weaning off the bottle

my little boy is 14 months old and he still has a bottle in the morning and at night he loves them i aint taking them off him till he is ready and is refusing them ignore what the doctor says you know your baby better than any doctor does i dont listen to them anymore

I took both my older girls off the bottle at 12 months on the nose. Threw them away and never looked back but baby #3 I decided to give it to her as long as she wants.... Well not till she is 5. She will not be on it her whole life and why not??? She drink only juice and water in sippy cup and milk only in the bottle.

why do we have to get them off the bottle?? I mean they will grow out of it eventually ... and there is not a big difference b/w the bottle and the sippy cup.. so I really dont get it..

you know its so easy for a dr to tell you no more bottles but then mom anddad go home and try and issues arise.. i say wean 1 bottle at a time and leave the most important one to be weaned last! and you know what, who really cares if your child is still on a bottle at 15mos,18mos 2yrs ect... this is your child and do as they need, as long as they dont have one hanging out of their mouth all day and sleep with one in bed, i say go ahead and give them a bottle..



now with all that said, when i had to wean my oldest off the middle of the night feeding, the dr sugested "watering" down her milk till it was a full bottle of just water.. i was very doubtfull.. guess what after 1 week of changing the ratio of milk/water till we gave her 1 bottle of all water- no more waking up for it!!!



as for the nuby sippy cups or other soft spout cups that look like a bottle- hate to say, thos are a toddler bottle- what dr means is no more milk at bed time, they now should be getting 90% of their calories from solid food, and if they still take a bottle of any kind, then they arent getting all their calories from solid foods..dont be fooled by any bottle.. its ok to make the choice as a parent to not take the advise of the dr- as well meaning as it is- mama knows best!

Good luck with this. I've bought over 25 different sippy cups from soft spouts, non-drip, the NUK ones, the NUBY ones, the no-name ones and NOTHING, my 13 month old refuses to drink anything from it. Not milk, water, juice or tea. I really dont know how to wean him :(

Try a nuby sippy cup or any sippy cups that have a really soft spout like a nipple. I gave my daughter a nuby with no handles only for bedtime, and regular hard sippies for water and juice. It was a smooth transition.
