How many mums have started tap water with formula?

I only give my daughter distilled water. The chlorine is not really good for you and their are no studies that ingesting fluoride actually helps teeth, but it can have negative effects on their bodies. My girl has 4 teeth and they are beautiful.

We have used tap water since we started giving our 1 year old formula bottles at about 6 months. Our pediatrician said it was perfectly fine and our water is great here in Colorado so we see no problem with it. Probably depends on where you live and what the quality of your tap water is.

I'm in the US (CA) & have used tap water for both of my boys' formula with the doc's OK. Only time I avoid it is when I'm at the in-laws and they have a well - that's probably ok too, but I use bottled then just in case. :)

What about Greece... Thessaloniki? does someone have any experience on our tap water here? we are 11 months and still sterillise everything!! im a bit of a worried mom!!

I personally won't use tap water for quite a while. Fluoride is great for teeth, but promotes bone mottling. Chlorine inhibits the uptake of iodine which is essential. Our water is filtered into the house.

I live in the US in the country, we had well water and was advised by our pediatrician to just use the Brita and he would be fine. He love straight water from the Brita. I should also mention that our well water is amazing though!! My city (Pensacola) is ranked #1 worst tap in Florida though so he will not be drinking tap at any point since we don't. Most cities will have a water report on the city web page that can better help your decision making! Good Luck!

I'm in the U.S. and I use bottled water but only because we have well water. I was told by the pediatrician that regular tap water was fine at 6 months.

i was unsure about tap water so i give my son bottled at the moment and cooled boiled water for his bottle of milk. he will be one in 2 weeks so i guess i could start tap water? dont know much about the tap water in this area of england but i think i will find out before i give him it : ) x

Well my sons been drinking tap water ever since we had to start on formula at 6 months old. He's almost 1 now and usually drinks at least one glass of plain water a day along with his formula and juice. He was sucking on ice cubes (in a mesh feeder) when he was just a couple months old. I don't know what the water is like in Australia tho, I'm in the Northwest USA

I am just now started to give my son tap water (US). We actually had the water tested first and it was just fine so I just started to give him tap water with his formula because we ran out of bottled water and we are far from town. There is no floride in the water in Montana...

im from the US and my doctor told me that tap water was the best water to mix in my sons formula because you dont know what chemicals are in bottled water, hes been on tap water since he was 2 1/2 mnths old.

I live in Florida and my tap water does not have fluoride in the water so I give my daughter Nursery water (pre-bottled water for babies) that contains fluoride in it already. I started to give her the water at about 7 months old. My personal opinion is I rather have my daughter drinking and getting used to water then sugar drinks.

mine has always had formula made with tap water

he was breastfed for the first six mos but always got one bottle of formula a day

and i also mixed cereals with water from the beginning

didn't actually give tap water to drink till closer to 10mos old and then only 2oz or so in a sippy cup - didn't want any feeling full with water and then not eating

now that he is 1yr he really only gets water in sippy cups for going out in the hot weather

Really it just depends where you live, if the tap water is clean enough I am sure they're fine. Ours comes straight from the creek so i always pour her some water out of the kettle (after its boiled) Every now and then if I have just boiled the kettle and forgotten to get some for her and its too hot then I get is out of the brita and she hasn't had any trouble. You can't bubble wrap them, they have to be introduced to germs in order to build up an immune system.
She still drinks plenty of the creek water in her bath though but it hasn't upset her either! LOL

HI, i live in nsw and i started giving my little 10 1/2 mth old girl tap water about 1 week ago...i asked alot of other mums too because i was very confused about it all. i syopped sterillising as well and my little girl is fine...i think they need what is in the tap water. my little one also drinks alot of water through the day :) its up to u but i think your little one will be fine :)

I started using tap water with the occasional bottle from the beginning. I live in Prague, CZ the first 2 months and then moved back to the US. I nursed full-time with the occasional bottle until he was 6 months, and then used tap water for all the bottles since then. He is 11 months old.

I dilute my son's juice with Nursery Water (the kind that comes in a gallon jug). i also mix his occasional bottle of formula with it. I have not given him tap water yet. He's 11 1/2 months now.

i live in the us so i dont know how much help ill be but my son got tap water from the begining! in my opinion if you dont expose them to the elements first off the later in life they will get sicker because they wont have a strong immune system!

We are in Australia too. My son will be one on the 5th july, i started him on tap water about 2-3 weeks ago. We havent had any problems. If you are on tank water or something though its best to stick to boiled water until they are 12 months (or so the child health nurse said!)

Im in BC Canada, the health nurse here advised me to start using tap water at around 4 months old when their immune systems can handle things better. Id say it's no problem unless you're in the U.S or another country where the water is very dirty.

I live in the US and I have always made my formula with tap water. I primarily breastfed until he was 9 months, but he always had water from the tap when I had to make him a bottle. He is perfectly healthy.

HI! I live in the UK, and I'm still giving my 11 months old bottled water, simply because i didn't when to start giving him tap water.
But for my first one, i was living in France, in Marseille, and this city's water is the best tap water in France, so much that all pedetricians advise to use it straight from the tap as soon as the baby is born (i was bottle feeding). My son never had any problem. But here i'm a bit more worried, but he'll come to it sooner or later!

im in the uk and ive been giving my daughter whos 11 months tap water for a couple of months. theyre fine with coping with normal water after about 6 months, thats why you can relax on sterilising at 6 months. x

I did forever ago, I'm from Canada though and I do run her water through my Brita because that's how we drink it too, but if I'm in a rush or the Brita is empty straight tap water it is.
