My little one wont sit in her high chair. She sometimes will eat a few bites in my lap but prefers to run around with her food. Surely we cant go on like this. I want to encourage family mealtimes but its been near impossible. Is anyone still using their high chair?

I have to say we don't have this problem because it is just not an option in our house.. Brandon has to eat his meals in his highchair, end of story.. If he didn't then we would have such a problem in restaurants with him wanting to get out of the highchair.. When he gets fussy we clean him up, put him down, and his mealtime is over.. He usually eats 2 good meals a day.. In a restaurant we ask him to sit back down and 99% of the time he does so.. The other 1% we help him by putting his feet back through the holes, then distract him with food, drink or a toy.. Good luck and just stick to your guns!! You are being stern, not being a bad mommy.. Don't set yourself up to be run over by your child on this and other future issues.

Yeah I have a 4 year old so when my 18 month old realized that her older sister doesn't sit in a high chair it was over. So I now have my 18 month old in a booster chair and she loves it because she feels like she is a big girl just like her older sister

my daughter is like this too, and like you i dont even know where to start, but in the last 3 days ive pulled her trays off her booster seat and ive been pulling the highchair right up to the table so she can eat off the table, if you have one with ajustable hieghts i suggest giving at least a try, may not work but its easy to try and wont cost you money yet to buy a booster if she does like the highchair like that.

my son was like this too, i let him sit at the table without a booster seat, and he is loving it. no matter what he is eating, he has to sit at the table

My daughter wants to sit in the chair, just like everyone else at the table. It looks funny to see her little face peeking out right at the table edge, but it is better than a screaming fit if I try to put her in the high chair.

I don't even bother trying anymore w/the highchair (18 month old). We have those little booster seats that strap onto a dining room chair for both kids, but they fight those now as well. My pediatrician reminded me that you have to choose your battles. I don't fight with them about being "strapped" in, but they do know once they get down from the chair they're done eating. My 18 month old prefers to stand in the chair and eat, so as long as she's eating and we're all together it's not a problem. My oldest is a very picky eater, so if sitting on my lap or kneeling on a chair got her to eat, then so be it :)

Because my daughter is now at daycare and they all sit at a table, she likes to sit at the table with us like a big girl. We use her booster seat. It's not very often now that we can get her into the high chair.

how old is the child . if he is under one then i would encourage a high chair or perhaps just a booster seat is needed so he is at the table with you so it looks like a chair rather than a high chair , or by him a small table and chair of his own and make it his special place. x from mum of 6 and nursery worker for 20 yrs. hope this helps
