We are doing an Abby Cadabby birthday for my little ones 1st. We are just inviting Grandma's and Grandpa's and her aunt and uncle and god parents. We are just having it at our house with hots and hamburgers.

Andrews birthday is on the fourth of July, we would have loved to have it on that day, but its a Sunday so its on the third. I was at the dollar store and found all these cute American flag plates and napkins, so I thought; that's the theme. Its our favorite summer holiday too. They also had table covers and cute red, white and blue placemats and star trays. I bought everything they had.
My fiancée wasn't too fond of huge birthdays either, but after 5yrs he just gave up on the thought that I can through a small party. :)
I see my babies birthdays as a time to celebrate their birth, year after year. I love my babies!

We brought our little baby home on the 4th of July, so we're having a 4th of July themed party with sparklers and fireworks. I have the cutest little red white and blue outfit for her to ware. It"s perfect that it's on a weekend so most of our family will be able to make it. I love to have themed napkins and table clothes so of course I got flag themed. I'm just going to get red white a blue balloons. It's going to be a potluck BBQ, we have a BIG exstended family. I definitly think that 1st birthday parties are special and should be big, than just emiadiate family for the rest of the birthdays.

For 1st Bdays in my family we have a "small" party mainly just family and close friends occasionally a few parties (one for my family one for my husbands and another for friends depending on who can come) we always make a special small cake for the birthday boy or girl. I haven't decided what the theme will be but we have about 6 birthdays coming around the same time so the theme will be relatively unimportant. But I definitely love your theme.

Our little girl is 1 on the 5th of July. She will be having a Winnie the Pooh party. As she is our second little princess I know she wont remeber anything of it but as our big girl had a huge 1st birthday I feel we need to do something specail for our little girl. In saying that most of it is planned around what I want (or want her to have) and activites to keep our big girl and her friends from mothers group happy as our little one doesnt really have any of her own friends yet.

No matter what you do it will be special but to me your baby turning 1 is a huge step. We felt like 'we made it, we did it, we got through the first year" when our elderst turned 1. This time around I am getting a bit said that our baby is ALREADY 1.
Enjoy the party and dont worry what others say, you do what you want, there will always be someone telling you to do it another way!

im doing a bbq party for family, and invited a few mums i met with babies the same age as my son. a 1st birthday is one of those big milestones u just have to celebrate! but we havent got him a presant of anything as he really wont know! well only get him prsents when he understands about them!

Its all for the Moms!!! And you deserve it, after all you have been a mom for 1 year and that is worth a party! The first year as mom is not always easy.
I will be celebrating my sencond childs 1st birthday next month an she will be having a beautiful butterfly party, after all beeing a mom of 2 is a lot harder than beeing a mom of 1 and I NEED a party, with cake!!
Enjoy, they only turn 1 once and you only get a year or 2 to do it your way, then they will have their own ideas for their partys.
Have fun, but please do not get into debt over it, because that is not worth it!!

My baby girl is turning one on the 9th of July and i've been wanting to throw a big party for her....ofcourse technically it's not her, but me who wants a party. And i dont care wht ppl say, cuz lots of ppl have told me tht there is no point in wasting money, but i'll do wht i want, cuz she's my first child and i want to do it.

We did a big one for our sons 1st, now 3.5yrs, and looking back it was so much stress for me that now that our daughter is about to be 1 i havent even considered a big one. When Seasame Street comes on she crawls to the Tv and refuses to move till its over so i decided this was the perfect theme. I worked out who had to come, close family and friends, then looked at the numbers and decided that they could fit in the house but its easier if they dont so I picked a local park that is good with toilets, play equipment and tables with a back up of our house (since its winter in OZ). My husband thinks with the 30 ppl coming its still to big but theses are those that I want/need to come so altho yes I would have preferred it smaller agin I couldnt cut those that I hold dear. So with a theme of Sesame Street, venue picked I now just have to decide on a not to difficult cake to make and were done...

Hi, even my husband thinks it's not necessary. But we think we will have a very small & simple party. The problem I have here is that my sis & family are here till the 2nd of July and my girl's 1st b'day is on the 7th. What do you think of having a small, family get together kinda party before she leaves?
Then, on the 7th, should i invite my family again? at least both Grand parents? We have a lot of friends but just can't invite the whole lot... so worried about whom to call & whom to omit. Well, money is also a problem.

My son will be turning one on July 23 and I am so excited. I am doing his birthday decorations in sesame street. He loves Elmo and Murray. We have about 30 people invited, but there is always people who do not come. We are just cooking on the grill nothing fancy in that department. Some family members bring some food, so I guess its kinda like a potluck party. I have gotten the talk to about not spending to much money. I feel the same way as you ladies its my baby and my money. Whatever you see fit you should do. Years from now we can all look back at the wonderful memories we made with our children.

my son will be 3, 10 days b4 my daughter's 1st bday. They are having a pirate party. His half of the room will be red & black/ hers will be hot pink and black w lots of pirate costumes & decorations. We are having a big party since it is for both of them, but it will still be half the cost of our first baby's 1st birthday cuz I learned my lesson the first time. We spent a couple thousand on it and had about 75 people & kids. He wasn't even awake for most of the party and was too exhausted to play w his cake. Having a big party is still a great idea but it was def. More for us then it was him.

Hey Collette, love ur name. Go to this site called Bakerella and look up Winnie the Pooh...see if you can adapt what she did for Tigger. Or just do stuff yourself from what you find online. Print pics of Tig and put them around your space. Make fun bags from stuff you find online and put just Tig on it. If you need help feel free to contact me via PM

Hi, Nobody has really given me any bad feedback. At least not to my face. We are going to have Camerons birthday in July somewhere around the 12th, and the theme is tigger. I haven't been able to find anything "just" tigger. Everything has Winny the Pooh in it. I need help, trying to find ideas. We are having everyone out at our house, and we have a pool. So It will be fun. My mom suggested a pot luck birthday party. It sounds good. I just don't know where to find other things.

I'm doing a cupcake themed party for my little girl. We are inviting family and a few close friends. Our family is big though so the party will be huge! I'm really excited because I have a friend who is a professional photographer and has offered to take pictures at the party for free, so it will be well documented! Birthdays were never a big deal for my family growing up, I didn't have a birthday party until I was 21 and threw it myself, I do not want my daughter to go through this. I plan on starting with a big bang and then maybe waiting until she shows interest in a party for future birthdays. I believe the first birthday is for the family to celebrate, so I'm doing what makes me happy. It won't be anything fancy, but I found the perfect set of plates with cupcakes in pink and purple.

We are having a big party at my girlfriends house, there will be a pool, volleyball net, trampoline and later on that night, we are going to a firework display. We are having it at about 5 in the evening because I invited everyone to join us! I am more having the party for us but the presents and cake is for Ethan! I can't wait!! I am also making his cake myself and I am making the main dishes, also we are having a pot luck so that makes it easier on my pocketbook too!

We are throwing my son a big party with friends and family. it is a jungle/safari theme and i am super excited about it. i know he wont remember it but like someone already said it will be fun showing pictures. I feel that its more than just a party its the day he was born.. i am so proud of my baby and its a time to celebrate him and to celebrate being a family:) it will be great watching all the kids have a great time in the back yard together. I am hoping for just a really great time for everyone!!!

We are having our son christened the day before his first birthday so will be a joint cellabration.

Its a personal thing, the 1 year old wont remember it but what ever you do, big or small take lots of pictures to look back on in years to come, thats the best part...

:) Looks like I was the only one who had a boy on the 4th. My in-laws are making my son's 1st birthday a nightmare. They have invited people from out of town (which was really sweet) but didn't do it when my husband would have time off so we are cramming everyone into his evenings off then having a party the 4th late afternoon so my son can get a nap I hope. We tried to keep it small but with family-only the count is up to 20 and my friends are annoyed.

One way I did save money was to get the partyware from the Dollar Tree. Baby's 1st Birthday plates, cups, decorations, banners etc for $1 each for things we could only use one day made it very affordable for us to go all out on the cake and balloons and his 1 year pictures.

My daughter is 1 on the 4th of July! Which is exciting and way too busy for us. It is also my sisters birthday, so we are having family in from out of town and making a weekend of it. Party!!!!!! Parades, fireworks, cook out, fam pic, etc. But then a week later, after the holiday family fun has died down we are having a friends party at my house, 1st Bday themed and just games, cake, pizza and friends with setting up pack n plays and roasting marshmallows late into the night. Pray for nice weather, otherwise we're in trouble. :)

We held a big 1st birthday party for our first child (our daughter) - helium balloons, cake, lollies, a barbecue lunch. For our second child (son #1), we didn't have a party for his 1st birthday, just cake with family. We had just moved into a new house so we weren't in a position to plan a party.

We haven't discussed what we will be doing for our baby (son #2), who's first birthday is looming. We'll probably just have cake with family.

I think it's nice to celebrate the first birthday with a party - I love looking back at the photos from my daughter's party and I feel a bit sad that we don't have any first birthday party photos for our first son.

My daughter was born on the 4th of july. We plan on doing a pretty good size party for her, she may not remember it, but i will. we are actually doing it on the 3rd of july so that people will actually show up haha...doing it at a park, having a bbq, snacks, a bunch of games (possibly 23 kids)..it's going to be great...a few people told me that the dress i have for her is too dressy..but i say screw them...it's my first babies first birthday...cant wait :D

A have a load of negetive comments about not spend to much but a did it for my first so am doin it for my second.
Its up to the parents if the give there baby a party or not plus it helps celebrate a year from ur baby as born and how much u have been frew.x x x x

we have a big family so and we dont like leaving ppl out so when everyone in our family gets together you can expect it to be big no matter what. LoL luckily our daughter was born on the 4th of July so we will be celebrating that as well doing fireworks, grilling out, have a lil swim party,etc. We did put a cap on what a spending limit was tho! And since everyone is getting her toys for her bday we (the parents)are getting a customized toy chest made for her! and i will be making her bday cake myself.

yes i read that somewhere and its true they wont remember even though we did wanna make something big but now were thinking of making it at a pizza place n inviting family n just close friends. also because of money right now n moving plus my husband is getting ready to deploy a few days after her bday so just something nice n not too expensive will be just fine. her second or third will be a lot bigger n better since her dad will be here.

My boy's first b-day is less than 3wks away!! We have 4 kids invited with their parents. Right now it's going to be a BBQ/pool party in my brother's backyard. We're hoping for good weather so the kids can be outside and splash in the pool and blow bubbles. Truthfully, we don't feel the need for it to be a huge deal. Good friends and family with some good food and a few messy things for the kids to get into. It's not like he'll remember it. This birthday party is more for us I think.....and we're not over the top people.
I would say that having a really big party at this point would probably prove to be more overwhelming than fun for the child. But it's your child and your party so do what you feel is right. I know we are. :)

It's hard to believe my son will be a year on July 3rd. We're doing it big for his b'day in grandma's huge backyard. It will be a canival theme- moon bounces, face painting, popcorn, cotton candy, carnival games, the works. Food we plan to keep simple--hotdogs, hamburgers etc. Sounds like a lot for a one year old and a good chance he wont remember but that's why they have cameras- lol. Besides, his big sister and plenty of the kids invited are older so gotta keep em all happy. We are super excited!

My daughter is going to be 1 july 9th and we are throwing her a birthday party at a park! and we havent really decided on the theme but its between tinkerbell and a butterfly theme like her room! i think its great to have a 1st birthday for children, but alot of ppl dont seem to think its that important to show cuz its not a 'big event' for them, but to a mother it is a big thing! your child is growing up fast!!!!

for my son's birthday we are just having a get together at home. cookout with hamburgers and hot dogs, etc. There will probably be only about 15 people total: my sister and brother-in-law and their four kids, my parents, a family friend with her husband and their two kids, myself and my son. and i'm not even sure if the friend will show up or not (they have a history of skipping out of parties). i'm going to put up just a few winnie the pooh 1st birthday decorations. got my son a cute pooh outfit to wear for the party. and of course there will be cake and ice cream and lots of pictures and presents!

Well i am disappointed to say we wont be able to have a party for our daughter who will be 1 July 11. Our house FINALLY sold, after 2.5 months of showings and we move in 2 weeks,eeek! We will only know 2 people when we move and it's another couple who were posted to where we are going a few years ago. and it's over 3600km from where we are now and all our family:( My mom is upset because it's her first grand daughter and she wont be seeing her a lot and no shower. I'm trying convince hubby that while the packers are moving us we should have a party in our hotel for her...so we'll see i guess.
My first child though, we had 2 parties for him for his 1st. We had one for family, cause my family is pretty big and we celebrate everything! And then we had one for a few friends and their kids. I highly recommend putting a plastic disposable table cloth under the high chair. It was the BEST idea i had and much easier to clean the mess off the floor after lol.
I think what you are doing is fine. When he's old enough to understand birthday you can show him things from his first birthday and who knows maybe he'll remember something, but it is true that they don't remember a lot.
Our sons 2nd birthday was just 1 party and much more simple. I like it that way and he had a blast! Spoil them on the 1st it's a huge birthday! They are already 1!!!

For my sonsfirst birthday we privatly booked Gammondale Farm. Since he was an October baby and the farm puts on pumpkin fest every fall. It was so awesome there was about 50ppl and we had a pirate themed party(pretty convienient for having all the Halloween stuff out at the time). I made pirate cupcakes, had skull and crossbone table clothes, a treasure chest full of goodies, all of the loot bags had pirate fare and about 15 pizzas. The kids got to see all of the barn animals, go on a tractor ride, nature walk, the 'boo barn', hay swing and the most popular was to ride a clidesedale horse(with adult of course). It was HUGE! ...and so was the bill, aprox $800. When I think back on it now, I could have definitly gone smaller, but really it was just amazing. BUT now I have a summer baby girl and I feel like I should at least match the grand of her older brothers part, that is no longer in the budget, lol. So its gonna be backyard BBQ, princess birthday. I bought her a princess play castle for her bday, so im sticking with that theme. anyways, I say if you can afford it DO IT! although I will admit the the 1st bday is more for u than the wee one. way to go u made it through the 1st year! LOL

We are doing a big family party... we have a huge family so our parties are always big. Even though our 1 yr old wont remember, its still a big deal for the parents and the family. so why not party?!



Oh and we are doing a Lady bug garden party for our little lady...We will have kiddy pools and water toys for the kids to play with ( we have alot of kids in the famiy). I am going to make cupcakes for the guests and decorate them to look like lady bugs and Jaycie will of course have her own little lady bug cake. I am making origami lady bug invitations for the fam... We will be BBQing hamburgers and hotdogs...

We are doing a joint birthday party with my son and his cousin. That way, the family will all be together anyways, why not kill two birds with one stone. And we are doing a picnic theme. We are getting red and white checkered fabric and making ants out of Styrofoam balls.
And I agree with some of the other moms. Its your baby, your money, your time, your effort. Do it how you want to.

my son will be a yr old in just under a month and i havent really done much planning. because his birthday is close to my mums we are just having a lil party/get together for close family and friends down our local pub preferably because there is a beer garden with a climbing frame for the children. hoping to go for a winnie the pooh theme because my son really likes them but if i cant then i dont know wat theme.

We're getting my daughter's bday pics done this weekend. Those will be used to give family/friends at her party and for the invite/thank-you's. We're having everyone over for swimming and dinner (not sure what yet). Her bday tutu is hot pink and lime so those colors will be on her cake and everything.

I have had my son's 1st birthday planned the day i found out i was pregant with him, i started getting thing's about a month ago, it will be easier on the pcket closer to the birthday instead of going out and getting everything at once, but you can get plates and decoration's at dollarama, it'll cut cost there and you can get the food at lococo's or costco (depends on were you live. have fun planning but don't go to over board they wont remember this one
