Has anyone's baby already outgrown their infant carseat?

My son is 4.5 months and is already near the 22 pound weight limit of our Graco infant carseat. He is not sitting by himself yet, but has very strong neck muscles. I'm worried that a convertible carseat would still be too upright for him. Any recommendations for a convertible carseat? Thanks!!!

We just got a convertible car seat and my son is 5 months old. He seems to like sitting up higher. We got the eddie bauer 3 in one, it is really nice. It does recline and you should be able to face him the other way soon because if his weight. The car seat reclines too. We like it thus far. Hope it helps.

My son is 5 months old and has been out of his infant carseat for almost 2 months. I bought his big boy carseat from Walmart. It is a convertible one but it also reclines in 3 different positions, so he can lay back almost as much as the infant one. It is made by safety 1st and is black in color and very affordable. I think I spent 130 on it. My son was 10lbs and 7 0z when born. He is now about 30 in long and right at 21 lbs. Hope this has been helpful.

My son is the same. He was born at 10 lbs 6 oz, and is now weighing in at 20 pounds as well and he's not even 5 mths yet! Now that winter came we couldnt strap him in the carrier seat anymore cause he's too big! We bought him a 3 in 1, its good up to 80 or 100 pounds. He hates it of course, but he's bigger than average so you do what you need to do! :)

That's true. He seems to like his. His also coverts and is good up to 80 lbs too.

my son is 5 months and weighs 21lb so we have brought him a upright seat but are yet to try it,i would suggest however that you measure him in the seat before you buy it my little man is in the 98% percent for height so his head was resting on the plastic bit on the head rest,so we switched and got a different seat

We switched DS2 out of his when he was almost 5 months and into an Evenflo Triumph Advance. We did about the same for DS1.

DS1 remained rear-facing in this seat until he was about 23 months. It's a great seat! I like the infinite harness adjust--no rethreading! DS1 still has plenty of room to grow in this seat and it's not ridiculously expensive but still looks like a "luxury" seat.

We're still fitting in ours... we bought a Graco Snugride 32 which goes up to 32 pounds, so we've still got room to grow!

my baby was out of his carrier by 5 months and couldnt sit upbyt his yet either but how the convertibles are made now they can sit up uprite wen u kick out the kick stand in the back but thats only wen u turn it to the front. until your baby reaches 35 and is one years of age (it has to be both) they have to be facing the back and the kickstand folds under keeping the sit n an incline position. i hope i helped u. tristian uses a seat by graco if im not mistaking. :-)

I have had my daughter in a First Years Trufit convertible carseat since day one. She is almost 6 months now. It has been great for us!

I purchased a Graco Snugride 32 for my baby while I was pregnant. My children tend to be on the bigger side and this carseat is made to fit the baby for a yr or more depending on their size. Up to 32 inches and 32 lbs. This was one of the best baby purchases I made and it has very high safety ratings. It is bigger then regular infant carseats and a pain to put in the shopping cart but studies prove that it is best to keep babies rear facing as long as possible even past the one yr mark if they can. I have a convertable carseat for my 4 yr old an Alpha Omega Elite and I really love it but have never used it as an infant seat. I know it would be expensive for you but I would recommend getting one of the infant carseats that are made to hold bigger babies and getting a convertible for when your baby is older for the forward facing / booster seat. Convertable carseats are just not "as safe" as an infant seat is for babies. Im sure whatever you choose will be best for your little one. Good luck.

My son will be 6 months on January 3rd, and he's 20lbs already too. He has been sitting up on his own for a month now and we just switched to a convertible car seat yesterday, but I think he prefers the incline of his infant seat, because he almost always falls asleep in the car and in his new seat his head falls forward in an uncomfortable position unless I help hold it or prop it. His new seat can also be laid down for infants though, so I'm going to see if that works better for him.

My daughter Emma is about there at 5 months. She looks really uncomfotable in it width wise and her feet almost hang off the end. She isn't there based on recommened weight, but I don't think we can wait much more to change her over to the next size. They make some transitional ones. The one we got goes up to 80 pounds, but can be rear facing then can be changed to forward facing when she is older.

Yes, we are in the exact situation! Our guy just turned 5 months old and weighs a whopping 20 llbs. Our pediatrician, as well as many other parents we have spoke with, recommended our son not sit for more than 15-30 minutes in any upright device, until he can sit-up on his own, because it can stunt/hinder spinal development. Since he is on the verge of outgrowing his 22 lb. car seat we have decided to purchase the new infant Graco that goes up to 35 lbs. We will then switch to a rear-facing convertible car seat when he can sit up on his own. This feels like the best option for our family ... I hope that helps!

My son will be 6 months on Jan 17th. He was out of his infant carseat at two months. He's at the 75% for his age in both ways. He weighed in at 16 lbs and 25.5 inches last visit. He outgrew it in leangth. We had a new one for him already, considering he was a month early.

Yes, our boy who will be 6 months on January 9th is almost too tall for his Chicco Keyfit car seat so I went to BabiesRUs over the weekend and spoke to someone there. After much research I bought the new Safety 1st Complete Air Convertible Car Seat by McKenna. It has one the highest safety ratings of any. The reviews on BabiesRUs website are not great, a lot of people complaining the car seat doesn't fit in their car rear facing and is too difficult to install. We took ours to the local fire department and they installed it into our 2009 Honda Civic Hybrid with no trouble, it sits in the middle of the back seat rear facing, and there is room either side for passengers. The firefighter said it was the best car seat he had seen. Our boy seems to like it, it is quite upright but he still falls asleep quite often, but is also happy looking out of the window or at himself in the mirror.
