Is anyone else starting their 4 month old on baby food yet?

my son started cereal a few days before his and he loved it,well not the first 2 days but after that he loved the rice cereal,the barley cereal and the oatmeal cereal.....but he loves breast milk even more,but not in a bottle.

The right time is between 4-6 months, depending on when your baby is ready. I started mine in cereal 2 days ago, she was waking up to breastfeed every 1/2 hour, she loves her cereal and is not nursing so much.

I started giving my daughter rice cereal at about 3 1/2 months after I had her on that for a week or two I tried giving her oatmeal....the main thing is to be consistent...DO NOT introduce multiple foods, they should try each food for at least 3-4 days before you try something new. I would probably do the cereal first for a few weeks then at about 4 months try introducing foods. Personally, I started fruits first and introduced each one for about 3-4 days before I started a new one. I also started giving her an ounce of juice mixed in her bottle (mainly to help her go to the bathroom) but I've found that she likes it (not too cold) you can delude it if you want but I don't. Really you just need to follow your instincts, you'll know when the time is right and your baby will let you know if he or she is not ready. Good luck!

my son has tried all the gerber 1st foods and loves every one of them! but he is breastfed and since the introduction of foods he has had fewer poopy diapers he isn't uncomfortable or fussy I just don't like that it seems to be making him constipated. I've decided to stop with the baby food for a few more weeks and just breastfeed exclusively. maybe he will be able to digest easier between 5 and 6 months... plus my ped said he didnt actually need baby food yet but it was safe to let him start at four months if he was showing interest

i feed my four month baby food all the i have even tried chicken she did not like it unless i mixed it with somthing good but she can eat a whole big jar and four oz the sleeps for 6 hours and she still does not weigh that much

my lil girl is 4 months and we started her on baby food. she loves it! she goes back and forth between wanting the bottle and food. but if she eats baby food we always give some formula after to wash the food down.

when we went for Chase 4 month check his pediatrician actually recommended baby food. he doubled his birth weight quickly, currently he weighs 17.5 lbs. he loves his baby food:-)

I started my son Jaylen when he was 3 months. The milk just was not feeling him up and he is sleeping through the night when I feed him food!!

i started weaning william from 17weeks, he started on baby rice at 10 weeks to try and get him to sleep through the night, he loves his food and has always been a hungry baby. he eats anything and evrything well apart from apple. it is only in the last year that the experts have decided babys shud be exclusivley milk fed till 6 monthes it has always been in the past 4 monthes/ 17weeks, as long as you are feeding gluten free till they are 6 monthes (the stomach has problems digesting it before then) then i dnt see a problem, evrything is so focused on breastfeeding nowadays thats wer all the new guidelines have cum from. it didnt do us ne harm wen we wer babys and i dnt c how it can cause ne harm to ours. If ther enjoying it then let them, my cousin and my friend both started thers aon solids at 4 monthes and ther now 7 and 9 monthes and striving!!!

Hey ya'll..
im from Germany.,my lil babigurl is now 4 month old,and i started 2 weeks ago to feed her babyfood like carrots with potatoes,chicken vegetable and noodles for lunch,and fruits for desert,and other than that she's still gettin the bottle..AND SHE LOVES IT!! I wouldnt give her the same food im eatin cuz all them spices would be too much for her lil tummy,the babyfood im feedin her is specially made for 4 month old babies,so no sugar or spices in it! I was too afraid to mess up her tummy by feeding her earlier than 4 month,but if some of ya dont have problems with their baby tummys thats cool..anyway..i think you should give it a try,see how ur baby will react on the food(tummy ache ect)..but i bet that once your baby has taste the baby food that he/she will be a very HAPPY Baby,lol..Good luck..

My son just turned four months and his doctor said to start him on baby food. but to do veggies and only orange ones for now because the green ones tend to cramp up babies... He said not to do fruit yet because they wont ever like the veggies then... and to do only 1 veggie for about a week to see if they are allergic

My little girl is just over 4 months and ive started giving her the baby food u buy from the supermarket at 3 months shes loves it and is now having 3 feeds a day, family and friends say its too early but i wont stop giving it to her.

My baby from day one had a big appetite and to break him from the formula milk I introduced him to babies food at 3 months....coz his appetite is way too much and when there is no food he hardly sleep.....i give him twice a day and works for me....sleeps at night like for 5 hours before he wakes up

I just recently ground up organic brown rice, boiled it in water to cook it and added breastmilk to thin it out for my 4 month old. She didn't like it much but we'll keep trying each night.

Hey.. My son started eating baby food the day he turned 4 months.. [I was too anxious and excited]. He is now 19 weeks. He loves the peas and bananas, but hates pears and carrots. I give him one type of food every 4 days that way I can monitor his BM and also see if he gets any allergies or have problems from it. So far so good, however, his BM changes colors based on the food. I am a lil concerned on the amount to give him though. I usually give him 1 tablespoon of baby food a day but yesterday because my son loved the bananas so much my husband talked me into giving him another tablespoon and he took it down like a champ. I'm not sure though if that is too much. But good news is my son now sleeps through the whole night. He used to wake up once during the night before I started the baby food but now he goes to sleeps at 9:30PM and doesn't wake up until 5:30AM.

when i went for my check up with my 4 month old the doctor said i should put him on baby cereal first and then next month i can start him on veggie purity ... she said he is ready for it .. he now eats cereal in the morning and at lunch .. seems to be enjoying it ... as long as he isnt getting cramps or anything like that ... then i dont see what the problem is

My son is 4 months old. They say you shouldn't feed them until 6 months, but you know your baby. I started feeding my son when he was 2 1/2 months as part of his last meal. I introduce each food slowly so, he spends about 2 weeks on each food, just so I can make sure he doesn't have any reactions.

my baby was started on cereal at a week old, and her pediatrician wanted her spoonfed by the time she was four months old. believe it or not she is spoonfed. she loves food. she started eating from a spoon at about 2 and a half months. she loves food. my baby was 9 pounds and a half an ounce when she was born she is now 15pounds and 12 ounces, they are just like us. formula alone does not cut it when you have a big baby. so feed your baby and dont let anyone make you feel bad. you would not fill up on a few ounces of water and formula so neither do they.

It really all depends on your baby. My 5 month old daughter is eating every fruit and veggie, and has been for quite some time. I just always watch for her dirty diapers, and make sure they aren't too hard. Another good rule of thumb is to try the new baby food for 3 days before beginning a new one, that way if there were to be an allergic reaction, you would be able to know which one it would be! Good luck, and let that baby eat away :)

I'm doing it too!!! My 4month old loves bananas, pears, applesauce, and peaches!!! She has one after her cereal in the morning and one for snack later in the day..

We started our daughter on some cereal a few weeks ago. She is getting the hang of it. Doctor says that it is fine as long as I introduce the single grain cereals first one at a time. 2-3 days on each. Then introduce vegetables one at a time. She didn't suggest fruits first because then she wouldn't like the vegetables. Made sense to me.

4 months old is when you are supposed to start introducing them to baby food. My son is 4 months old and he is eating baby food and some cereal, it's totally fine.

My friend start giving her daughter cereal at 2 weeks .So i felt it was ok to give home food at 4 months.I also felt that he was getting enough from the Milk alone.

my son was born july 20th and he was 2 months early... after he kept on wanting a bottle every few hours we tried giving him baby cereal on a spoon and his doctor said not to because he was premature but he knew exactly what to do with a spoon with food on it. now we give my son baby cereal atleast twice a day and little thing of apple sauce once every other day. he also gets to taste whatever we eat as long as its not solid food.

I started my 4month old when he was about 2 1/2 months. he started taking formula every 2 hours, we put 2tsp of rice cereal with every ounce of formula, then we just started giving him cereal for a couple weeks, then we put some fruit with it. he loves applesauce! With the rice cereal it constipates my lil man. Few people told me a tsp of oatmeal cereal will help clear him out. It's worked so far! :)

My son is 4 1/2 months and we started baby cereal at 4 months exactly. My doctor told me to do cereal for 2 weeks and introduce 1 new food per week after that starting with carrots and squash. Only do one food a week to make sure that they aren't allergic.

I started my son at 4 months. It's fine if they are doing number 2's correctly. If they aren't it could mean they are constipatated. This is due to developmental problems, but if your child likes food, go for it!

My baby girl is the same age. She just had her 4 mth visit last week on the 17. They told me to feed her 4oz of cereal..less formula and definatley introduce baby food. When introducing it though you have to give them 3 days of the same thing to make sure they have no allergies to the food. Also they are more than likely going to sleep longer throughout the night if baby isn't already sleeping through the night. I hope this helps!

My son is now almost 5 months, but at his 4 month checkup the doctor said to start him on rice cereal because he was not gaining enough weight. So I started giving it to him once a day. Now he gets it twice a day and I will throw some bananas or pears inside of it. He loves it. He is still a little too young for applesauce though. I did notice him spitting up more frequently. Every doc has their own opinion. As a mother do what you feel is right. If you feel she is ready then try a little.

My daughter is four months and from ym doctors advice he said that i could start giving her a rice cereal for the first month then move to an oat cereal with some sort of fruit flavouring to it and once she has acccepeted that to start introducing the baby foods aprox. one new food every 4 days....

Hello my baby girl just turned 4 months on Sunday. She breastfeed only and I'm wondering the same if I should start her on solids too. She pops her lips when she see food or water etc.When she went to see her Dr. she said no solids until 5 1/2 to 6 months. Will it hurt to start now

My little boy will be 4 months old the end of this month & he has been eating baby food since he was 2 months old. He started on rice cereal in his bottles @ a month. His doctor was just fine w him eating baby food. He actually eats 1 jar of Gerber 2nds every evening. No problems so far! But see how your baby reacts to it. Not all babies are the same!

I haven't started mine yet. I just started her on half juice half water at the beginning of the month, she goes for her 4 month check-up tomorrow, so we'll see what he says. But I think she's ready to start out on rice cereal at least.

i took my 4 month old for a check up today and she asked if he was eating baby food yet. She encouraged to continue to try and feed him some everday!! So there is nothing wrong with it and my son has an excellent ped!!!

My son was 4 months old on nov. 2 and hes been eating jar food since he was 3 months old now hes gotten to eating stage 2 already and hes been on that for about a week, Did the same thing with my older daughter and she did good with it too.

My baby girl loves it!! I starting it when she was about 3 months, just oatmeal cereal from a spoon. Sometimes I'll mix some bananas or prunes in her bottle for something different. But she seems to enjoy it, she like making as much of a mess and she likes to eat it hahah! She is 5 months now and we havnt had any problems :)

I was wondering the same thing I took my son for his 4 month visit last friday and the Dr said that at this point it's ok to introduce baby foods because his digestive tract is now able to digest it better now although most breast fed babies don't have an intrest in eating until around 6 months. She suggested starting with the rice which he'll eat but only ort a regular cup. He is now trying to reach for my food and cup so I may have to take some of the suggestions and try some of the food previously mentioned.

if she loves the baby food and it keeps her full i dont see why not. The doctors say dont start the child on solid food until 4 months old because of the immaturity of their digestive tracts. If it doesnt seem to upset her stomach and shes happy, keep at it. Kids develop at different rates, dont let others criticize your insticts and whats good for your child.

my son is 4 months now and he has been eating baby food now for about a month and he is just fine. all my doctor said to do was only intruduce one type of baby food at a time for about a week so that you no if they have a reaction to it or not. he has loved it.

Nina, the way I see it, you know your baby better than anyone. If she is tolerating the baby food and her bowel movement is healthy than I don't see anything wrong with it. Don't listen to others as all babies are different. You just go with what the baby tells you.

I plan on doing it at Thanksgiving. My daughter will be less than a week shy of 5 months and that is when her pediatrician advised me to start her on solids. I was going to wait the recommended 6 months, but some are ready at 4 mos. and some are ready at 6 mos. and mine should be ready at 5 months. lol. I don't want to start on cereal and he said that I don't have to. I want to start with something like peas, carrots or maybe sweet potato since it's Thanksgiving. lol.



I am going to video tape it...I want it to be special because we won't be spending Christmas with my side of the family, just Thanksgiving...so it makes it a bit more special that it's her first Thanksiving and her first video taped thing and her first feeding of something other than formula. Makes up for the dissapointment of not having Christmas with them =]
