So in a lil under two months my daughter will turn 1!!! I can't believe it time has passed way to quickly!
I want to have a large sweet sixteen style birthday party with a huge cake, face painting, photographer, etc. etc. etc. She is my only child and it is her 1st birthday.. I know she won't remember or really care about a huge birthday party but I want to have the best for her...
My husband on the other hand thinks we should have a small 1st birthday party with family, nothing really fancy or over the top.... his argument is that she is to young to enjoy a huge birthday and won't remember it anyways.
What is the "normal" for a 1st birthday party?????

We got one of those jumpers too and my oldest daughter loved it. We got it the evening before so she got to spend all evening in it by herself (I was in it too). She loved it!

I had a huge first birthday party for my first and plan on doing the same for Kinsley. I look at it as a way to celebrate making it through that first year, which can be difficult at times. For Katie's first birthday we invited everyone we knew, we had a cupcake theme and had 2 cakes as well as cupcakes, I had pictures of her everywhere in cute little frames, I made her a first year memory book for everyone to look at (walmart.com), and it was perfect, except for the heat (her birthday is in late August). We even grilled hot dogs, had swimming pools up, and played games. It was a blast. I'm now looking into themes for Kinsley birthday which is July 23rd. I'd say go for it girl. They only have their 1st b-day once. And, next year, you can have a small, quiet b-day for her then.

We are planning a family bbq. We are using a sesame street theme for decorations, cake, and a couple of goody bags. The bags Im getting stuff from the dollar store.

we are just planning to go to the zoo for the day ( it will be the first time) and then a family bbq at the weekend, so nothing major at all!

I agree with Johanna. My son will turn 1 year in exactly 2 months tomorrow, and we are just going to have a little birthday party with a cake, some presents, and mainly just family and some friends at the party. There will still be good pictures and everything for a small party. :]

Haha, "normal" is whatever you want it to be really! At this age, whatever you plan is really more for you than for her anyway. Like you said, they don't remember it and they don't care if they get one present or 50, and it's possible your little birthday princess may sleep through some of her festivities or be cranky and shy. Sometimes to much stimulation just makes it more stressful than fun for them at that age. You have a lot of years to give her extravagant birthday bashes. : )
