Just curious if anyone else is doing baby sign with thier baby? If so, how is it coming along? I know when I was in the states I had a lady ask me if my baby was deaf (I had to laugh a little...) I know I've read about 6mo is when it starts to become interactive (typically) and yes, all children are different, I'm just interested to see if anyone else is doing it and getting results.

l did some basic signing with my 2 year old when he was a baby. It didn't delay his speach. He's a great talker now. We did stop the signing when he started to talk since we no longer needed it. A couple of days ago l started teaching the twins. l do more, eat, no, yes, and nap. l can't wait to see them sign to me.

I've been signing to my 6-month old child for over a month now. I use basic signs to her such as milk, more, food, water, bath, mama, play, up and dada. She cannot sign back however, she recognizes some of the signs through her facial expression. I know it will takel take a few months for her to sign back or to see the actual result.
Signing Time by Two Little Hands is great and enjoyable to watch. It gears towards both child and parent viewing.

I am doing it. My LO will be six months old tomorrow. My husband got me "The Idiot's Guide to Baby Sign Language" for Christmas. We've been working on the sign for more since Christmas. However, the book says I won't see signs from him for about two months. He does seem to respond to and recognize the sign. It's supposed to be really good for them and they actually will have a larger vocabulary when the begin actually talking. Good Luck to you. :)

my daughter is doing both actually, she is speaking and signing, she says just a few basics (she just turned 6mo yester day) likes buh buh (for bye bye) and waves, signs for nurse, and KNIWS when I sign for it and gets excited, signs and *kinda says dada, and were working on sissy. so far no issues? we use words with the sign tho. For some more difficult words ive srotened the words to letters, like just a "y" for yogurt... but i guess it may be a bit different? we've been doing it since day 1.

I'm scared to do it, everyone I've known that has done baby signing has had trouble with them speaking. The kids just relied on their signs and (I guess) didn't want to bother with talking.
Have you had a different experience? I know I want my daughter to know some signing (I used to work with some deaf people and it was wonderful for me and for them to be able to communicate a little) but I am so scared to start while she's still a baby...

i'm not yet but plan to! when my older daughter attended daycare 2 days a week they taught them some and it was very helpful!
