How many naps does your 15-16 month old have?

My son still has 2 naps but I want to cut him back to just 1, he has his first nap about 10-10:30 and he will sleep for 2-2.5 hours then his second nap he is put down between 3:00 and 4:00 and he will sleep for another hour or 2. He doesn't always go to sleep for his second nap, sometimes I will put him down for just 1 nap after lunch which he will sleep longer but he gets quite fussy and tired mid morning if he doesn't have that first nap which I think he still needs. He does sleep all night from 9 pm until 7 or 8 am. I'm just wanting to know if my son is the only one at nearly 16 months who still has 2 naps.

My almost 16 month old has one nap duing the day and its for about 2 hours , but it all depends on his mood, how is his sleep was the night before and what the weather is like , if its cold and misrable he is likely to sleep in the morning at 11:00 for 2 hours , wake up , have lunch and then at 15:00 go for a 30 min cat nap

My son Kgato who is 15months is not much of a napper, he would sleep for 20mins if we are lucky, but lately it seems there has been some change cause he would go for 2 to 3 hours. i dont know if it is the age thing, maybe he is growing older.

My son is 16 months old and takes one nap a day. He goes to bed at 7 every night and sleeps until 8am. His nap is usually around 12 or 1 and he usually sleeps for about two hours. He stopped taking a second nap on his own a couple months ago. I knew he didn't need it anymore when I would put him down for his nap and he wouldn't fall asleep. He just wasn't tired. If your boy is still sleeping for those two naps a day then he probably still needs both. If you decide to cut him back to one nap a day then I would try keeping him up a little longer after he wakes up in the morning (before you put him down for his nap) and putting him to bed earlier at night. It will only take a couple of days for his body to adjust to a new schedule. Good luck!

My son also still has 2 naps. Wakes at 7-8ish, naps at 9:00/10:00 for 1-2 hours and then has a second nap starting at 3:00/4:00 for 1 - 1.5 hours. He sleeps from 7:30 onwards. I have tried transitioning him to 1 nap but he is just not ready yet :)

My boy is much more pleasant with 2 naps. He can and would go down for just 1, but he seems less crabby and is still sleeping 11 hours at night so I am not going to mess with it!

One early to mid arvo nap a day. She wakes however at 8:30am (sometimes later) so simply is not tired again until then.

my son has been only having one nap since he was about 14months old, about 12-3 he will sleep and is down in bed by 8-30-9... he cut the second nap out himself, but occasionally he still will have if its a day we have been to town

my 15 month old only takes 1 nap and that usually around 12 but she also sleeps for 3 hrs and i like that cause form 12 - 3 i can clean house but she also gets up around 7am every morning and goes to bed at 10pm every night but we decided it was for the best for her to decide when to drop her 2nd nap and she done that by herself around 13 months give or take and i figure she is less grouchy with one 3 hr nap rather than 2 naps for an hr or two a piece and she sleeps better at night too so i would just try it with ur son and see how it affects him bc all babies r different

My daughter has 1 to 2 naps. it just veries from day to day and what activites she has had. I monitor her closely and put her down in the arvo if I think she needs it. She isnt quite ready for 1 nap yet, but she pushes it. Everyone is happier when they get the correct amount of sleepytime.

My son is 16 months old and if I am lucky, he will sleep for about an hour only once a day! We are out and about a lot so sometimes he wakes up if we are busy around town doing activities, but even during the week when my grandmother watches him, he only settles down once during the day and takes an hour nap. Once in awhile, he will go down for an hour and a half but he has never been a good napper!! After he was one month old, he was pretty much up all day long!!!! This has been a very exhausting year for me!!lolll.... Anyone else out there experienced this as well?...

consider yourself blessed to have a child who takes 2 naps. Mine only sleeps for 1 1/2 to 2 hours a day usually midmorning. this is not alot of time to do anything. maybe shower and do some laundry and have lunch. keep the naps as long as you can especially if he's still sleeping long through the night

Ah for sure, there all different. In fact there was a mother on this last week and i really wanted to write back to her as her comment was so ridiculas, she was talking about how many naps and she was saying that the 'NORMAL' child should nap ONLY ONCE a day and for , i cant remember the exact hour. But a 'NORMAL' child.. Can someone please tell me what a NORMAL child is as we are all an individual and theres nosuch thing as a normal child !!
So yes, each child is verrrrry different with sleeping patterns but is STILL normal !

yes. 2 naps. They aren't as long as your sons though... If he doesn't have that second nap he is an absolute cranky terror when I am trying to get supper ready and feed him. HE doesn't always think he needs a second nap, but this mommy knows better. each kid is different though

My daughter is 15 and a half months and definitely needs two naps. She wakes up around 8am, has her first nap 10.30 for an hour or so, then lunch, play, another nap at 3.30 for 2 hours, and bedtime is 8.30pm. She still wakes for feeds twice a night though (and more if she's sick, or teething *sigh*) so that might be why she naps more.
I love her naptime, it means I can get things done!

My daughter put herself on a one-nap-a-day schedule, really. From time to time she still has two naps, but generally she'll spend 30 minutes in her crib at her morning nap time talking and babbling and then fussing to get out. Then she'll take a nap early-to-mid-afternoon and sleep for 2 1/2 hours. Let your son dictate when he's ready for just one nap. And it may fluctuate because during a growth spurt, for instance, he may need an extra nap, or if he was up late the night before, or if he had an extremely stimulating day, etc. Don't push him; if you think he needs that first nap, put him down...and if he doesn't sleep then get him up and try again in a couple of hours. He'll tell you when he's ready for one nap a day instead of two. :)

My daughter only takes one nap a day. She wakes at 8 everday like clockwork, then naps from Noon to 2 or 3 oclock. She goes to bed around 9 most nights. However she STILL doesn't sleep through the night. She wakes once a night for a bottle and then goes back to sleep. I know she should be done with the bottle, but I just can't break her of it. She has never taken a pacifier.

If he doesnt go down in the morning hes all grumpy and crys at anything! strange thing is my mum has him twice a week when i am at work and he doesnt sleep at all with her! maybe she can deal with his grumpyness better than me!

Your son is certainly NOT the only one that naps and at that NAPS A LOT !! My 16 month old son goes down at night at about 8.30pm/9.00 and sleeps righ through till about 11 the next morning, then he goes down for his nap at 3pm for about an hour and a half, so he has one nap but he wakes up much longer than your boy so you can look at it like this, my boy naps twice a day.. He s verry much in a routine so he obviously needs his little Zzzzzzz.. :)

My daughter takes 1 nap starting between noon and 2pm and it usually lasts 2 hours. and she sleeps from 9:30/10pm to 9am. We tweaked her schedule so that she can be awake for at least a half hour when her dad gets home from work. A 1-2 yr old should be getting about 13 hours of sleep in a 24 hour period...weather they gat 1 nap, 2 naps or even 3 naps.

The last couple days I put him down once right after lunch and he is starting to adjust to just one nap. He will sleep for 3 or 4 hours, now the problem with that is I also have an older child who is in school and who I have to pick up at 2:30 so with my husband working during the day there will be 3 days where I have to wake him up in the middle of his nap to go get my daughter so those days he will probably be quite fussy and tired early evening and will probably need to go to bed a little earlier. I still have yet to see how he does on those days Wed-Fri when I have to wake him up in the middle of his nap.

My 16 month old son still takes 2 naps per day and I am also holding on to that as long as I can (especially as I am expecting baby#2 in January)! I figure he will let me know when he's ready to drop to one nap, which is what he did when he dropped from 3 to 2. Now, he wakes around 7, goes down for his first nap between 10 and 10:30, sleeps for an hour or 2, then goes down again between 3 and 4 for another hour. Then he typically goes to bed between 7 and 7:30. We've had afternoons where he didn't take that second nap and it made dinnertime absolutely crazy because he was tired and cranky. So I just don't think he's ready to drop that afternoon nap yet. Enjoy it while you can:)

My 16mo only take one nap a day now... but we sleep in til about 8:30am most morns, so he dropped that second nap awhile ago. I figured if he woke up at 7 like most normal babies(!) he may still need two sleeps. I wouldn't drop the 2nd sleep until he's ready... and you only know they're ready when they don't sleep! Maybe try for a couple days stretching him out and only putting him to sleep around lunchtime and if he's not adjusting, just keep up the 2 sleeps a day... I wouldn't really worry. But anyway, I don't put my son to sleep til about 12ish and he'll sleep for an hour a half-2hrs, then he has a late lunch and bedtime is 7:30 (it was 7, before daylight savings started). I like putting Jamie down earlier at night, so I can have some alone time with my hubby before we go to bed, and because Jamie only has one sleep a day, he's ready for bed then. It's really whatever you want your routine to be! If Jamie had 2 sleeps a day, he prob wouldn't be ready to sleep til 9ish too... :)

Mine still needs 2 naps but he doesn't always take them. Lately, I've been putting him down for his first after breakfast and then I get in the shower. When I come back out and walk past his room I can hear him still talking to himself in there. Sometimes I let him get up in hopes that he will take a really good nap after lunch. Sometimes he's too sleepy to fall asleep for his second nap and ends up taking a nap while I make supper and then I feel like I need to wake him to eat his supper so he can go to bed at a normal time. He gets so sleepy and grumpy but refuses to sleep at normal times. I'm at loss.

Joey usually only has one nap per day unless of course one of his three brothers decides to wake him with all the noise they like to make, then he may take two. But that one nap is usually around 12ish in the afternoon and can last about two hrs..... if they let him sleep!

My son takes 1 nao around 12:30 or 1. If you want to cut him down to one nap, he will be cranky for a bit but eventually he will get used to going to bed after lunch. He may sleep better at night if he only has one nap as he will be ready for bed by the time night comes.

My boy has one nap a day, an hour or two after lunch. His bedtime is between 8-9pm and he wakes up anytime between 0630 to 0830.

He changed to one nap just before his birthday. It was becoming harder and harder for me to get him to sleep for his morning nap so I stopped trying and left it until after lunch.

My son has one or two naps a day, depending on how early he gets up. Usually he's awake by 5:30am, has a nap around lunchtime for half hour or so, and then sometimes may have another half hour nap around 5pm, then its bedtime at 8pm.
