I just took my little girl to the Doctor the other day. She dropped a pound down to 14 pounds putting her in the 25% for weight. She is also 27 in. long putting her in the 90% for her height, and 10% for her head size. Does anyone think that I should be concerned about her weight dropping?

My boy did the same thing at his 6 month check up and has almost the same percentiles as your little one. I was horrified to find out he had lost weight since he had been gaining so well the first 6 months. Turns out his doctor didn't even flinch when I mentioned it. I looked back at my husbands baby book (his mother gave it to me) and they are almost exactly the same as his. I wouldn't worry.

I wouldnt be to concerned unless she keeps losing weight. Try getting on of those mess snack things for her to chew on maybe she would like some of what you are eating fresh fruit and veggies. Also if she is teething it may bother her gums eating from a spoon.

Is she just not eating as much or more bowel movements? Was your doctor concerned? I took my son in just over a week ago and he is 18lbs, 27.5 inches long and his head cir. was 17.8.

It's normal for them to slow down around now. My daughter was 15.9lbs & 26.75" at her 6 months check. She's been close to 95%tile in weight since birth until this check up but the dr says she's perfectly fine. If your Dr isn't concerned I wouldn't be either. She may just be tall and thin.

My son just had his 6 month check up on the 2nd and he is 28.5 inches and 22lbs, the doc says he is the size of an average one year old. Shes not concerned about his size as he continues to grow in proportion at every check up, even though he is now off the charts. Every baby is different and as long as they seem healthy and happy to you, they are probably ok. Any concerns should be directed to your pediatrician to assist you in putting your mind at ease and helping you to enjoy your little one more and stress out less

Don't worry unless the doctor says anything about it, my daughter is 27 inches, and about 16 lbs, and 7 months old, shes wearing 12 month clothes because of her height but as long as YOU know your feeding your baby adequitly then your fine.

My daughter is same way. she weights only 14 pounds and is 29 inches long and just turned 7 months. The doctor says that she will just be long and petite. Does tall skinny people run in your family?? I wouldnt worry about her weight... if she is eattiing and drinking then there is no reason to be concerned.

My son is 26 inches long and 15 pounds., and 6 1/2 months old. My doctor is very happy on how he is progressing. He said that Nicholas is very tall for his age, and lean. But his Daddy has the same build, so my doctor isn't concerned. Nicholas eats somewheres around 5-6 bottles a day, gets veggies once a day, pablum once a day, and is nursed at night/morning.

My son's growth has slowed down quite a bit too. He is 6 1/2 months old, he weighs 19 pounds and is 30+" long...(he was born big). The doctor told me that he is in the 97% for height and only the 75% for weight. He is eating several bottles a day and eats solids 3-4 times a day. The doctor told us that he's normal, so I'm not too concerned. Any 6 month old baby that needs to wear 12 month sized clothes can't be having too many growth problems!

Was your doctor concerned? My little guy is 6 1/2 months and is 15lbs13oz and 26.5" which puts him in the 5-9th percentile for weight and 25th for length....but the doctor wasnt concerned for him. I'd really just check with the doctor...some babies are just meant to be little

I was having the exact same concerns for my daughter! She just turned 6 months on Sunday and I weighed her and she had *maybe* gained 1/2 lb since her 4 month checkup. She is definitely getting longer though and she is also an extremely active baby. I think a lot of babies can slow down in their weight gain around this time because they become so physically active. A couple of my friends suggested giving her alvacados and yams as a way to help boost her calorie intake (she's not too good at eating solids yet though). I'll be taking her to the doctor tomorrow for her 6 month checkup and hopefully the doctor can provide some more insight :-) .

If it was me, which it isent, I would talk to your dr about a 22 calorie food. its easy to make. I have to do this for my son who has major weight gaining problems. but if you feel like its not a problem and you child is still ganning the weight then i wouldn't worry about it.

my little girl is almost 6 months and she only weighs about 13 lbs (about 10th percentile) but she has reflux which is now better controlled, and she has hit that active stage of supported sitting, wriggling all over the crib/play mat etc. you are a mom, trust those instincts, because generations of moms did not have those charts and we are all still here right?

I agree with everyone pretty much. My son is only in the 3rd percentile at his checkup last week. but like Carley said those charts are only for US babies that are fomula fed and my son is not. he is 15 lbs 4 oz and 6 and half mos old. perfectly healthy lil man. also, I am only 5 feet tall and his daddy is 5'10 so he prob wont be very big anyways!

I dont think you need to worry unless she has lost weight. Like last month she weighed 15lbs and this month she is down to 14. The percentages on those charts are from the average growth of all formula fed babies in the US only. So that just means that you baby doesnt grow at the same rate as those babies. Which is not a problem at all. My daughter is 28in and only 15 lbs. She isnt even on the chart for weight and is like 80% for height, but she is perfectly healthy and fine.

So I wouldnt worry about her percentage drop, shes just in between growth spurts and doesnt fit in on the charts right. You cant always go by those charts though, i personally never do :)

I wouldn't be concerned unless it continues. Just keep a close eye on it and keep offering jar food and cereal as much as possible. My lil girl just hit 14lbs and is only 24.5", dr said she's a very petite baby in the low 25%, just as long as they are healthy thats what the drs care about!

Jessica - posted on 01/26/2010

I would not be. My daughter is the same way, she is 27in. & 16lb putting her total in the 25-50% and I asked the dr/nurse if that was an issue and they told me that is was not because of her being so tall.

My little one has moved off the 50% to the 25%...I think its just because they have hit a more active stage and are ready for more food, I'm also having a bit of trouble with solids but as long as you keep up the milk, breast or bottle, they should be getting enough nutrition. Food at this age is more for experience than anything else. And with all the percentages and averages they have for babies, you really shouldn't pay too much attention because all babies are different and grow at different rates. Our little ones might just be saving up for a big growth spurt later on. As long as you think she looks healthy and happy I wouldn't worry too much. just think they've gone from just lying around eating and sleeping to rolling and wriggling all over the place! I'd lose weight too!

Well the Doctor at first was a little iffy but then she said not to really worry about it to much... I am feeding her solids but she really is not all that interested in them.. I dont want to force her so I get it in whenever I can. She is alot more active than she used to be so I am thinking that she has a very fast metabolism...

Is the Dr concerned? That would be what I would want to know. If they aren't I wouldn't, she could be having a growth spurt.

I would probably be a little concerned, but maybe she's just moving around a lot more. At this age she should be gaining weight still. Did the Dr. say anything about her weight loss? Have you started feeding her solids?
