I just started feeding my 5 months old cereals; it's going well but I would like to know how you guys do it, what are your feeding routines?

Quoting Becky:

When we started my little guy we just started him out with cereal in the morning with part of a bottle. Now that he's used to that he's now eating cereal or baby oatmeal in the AM with a bottle, and a container of veggies or fruit with a bottle for both lunch and dinner...he's a little piggy! We try to give him one fruit and one veggie a day so he doesn't get constipated from the oatmeal/cereal. He's been doing really well with the "solids" Good luck!

Thanks for posting this Becky.  I've been noticing he's been a little constipated.  I'll try incorporating one fruit and one veggie per your suggestion.

well, i started feeding my son cereal at 4 months. He liked it a lot. I just started giving him a bowl at breakfast. Then once he got the hand of it i start giving to him at lunch and dinner. Then once he mastered that i started to give him baby foods with it like applesauce, banana, pears, carrots, sweet peas etc. Once you get the hang of it u will be okay.

i did the same thing. i noticed that she controls it better when its a little chunkier. i also smushed up a little piece of banana and mixed it with the rice cereal. she really like that and it was easy to keep the little chunks in her mouth.

Well i decided not to start with cereal and start with the fruit and veggies. I started her at 4 1/2 months on bananas mixed with my milk and or formula. We went really slow like only every other day or so. When she's sick or teething i stop so she can use her energy for that instead of digesting food. Now she is almost 6 months and she is eating better. She is losing her reflex to push food out of her mouth. About the cereal, my other two kids HATED cereal and it's a processed food. So my choice not to :)

I started feeding my baby rice cereal mixed with formula once a day at 4.5 months. After his cereal, he has a bottle of breastmilk. Now, he's 21 weeks old. He takes two meals- one at lunch and one right before beddtime (around 7:30). I either give him about 1/4 cup of either rice cereal, oatmeal, or oatmeal with banana (all Gerber brand foods). Also, when I've eaten sweet potato myself, I pull out a spoonful, mash it up, and give him a taste. I'm planning on starting putting the sweet potato puree into his lunchtime cereal this week. Also, I give him diluted apple juice in the middle of the day served out of a sippy cup (1 oz water/1 oz juice). He does great with it!

At 5 months he drinks mostly Breastmilk, but gets cereal and veggies/fruit around lunchtime at the CDC(I can't wait till I get to stay home with him fulltime). Then he takes 1-1 1/2 TBS cereal and some veggies at about 7, bath, then nurse however long he wants, shooting for a bedtime of 8.

I started my bub on a couple of teaspoons of rice cereal mixed with breast milk but make sure u feed bub first otherwise he might just eat too much food at once. At the start u just want him to have a little to get his tummy used to it. Also if u are bottle feeding make sure u get him to have extra water otherwise keep up the breast feeds as often as possible as the kidneys need extra fluids to work. I now give my bub pureed fruit for lunch with a little rice cereal and breast milk added and same for dinner but with veges.

I started my 4 month old on 1 fruit puree baby food once a day. Recently, she's progressed to a bowl of rice cereal, with fruit puree mixed in, for breakfast and right before bed. It helps her sleep though the night too.

Just started this week. 1st feed is 5 oz fomula, 2nd is 1tbs rice cereal with 3 1/2 tbs formula, 3rd feed is 5oz formula, 4th feed is 5 oz formula, 5th feed is 1tbs rice cereal with 3 1/2 tbs formula and 5 oz of formula, 6th feed is 5 oz of formula. I got this guide from the Good Start Formula booklet in the mail. At first I used 1 tbs rice cereal with 4 tbs formula because that was the instructions on the box for the first feed and after a few feeds I made it a little thicker by adding less formula to the mixture. So far, So good. This routine works good for me because at 5/6 am for her first feed I am not interested in feeding her cereal...at 8/9 am I am a little more awake. At her second cereal feeding at 5/6pm, I am off work and home so I can feed her and it's a fun thing I get to do after work. I think next week I am going to try and go thicker with the cereal and add one more feed during the day....going to try and give her a little more than the 1 tbs of cereal too.

My daughter is 5 months old, we started her on cereal at 4 months but it didnt go so well. So we stopped and are now trying again. She is doing better. I usually just give it to her around our dinner time. Just a couple teaspoons mixed with breastmilk. I tried mixing it with formula, but she didnt care for it. She likes it much better mixed with breastmilk.

I started my son at 4.5 months. A few times a day I would give him baby rice cereal mixed with breast milk. A few weeks later I started to add vegetable puree to the rice cereal. So far he's tried parsnip, potato, carrot, peas and broccoli. I now feed him this 3 times a day (roughly 10am, 2pm and 6pm),between his normal milk feeds. He usually eats between 3-6 tspns at each sitting

I feed my son food just a dinner, now he usually has pureed veges instead of cereal. He has this at 7pm, then bath, breast and bed at 8pm.
