I was just wondering if my son should be able to sit on his own by now without falling back or needing me to support him?

My son has been able to sit up on his own for long periods of time for awhile now. He's now learning how to stand on his own too. My friend's daughter is a month older and is unable to sit on her own. Every child develops at a different rate, it's just the waiting process.

Mine was 5 weeks early on 3rd July. Just before Christmas she couldnt sit without falling but now she can sit without support just fine for a long time. She cant roll at all though, so they all reach their milestones at their own pace!

Hi my daughter Sadie was sitting up alone by 5 1/2 months unassited the only thing is she throws herself back alot (I don't know maybe she thinks it's fun). So I always have to have a breast pillow behind her. And she still is unsure how to fall forward without catching herself with her arms. So a constent eye is always kept on her while she is sitting alone.

Every baby does their own thing on their own time. My little Noah can sit up on his own, but I still need to be sitting with him just incase he falls back.... probably by the time they are closer to 7-8 months is when they should be able to with out us being close by or proped around pillows

My daughter can sit for short periods of time before she falls to the side. She is getting better. My 1st daughter was 7 1/2-8 months before she could sit on her own.

My girls were born the 12th and they can sit for about 4-5 seconds, but that's it!  We were just at the doctor on Friday and she said that's normal.

I think your son is doing just right for 6-7 months. I'd say by 8-9 months he should be a pro at it!

If you have concerns, don't be afraid to ask your pediatrician, but it sounds like he's doing great!

Miles was born on the 24th of July and he can support himself for about 30-45 seconds at a time before he wobbles. I'm happy with that! :-)
