Too early to potty train?

My daughter is almost 23 months old and she's a master at taking everything off (I've tried EVERYTHING! ) and goes pee and sometimes poop in her crib. This has been going on for about 4 months. Today was different: she pooped while I was cleaning the kitchen and I looked over and she handed me her poopy diaper. I feel like I'm going to have to start her on the potty, but I don't want to push her knowing she's still pretty young. Any thoughts?

I have 29 month B/G/G triplets, & both my girls took their diapers off while in the crib at 22 months old, we started the potty in March when they were 24 months and it went ok until may when they decided they did not want to go any more, but still take of diapers, so we have to tape then with masking tap at nap & bedtime, to have dry beds, and just keep trying the potty.... I am hoping they will start again...

My son won't sit on a potty chair, he has sat on the potty seat when put on the big toilet though. Now he will only sit on big seat, backwards. He will sit on the seat about 5x a day asking on his own. we sit him up there and he will tinkle a little, then ask for paper (since mommy uses it) on his own he has started wiping the seat and then flushing it. That's his fav. part the flushing. He'd flush it every hour if I let him. But the rule is: try to potty in order to flush. He's a far cry from trained but were getting him used to it.

hello! :D I think that's already a good sign so you could start to train her. :D My baby starts to poo at her potty trainer when she was about 18 mos old. Now, she's really an expert already! :D She will just say "Poopoo" then she will immediately rush to her potty trainer to poo or pee :D

she might be ready. Let her sit on the potty a few times and see what happens. My daughter sits on the potty all the time and loves it but hasn't quite figured out that's where her pee pee goes.

I started potty training my 23 month old about 3 months ago because we were having the same issue. She is learning but it is a process. We didn't have to push her at all. We do reward her when she uses her potty by letting her wear her Dora "diapers" training pants. She loves them. Just give her lots of positive reinforcement when you do start, knowing she is making you happy by going potty on the potty will make her want to do it more. Good luck!

My son takes himself wees on the toilet at 23 months, he started using the toilet at 21 months. Very early but he was ready and asked to (well threw a tanty outside the toilet until i put him on and he did a wee). I put him in undies the next day and he has gone in the toilet times ever since (except for a few accidents). He does still wear a nappy at night but don't bother with the expensive training pants. buy her some knickers and when she wets she will be very wet (kinda messy for a short while but they get the idea really fast!) knickers are loads cheaper and they are dry faster than in the training pants. The best way to learn is to watch you, nothing graphic just bring her along and tell her what you are doing and that wees/poos goes in the toilet. Ryan was dry 95% by 3 days and now goes out shopping/visiting people in undies.

well my son was doing the same thing and i sat him on the "big potty" and he tells me "peepee" and "ewwwy". he started all of this by himself at around 19 or 20 months so I just encouraged him to go to the potty...he has never used a potty chair on the big potty and he loves it....and here lately he refuses to lay down for a nap or night time with his diaper on...He loves wearing big boy underware....my thoughts are take her to the potty and when she potties make a big deal out of it and even if she doesn't potty still make a deal and tell her she is a "big" girl for trying to use the potty....it worked for me with all 3 of my children.....best of luck....

Sounds to me like all of your children are showing signs of wanting to try. I know my daughter is also showing these same signs, now to just do it LOL It takes time and patience.... good luck to all you moms out there with this huge next step. Let us know of anything you try that works well for each of you, any help is appreciated during this time.

Yeah my daughter has done the same thing taking off diapers at night and wetting her bed while the diaper stays dry. The difference is my daughter wants to go potty but she wants to be in the bathroom all day. It has become a game with her because I have a 7 week old and cant stay in the bathroom so when I walk away she gets off the toliet and starts running around the house so when I tell her were done she starts throwing tantrums and tells me she needs to go potty. I don't want to discourage her by telling her no but I cant have her playing in the bathroom so I am stuck on what to do with her. She has gone a couple times and has gotten a reward but its been very fustrating.

My son lets my husband and I know when he "goes" in his diaper. He hates it. Just tonight he took a nap without us knowing. He accidentally wet his bed and started screaming bloody murder that it was "icky" and he wanted "potty". About half the time he tells us he "wants potty" when he wants to go sit on the toilet and go. We didn't do anything to initiate this behavior, but we're glad he's potty training himself. If your daughter is starting to show an interest in the toilet or tearing her clothes and diaper off it might be her way of letting you know she's getting ready.

My daughter is also pulling EVERYTHING off!!! She has actually pee'd on the floor and pooped on the couch :( And the diaper was completely dry! I'm going to try potty training her.. but just like you I have no idea on how this may go.. Especially since she isn't talking real well yet...

there is a three-day potty training solution that you can look up online. I am going to do it with my 23 month old in July, a few weeks before her 2nd birthday. I have no illusions that she'll come out 100% potty trained, but I think it will move us a big step in the right direction. Good luck!

I say go for it.. She seems aware of what her body is doing.. We have had our son out of diapers for about a month now.. He has a couple of pee accidents a day on average, but much better than changing all his dirty diapers.

Thanks ladies! Makayla will tell me when she needs a diaper changed, sometimes even goes to hand me a clean one. I think I'm going to give it a try! :)

Definitely! What is the worst-case scenario.....she doesn't handle it well - you get frustrated and try it again in a few months when she's interested again. No LOSS! My son is telling me when he is poopy and he has started "playing" with the potty chair, but is too scared to sit down yet.
