sometimes people make me feel like she is abnormally big, but hearing from all of you makes me feel much better. My doctor has said from day one not to worry, but you still wonder... I'm so glad to find moms with big kids! I think those charts are a little off base!

My son was born July 2nd, he weighs 21 lbs. He's big, but oh so cute! My girls were never very chubby, so I love all the fat. I know he will outgrow it, so I don't sweat it.

hi katherine beeby,,,,sorry its taken few days to reply.. im going to start mine on the bigger jars as well soon. the last few nights he has woken at about eleven ish then 4am for bottle but last night he woke at 1am rather than 10pm. i have to get up to take my ther son to nursery in a morning and i av to wake leven my baby up, .If i leave him to wakeupits about 8am or later when he wakes him self. I hate the broken nights and wish he would sleep through! u will av to let me know how you get on, take care xxxx sarah

Well my daughter was born July 29th and only weighed 7 lbs 5 ozs and is now 20 pounds. She eats quite a bit and we've tried adding rice cereal to her bottles to fill her up and it doesnt seem to work. She was born having seizures but that doesnt seem to have stopped her at the eating phase of being a baby! She does grab toys a bit slower than normal babies and doesnt do so well on the tummy so she'll start seeing an Occupational Therapist soon.

I feed Kristen a 6 oz bottle and then we also do the rice cereal in a bowl with fruits and veggies several times a day and I swear, if we kept feeding her she'd keep eating!!!

Just read the other part about comments from people - People always think G is at least 1 yr old. The other day this man said "momma I think you got a football player there" and I said "yeah, he's only 6 months old". His jaw dropped and he said "holy crap that's a big boy". But I'd rather have a big'n than some weenie little kid!

My son was also born July 3rd, 8lb 7oz and 21 inches long. He is now 21 lbs, and 29 inches long. He has a morning bottle (6oz always), 3 hrs later he has another bottle and half a jar of veggies & half a jar of fruit. About 4 hrs later he has another bottle. Three hrs after that he has a bottle and half a jar of a dinner (apples and chicken, etc) & half a jar of fruit. Then right before bed he has another bottle. My doc says this is great for a big baby, only give food twice a day, and try to get 30-36 oz formula. She says the formula still has the most nutrients they need until 9 mos of age.

My little guy was born July 6th and was 1month early he was 7lbs1 1/2oz. A good weight. Now he weights 20lbs so he is doing very well. He eats about 2 tbs of cereal with 2 oz of milk at 8:00 am them he has anap around 9:30 or so. Dinner is at 12:00 he eats some fruit and some veg. about 1/2 a bottle of each. Then about 1 hour later he will have 6oz of milk... (formula). Supper time is at 5:30 he will eat the same as lunch. Around 7 he is have a bottle then it's bed time abywhere between 8:30 and 9:30 every night. Our doctor tells us he is doing perfect...

My baby girl was born on July 11. She weighed 7 Ibs and 13 oz. She's currently 6 months at 19 Ibs. There is nothing wrong with a fat and healthy baby. Oh and did I mention she's already wearing 12 month size clothes? In another month, she'll be wearing toddler clothes. She's very plump. She takes after her mom :o)

My Son was also born on July 3rd and was 7lbs 7oz and now weighs 22lbs. He eats 3 meals a day with bottles in between. We give him an 8oz bottle before he goes to bed normally around 9 and he sleeps until 6 or 7. I'm sure he will stop gaining now that he is doing the army crawl and NEVER wants to sit still. He wants to check out everything he gets his eyes on! It's so much fun now though and we enjoy having a big baby!

My son was born on July 20 and weighed 10lb and 5 oz and was 57 cm now I don't realy now cause his 6 month tcheke up is next week but he should be a little bit more than 20 lbs now and he eats his cereals morning and before bed and eat solids at dinner time and supper time and I give him milk as well. He drinks around 30 oz a day plus the food... I don't know if it's to much but he is always happy and he moves alot (he's crawling and sitting and turning and already trying to get on the caoutch and everyting) so I can't see a problem. Oh and he used to get up at night so I changed the hour and amount of food but sometimes he does so I have to re-look into that sometimes I guess he's growing so fast I don't have time to ajust :)

My daughter was born July 14th and was 8lbs 3oz and now weighs 20 lbs. She only up until a couple of weeks ago drank breast milk. Now she eats one solid food meal of cereal and fruit or vegys.

My son was born July 18th and we are going for his 6 month check tomorrow. At his 4 month check he was 18lbs. I am sure he will be well over 20. Don't worry you are not the only one out there with a big boy. :) He eats breakfast and dinner with the family and bottles in between and then right before bed.

Oh yeah I relate but with my daughter. girls can be big too. She was born 2 weeks early on the first july. they said she would have been 10 lbs and 9oz if she had gone full term. She now weighs 24 lbs. I love her rolls now and the docs are not worried as she will loose it when she is moving more. She was chubby at 7 weeks and everyone made comment and some were nasty too, which uspet me and she was only being breastfed. They even call her a boy, even tho she is in pink or her blue clothes have frills.  Now if people are nasty I say with tone, yeah she only eats chocolate like me. I laugh now at the stupid people who believe this, but it shuts them up.  To top it all off my son is called a girl tho he never wears dresses or pink . He is 3 years and 41 lbs and not at all fat just heavy. My kids have strong bones I say. 

Any advice on cutting out breast feeds at night when there is another child in the house and baby screams louder and more ear splittingly that any other baby I have heard would be much appreciated. She has 3 food feeds a day and 2 breast feeds. if i increase or decrease the nights are not affected. Thanks.

A little update.. I tried 3 solid meals yesterday and last night he slept much sounder than what he has done the last few nights! So now we are on 3 solid meals and 2 bottles a day! :)

sarah jane i think our boys are the same lol , henry james wakes at 10.30 for his bottle i think its a habit more than anything because he does eat alot , im going starting him on stage 2 food this week which will give him a little more food as the jars are bigger and then hopefully i can get him out of the habit and going straight thru , i do have to go in at least once a night normally between 3-5 to pop his dummy in but other than that he wakes between 7-9am what time does your son get u up ? x

Hi Nicole, I have a girl and she was 9lbs 8 oz when she was born and now weighs 21 lbs and she was born on July 18th. I am right there with you!! She is an eater and has been from the start!! She eats about every 3-4 hours , pluys baby food and ceral in her night bottle! Our doctor tells up she is just a healthy baby and not to be worried about her weight!

My daughter was born 7/25 and 7lbs 3oz. She now weighs over 18 pounds... probably closer to 19 pounds, which is more than I weighed at 12 months! She is big for a girl. i think she got her dad's genes in that department. She is proportionate for her weight and height and in the tip-top of the scale for girls. All my friends and co-workers laugh because i am a relatively slim build with this HUGE baby girl. i love it though. Keeps me motivated to work out so i can keep carrying her around! Phew! She eats quite a bit, but she was eating too much for while when she was about 3 months due to reflux. She is a serious eater and otherwise is a very low-key, but intense investigator of a baby. Since starting solids, she eats only 4 meals, 7am bottle (7 oz), 10am snack of fruit and cereal (1 pack of 2nd stage and 2 teaspoons of cereal (approx)) and doesnt want anything to drink with this meal, 2pm bottle (7 oz), and 5pm dinner which is 2 veggies and cereal and generally 4-6 oz of formula, depending on the day. I think she likes the last bottle after dinner as a wind-down tool..... she likes to feed herself her bottles. she goes to sleep at 7-8pm and wakes around 6:00 and talks to herself for about 30-45 minutes before we get her up to start all over again :) Your little boy sounds a lot like my brothers at his age.... big boys. :)

lol david was 9lbs 13.5 oz and 21 in tall at birth , july 31 , and is now 22 lbs  27 in tall . he just started solids so is only having that twice a day but he eats 7 oz about every 5-6 hours . his last one is at 630 pm  he goes to bed between 7 and 730 and he sleeps till about 4-5 am

hi,,its so wierd reading your post cos it the same as me exactly! mybaby wakes about 10 ish for bottle and i cant help wonder why though with all he has eaten all day! he usually then wakes about 1am, 2am or even 3am for another but the last 3 nights he hasnt so thats good. does your baby wake again after the 10 pm feed x

I think its adorable with 'chubby' babies (which a lot of my friends with babies Nikolas' age say too!) It will even out when she gets more active, crawling, walking etc. Nikolas eats when he is hungry, if he is not hungry, he just plays with his food, and wont eat...He smiles all the time, and is quite content...Our nurse said he is just the way he is suppose to be then, and I would say the same thing about your girl! :) I wouldnt spend a second worrying about it.. just be proud! I know I am :)

Jamie-lee, your daughter sounds like my son. At his 6 months check-up he was 69cm and 9,7 kg. He was born 14th July. He is happy and healthy as any baby. I dont take it as a bad thing at all, as long as I can see he is content, developing normally and eats when he is hungry :)

My son sleeps through, but the last few nights he has not slept well, so today we are trying with 3 solid meals a day instead of two. He gets to bed late though, never sleeps before 10, but sleeps till 7 or 8 and can go till 9 before he eats again. He stopped eating during the night over a moth ago..He gets 3 bottles a day + 2 meals (which is not much I dont think). Today we will try 3 meals and then see how many bottles he needs. He was only 6,3 lbs when born (3 1/2 weeks early), but had a very big apetite even when I was breastfeeding him (I didnt have enough milk for him and I had a lot!).

Now that they are getting bigger, they will start to move and be more active. Also, their diets change which will also have an impact on their weight. As long as the child is happy and content, fills his nappy atleast once a day, I cant see that there should be anything to worry about. Just a little bit more baby to love :)

My daughter was born on the 1st July 2008 she weighed 3.72kg and and was 52 cm at her 4 month check up she weighed 7.6kg and was 68cm she is now 10.2 kg and 72cm (there abouts) everyone that meets her says she looks 8 months...dont know whether to take it as a good or bad thing

hi ,finally someone else in the same position as me lol , henry james was born on the 2nd of july and weighed 9lbs 11oz he now weighs 22lbs 11oz so i know exactly how u feel ! he eats 5 table spoons of porridge mixed with water and then has 5oz of milk , then lunch time he has a jar of baby food mixed with 2 table spoons of home cooked veg and 5 oz of milk , for tea he has the same as lunch but with a yoghurt for afters and goes to bed at 7pm then he will wake with out fail at 10.30 on the dot for 7oz of bed time milk ! i was concerned as to how big he was as all drs or health visitors warned me about his size but i saw a peadiatrition and she sed his he is in proportion as he is really long so if anyone says anything to say he is fine ! how is your son sleeping at night ? it great to speak to someone in the same boat x x

I know! But here in Denmark we have a nurse that visits you at your home every 2nd month, and she said that he is just fine the way he is, and not to worry! He is such a happy baby, that I am not concerned at all, so the doctor can say what she wants! :) He is developing according to age as well, so....He is perfect the way he is! :)

My daughter was born July 1 and weighed 7 lbs 15 oz.  Now, at 6 1/2 months she is about 22 lbs.  She still breastfeeds every couple of hours.  She has rice cereal with a little fruit for lunch and a jar of vegetables and some fruit for dinner.  We are not concerned at all about her weight as her big brother who is almost 3 only weighs about 29 lbs and is a very picky eater.  I say "good job!"

My son is also around 22 lbs (10 kg) and my doctor actually told me that he was a bit overweight! But I am not concerned about that at all. Now he is getting to the stage where he has started moving more and being more active. He has started eating some solids which is going very well, and he has not been eating more than recommended at any time (he gets a bottle so I can actually measure this...). He is a happy, smiling, healthy little boy. As long as I can see that he is happy, thats what is important! :)

hello! My John Michael was born July 8 @ 8lbs 14 oz.  At our last dr visit, he was almost 22 lbs. He's been taking cereal in his formula since he was 2-1/2 mos. He is also 27-1/2 inches tall.  Glad to hear he's got good company!

my son was born 7lbs 7.5oz and is now 20lbs 6oz, he is 98% breast fed as he isnt really big on soilds.. he will wake for feeds through the night.. when he does eat soilds he will have about 1/3 jar at a time. and my daughter was 8lbs 4oz born and at 6 months was 16lbs 10oz but she eat everything and was crawling and standing where my son bearly moves..
