i posted back in feb 2011 my little girl was 18 months and just 20-21 pd she is now 3yrs and 3mths and is just 28pd ! she is so hardy and is tall and healthy she is doing fine :) her brother who is 1 tomorrow is 24pd so not a lot of difference between the 2 and 2 years between them. they all grow at their own pace and as long as they healthy and happy and strong thats the main thing :)

My 2nd daughter is just over 18 months and weighs only 20 pounds. She plays hard and eats well. I really thinks she burns it all as soon as she eaten!! My 1st daughter is just over 3 years old and weighs only 30 pounds. Some children are just little but I agree with you that they grow at their own pace. Healthy is most important!

i have the same problem my daughter is 18 months and 19 lbs the doctor told me to lay off the milk with her because so she eats more ive done that but it doesnt seem to work im so worried about it but the doctor keeps saying wait till shes a few months older

My daughter is 18 months and she is only 20 pounds. My doctor said the same thing. They even put her on boost for kids. They would make me feel like I was doing something wrong when it came to her gain ing weight. But I have come to realize that they cant make her gain weight. If her body wants to grow then it will. If you feel that she is eating good and is healthy then you shouldnt worry about it.

My 18 mth old weighs 28lbs and is in the 97th percentile for her age range. She eats very well considering she doesn't drink milk (still BF @ bedtime). Her dad and I are both small so I have no idea where she gets her size from!

my son is only 21 lbs at 19 months now and the dr says he is fine dont worry . he eats very well and is also very active so id just let her be she is fine as long as she is happy and healthy

hiya!! my daughter was born on july 30th, they ruined my pregnancy wiith rushes to the hospital because she was measuring small, so for some reason decided to induce me at 39 weeks and 3 days. She weighed 5lb 5oz born but was completely healthy! (also they never let my partner cut the cord or either skin to skin contact; because of her weight which was a bit upsetting!) all throughout her first year the health visitors questioned and accused me of not feeding and that she was underweight when there clearly wasnt anything wrong with her!At 18 months she weighed 20lb finally and now they say shes perfect and on target!If ive learnt anything dont listen to everything they say, some children are going to be small because of their genes.My daughter is healthy eats loads and never sits down, but most of all shes happy, so therefore so am i :)

My daughter is 19 months now but only weighs 21.5 lbs. She has a healthy appetite and seems to being doing fine as well. She is just a petite girl. She also weighed 5lb 14oz. I am not concerned as long as she keeps eating well. :) No worries we just have tiny girls :)

I have an 18 mo old boy who is 21lbs. He eats well, and is developing normally. He hits most of his milestones early. My guess is that you or your husband are small too.

My baby girl is the same way. She is also born in July...the 24th. When we took her to the WIC office...not her Dr.'s office, they said that she was below average also. But anytime we have taken her to her doctor, she just says that because she is so active, which she is, it's fine. So...I agree with Rachael. If her doctor doesn't seems to be worried about it...you should be okay. I was a little worried at first, but then I realized HOW much she runs around due to my 5 year old nephew. So...that might be another reason for you little one. If she is active...Just my 2 pennies. =)

Even my son who is 18 months old weighs 19 pounds. I am very concerned for his weight, every mom would but I guess after all I should listen to the Dr. My son weighed 3lbs 6oz when he was born 6 weeks early. He eats all fruits and vegetables. But he has to digest whatever he eats immediately. After drinking milk he will start jumping, running as if burning the extra calories lol.... my Dr says as long as he is active, meeting his milestones its ok to be lower in weight. But i can also very well understand your concern since i am also sailing in the same boat :) It especially feels bad when some stranger asks about his age and then comments ohhhh he is so tiny. All said just relax and enjoy the time with your daughter.

My daughter just turned 18 pounds and has barely hit 21 pounds. The doctor told me not to worry about it since she's consistently at about the 10th percentile of weight. I would suggest that as long as you know she's eating well and healthy with no concerns from the doctor, not to worry about it! Sometimes it's nice to be little. :)

My 18 month old weighs 25 pounds. He is a pretty average size, he's thin and a little longer but not as tall as some other babies. He weighed 21 pounds on his first birthday, so since then he has also gained 3 pounds. My son was born at 7 lbs 7 oz... sounds like she is just a small baby :) Especially if drs. say she is healthy.

My 18 mo old daughter weighed in at 19 lbs 15 oz. Born at 5 lbs 12 oz. My girl friends daughter even weighed in at less than that. We just got ourselves some tiny little peanuts. :-)

Hey! I have a July daughter too. And she is under 20 pounds. Doctor says she is healthy, just little. I also have a 13 year old son. He was a bigger baby. I think it is a girl thing. :) They are sometimes just little.

My 18-month old weighs 21 pounds. My doctor isn't terribly worried, either, because her cognitive abilities and developments are quite a bit ahead of her age. We are, however, getting x-rays of her by her doctor's recommendation. He wants to check her growth plates and make sure he's not missing something. He suspects she's just a tiny girl, but he wants to be safe. You might ask your doctor about checking your daughter's growth plates, too. Just a suggestion. :) But if your other child is small, too, my guess is it just runs in the family.

mine weighs 20 lbs...and eats like a horse! shes perfectly healthy! she is extremely smart too! she is potty training now and doing...ok. she eats by herself and talks like crazy!! she runs everywhere and just go go go!!!

hi my girlis18 months and 20-21 pds has never pu on much weight but she is healthy and developing great. it used to worry me when she was younger bu now i know thats her make-up ! she is like her dad he is tall and slim too. i wouldn't worry at all now

My son is going to be 19 months on Feb.21st and he just got weighed at the doctors. He's 30 pounds and almost 34 inches tall=) He was 8 pounds and 7 pounces when he was born.

My 18 month old daughter isn't even 13 pounds soaking wet, but I have a 7 week old son who is almost 12 pounds!! I had to take my daughter to specialists because her primary doc thought something was wrong...when I spoke to a genetics specialist, she said that hormones in children under 5 are out of whack and are trying to regulate. Each child grows at a rate that suits them...nothing to worry about!

My daughter was in the same boat as yours. She was tiny and actually fell off the charts (-1%) they finally tested her thyroid after so many other tests and come to find out she had a high tsh level. They can't be 100% sure this is why she is small but they put her on meds and she had since gained some weight. She is now in the 2% for her age (19 months) but just mention it to you pediatrician and see if that could be a possibility for low weight gain. Hope this helps.

I think its normal my daughter is tinyy as well. But my docter said she is at the age where if it was up to her she would eat marshmellos all day. Dnt worry your daughter will be fine.

My 18 month old is only 20 pounds- and also below average in height and weight :) She's petite but perfectly healthy (she arrived on her own a week early). My newborn is now 7 weeks and is trending the same as her sis now in both height and weight. As long as she is healthy and happy that's all that matters. The only challenge is finding pants that fit :)

My son is 18mths also and he only weighs 23 pounds, he is only in the 25% for his age but he is very active and eats plenty so I'm not worried at all. I enjoy him tiny, he is Mommy's little peanut :)

Mine is a tiny 22 lbs. I wouldn't worry at all. She is fine. My baby girl eats everything and anything is site, and she was breastfed. She was small when she was born, so that's probably why she is small now. Sounds to me like she will be tiny like her sister, no worries.

John is a bit small compared to the other kids his age and he is 13 kg / 28 pounds. he was small at birth 2.98kg/ 6.56 pounds. but he was born two weeks early. now he's groing well and a little faster now that he has been eating better. he's put on a little weight recently and is looking great, imo - but of course he looks great- he's my baby xx :o) although he is thinner than most kids his age. he is already a size 7 shoe and i think he will catch up to them when he is ready to.

I have two girls, born 8lbs 4oz and 8lbs 9oz. The older one will be 4 in march and just a bit over 30lbs (was 0-5% since 3mth and below chart at 9mth) met all milestones on time or early, walked at 9mth, gained weight very slowly but at a steady rate so Dr. said not to worry. My younger one is 18mth and about 21lbs, same as her big sister (0-5% since about 3mth), walked at 10mth, meeting all milestones, eats well (some days I don't know where she puts it). Both girls were breastfed exclusively for 5-6mths, #2 stole a banana right out of my hand at 5mths so I started feeding her solids early. As long as she is healthy, thriving, meeting milestones and active I would not worry (think of it as a break for you back when you have to carry her) Our dr. is not concerned, says as long as they are healthy they allowed to be small, some one has to be at the top of the charts and someone has to be at the bottom, but they are all 'normal'.

My son is almost 19 month born july 09, and he is only 20 pounds 8 ounces.He is not on the growth chart yet, He is 30 1/2 inches long. which is average. He is a healthy eater as well and very smart as well. He has only gained a ;ittle over a pound since his first bday. He weight 6 lb 13 oz and I had him at 38 weeks. His older brother on the other hand is the complete opposite. He is a big kid.

we are at 18 months, full term baby girl, weighed 7lbs 13oz at birth and weighs 20 lbs now. She is just so busy busy causing trouble that she doesn't really gain. No worries as long as they are developing in other arenas, like motor and language.

Don't worry too much about it. My little girl is also 18 months and is only 18lbs! She is healthy and lately has been eating almost non-stop! My daughter had lost about 2lbs due to her just not eating. I had to buy her Pediasure and give her vitamins. She was 4 weeks early and was 6lbs 1oz. This is the ONLY area she is behind in. She was rolling over BOTH ways at 6 weeks, crawling at 6 months, walking at 10 months..I think she will just be a petite little girl :0) I do know what you mean by worrying though. I may indulge her eating too much now trying to help her catch up! Good luck!

My boy is BIG, but he takes after his tall parents. At his 18mo check up a few weeks ago he was 27lbs 9oz and 34.5 inches tall. I have a friend who's daughter is a month older than him and weighed in at 19lbs 2oz and just 30 inches tall at her 18mo appointment. She's got a tiny momma too. Sounds like your girl is just going to be petite. As long as she's healthy, there's nothing wrong with that!

i agree with the other ladies, if the dr doesnt seem concerned then don't stress about it! as for My 18 month old daughter she weighs 25 pounds! she was born one week early and weighed 7lbs 13.2 oz! she has been in the 50% her whole life.

My daughter was 18 months on the 29th of January and is 21 lbs. The doctor says she will probably be on the smallish size but is developing just fine. I've been counting her words and she is above 160 words currently. Her physical development is on target as well. Her dad and I are both on the smallish size, but that's nothing to worry about. Right?

No worries friends! My 18 month old is tiny too. She's not even on the charts. In fact she's well below them :-) At her 18month check up she weighed 17.8 lbs. She's almost 19 months (on the 10th) and JUST broke 18 lbs Yay! She's just gotten to the point where she's fitting in 12 month sizes. I'm only 4' 11.5" and her daddy is 5'9". Celebrate her petite-ness and revile in the fact that you don't have to buy her clothes as often as most. Our little gals are some of the few that actually CAN wear out Carters lol! How fun to have a small one!

our daughter is a peanut too....she will be 19 months feb 10 and at her 18 month check up she was just shy of 21lbs. she is absolutely healthy and her doc isn't concerned by her size in the least bit. she is most likely just going to be teeny. im only 5'1" and her dad isnt a big guy either.she eats great and is very active.

If she is growing steadily and gaining, meeting milestones, energetic, etc., she is fine. My son (18 months) weighs about 22 lbs., and barely that. My 3-year-old just now weighs about 30 lbs. Both are strong and healthy and their doctor thinks they are perfectly proportional, if on the smaller side (25% for boy, 50% for girl). SOMEONE has to tiny, and someone has to be huge! Not everyone is in the middle!

My little girl is 19months, she was weighed last week and was 18lbs 2oz. She was born prem at 3lbs3oz they all come on at their own pace! my little eats soooo much im surprised she isnt 19stone haha
Ive seen so many docs and consultants and all have said the same 'as long as shes developing well and eating fine, dont worry about her weight' :) hope this helps x

My daughter is also 18 mo old.. She only ways 19 lbs... This is so funny because my little Kaylee when she was born also weighed 5lbs13oz but was born 3 weeks early.. Her dr says not to worry shes fine just going to be petite

My daughter is 18 months and only weighs 19 lbs also. She sounds just like your daughter and our dr. doesn't seem concerned. He calls her the petite little package :) I try not to get overly concerned with her weight but I do know its hard especially when you see other girls that are the same age and they look so much bigger. But as long as she is happy and the dr. isn't concerned you shouldn't lose sleep over it. :)

My son is also 18 months and is 19.7 lbs. He was 7 lbd 9 oz when born. At his 18 month check he did great and the doc had no concerns with anything. I wouldnt be worried as long as she is growing and doing great.

If you are trying to say that your daughter is within the 5th percentile then go and get a second opinion from another doctor. Trust your judgment, a mother knows when something is not right.
