Just because a baby doesn't poop EVERY day doesn't mean they are constipated. My daughter (who is now 19 months) was not an everyday pooper, but my son ( 2 1/2 months) goes up to 3 or 4 times a day. Our Pedi told us not to worry uless its been like 3 or 4 days, then use a suppository.

I didn't get a chance to read all the other posts, so forgive me I repeat something someone else has mentioned. I have a 3 month old, and I am still breastfeeding, but I have been told by another mother that she had discovered that when she was mixing her formula she would tap the measuring scoop on the side of the can to level out the powder, thereby packing the powder in and essentially adding too much powder and not enough water to her mix. This, she realized was causing the constipation. If you are tapping the powder to level it out try using a flat edge to scrape off the excess instead.

My son is two months old and was having the same problems, he was on similac soy, and was going days without pooing. Which is sometimes normal for babies. His body got himself back on track and now he poops everyday! :D Don't worry too much unless the poop is very hard looking & if He doesn't go for over 5 or so days.

OMG! I thought I was the only one experiencing that! My son is also 2 months old and he is experiencing the same thing. He goes a couple days sometimes without pooping. I called his pediatrician, and she said that is normal sometimes. I also read that online that they can go without pooping for up to 3 or 4 days. I found that to be interesting because I have always been told that we should go everyday. Karro syrup didn't work for my son either. I have found that room temp pear juice does.

im havin the same problem my daughters 2months 2day and she is onsimilac neosure which is the highest calorie formula similiac makes cuz even tho i was full term and induced 9 days early she was 4pds 14oz 9i was 82pds when i got pregnantb and went up 51pds to 132) but she was tiny so they wanted her to gain weight fast well ive been havin the trouble since b4 her 1month check up i told her doc and he said do pair juice 1/2 and 1/2 its like if i dont do it shes constipated for days and screams bloody murder grunts crys ext... so i give her the juice and then her poops soo thin it water and she screams crys & grunts from the pain from that my doc had suggested if she get really backed up to do a rectal temp with the thermomiter and seriously thats the only way i can get her to poop which works and gives ger reliefe but her appts tomorrow shes 2months old today and if he dont change her formula ill change docs cuz its alight to do the rectal temp once in a while but im to the point where its everyday and thats not good... i also got this product called baby bliss gripe water it helps for colic gas hiccups ext and its all natural and it calms my daughter down instantly but ya id tell your doc you want to switch formula and if nessecary and juice dont work do the retal temp it works every time and it dont hurt the baby but i wouldnt recommnd doin it all the time cuz then you'll get in a possition likec me where she NEEDS the help to poop or its juice which like i said gives her extream tummy aches and extream diareah i cant win over here im crossin my figgures itll be resolved tomorrow i pray to god well good luck

I had the same trouble with my 2 month old baby boy. I only tried apple juice in his formula and it has worked laike a charm. When I started the apple juice he was only drinking 3 oz of formula every 3 hrs so I would make his bottle with 3 ozs of formula and a 1/2oz of apple juice...took a day or so but it worked great. Now he drinks 4 oz of formula and I add 1 oz of apple juice and he goes every day! I would just keep trying, I heard also to try prune juice before trying apple juice because apple juice has more natural bacteria in it. But since he is 2 months old he can have up to 4 oz of apple juice and water during the day. Try warm baths and laying him on his back and pushing his knees up to his tummy, it makes them push back a little so it helps, it also helps with gas too. Hope I could help! Good luck!

That's normal. Babies don't have to poop every day. They can go several days without a poop. Most parents are quick to blame the formula and try to "fix" it.

Before giving your baby anything other than just breast milk or formula, call the pediatrician. That's what they are there for.



BTW, I work in the medical field and we are happy when patient's call when they are concerned. We don't like it when people do it themselves, sometimes it can make the "problem" worse.



FYI babies are not constipated unless they are having a hard time going poop AND when they do go poop, the poop is hard and pallet like. Otherwise, they are not constipated. Babies have a hard time knowing which muscles to contract and which to loosen when pooping. We take pooping for granted. lol. We know which muscles are supposed to do what. =]

it is very normal 4 a breast feed baby not 2 go everyday mine could wait 5 days if he got upset by it i used 1 teaspn of brown sugar and warm boiled water within 12hrs look out

I had this problem with my 2 month old. It's normal for babies to poop as little as once every 2 days, to 10 times every day... it can vary greatly. But obviously you can tell if it's bothering them. In that case, you have to decide what the poop is like when he does poop. If its hard, he's constipated, use karo syrup. If its soft or runny, it means he's having a hard time knowing exactly what to do.. and although it sounds gross, you have to stimulate the hole, using vaseline. It really works, and gives the baby a lot of releif. hope this helped:)

have you trid givin him water i was told that if they have about 4oz of water a day in one go or an oz in between feeds it will help them to poo my little girl is on 8oz of water a day now with a little bit of juice in it an she has never had trouble pooping as she has been havein water inbetween feeds since she was 2 weeks old

My doctor had told me that all babies are different in their pooping schedules. He said that some only poop once a week, and that its completely normal. Every other day is no problem at all!

I had this same problem at first with my son. We first noticed it when I stopped breastfeeding and went to formula. We tried Karo syrup at first, that helped. But were told by his doctor that their bodies can become dependent on that so we immediately stopped giving it to him. Then we switched from liquid formula to powdered formula. Switching brands,switching types, soy vs milk based..we tried everything....then I was told that all of the "switching" was what was causing his constipation. So, we settled on Nestle Good Start formula, powder form. Since then, we haven't had any more problems. He poops 1 - 2 times a day! He just turned 9 weeks. Usually, it is all of the iron in the formula I think but I hope this helps!

After a month baby's can go daysss without pooping and not be constipated. I think that as long as there's a B.M. every 3-4 days that's fine. My son goes a day without pooping most times and he's perfectly content...aside from teething already and cutting 2 molars! Just let you're little guy be until he goes 4 days without a B.M

My son has been dealing with constipation as well... We give him about 1oz to 2 oz of diluted prune juice and that seems to work... I have had to use a suppository on him as well.. He is also on similac formula except he takes the isomil soy formula. I think babies that are on formula tend to go longer without a poo. Try the prune juice and see how he does with that...
