Is it possible my 7 month is saying Dad, bub etc? Or are these just sounds?

after reading some of these comments i have realised that maybe i'm not being silly. John is a few days short of 8 months and for about a month maybe more, he has been calling out mama when he's hungry. Hey when i mute the tv, papapa when his father is home and makes like a mmmnnumnum sound when he's hungry. he understands what i want to do when i ask him if i can change him, he crawls to me and relaxes his legs so i can change him ( which is a vast difference from a few weeks ago where he screamed his head off every time i wanted to change him!!) and he comes to me when i ask him to aswell.... i think these lil angels are alot brighter that we might have previously thought!!

My baby girl is 7 and half months she has been talking since she was 4 and half months she also has a older cuzin living with us she learns all his word i should say she is his parrot. Her words are dad daddy dada sistah hey hi koro aunty uncle aue baba bye ect she says alot for someone her age but i think that has alot to do with her cuzin being around maybe ur baby is learning faster because of ur older son. Babys are the biggest parrots and if they have someone older to follow and parrot they will do so.

When my daughter was 6months old she started saying dada and mama. when we told people she was talking and they told us shes baby talking she not saying what we think she is. But she just turned 7months old, when she see us, she still says mama and dada and she know what the words mean. she also watches peoples mouth when they are talking and she tries to copy. In my opinion I think some baby's do start talking at an early age but it may take them a while to understand what the words mean.

My son is 7months as well and he started saying Dada Mama. I think he understand Mama only because I respond to him when he says mama. Therefore, he has made that association with the word.

Yep! Our now 7 month old REALLY started babbling alot at 5 months, now when daddy comes home, she lokks straight in his eyes adn says "hey dada, hey dada" the other night she was crying so hard for me that when I got back from the store she grabbed my face and "Momma want you, Momma want" she also tries to mimic other babies. Probably because you have an older one that is talking, she is mimicking and figures out what it actually means! This will be great for your 19month old too!

It's definately possible. My son Dylan started saying dad when he was about 6 months old and then started saying mum. He usually says mum when he is very tired or hungry but only says mum to me and only dad or dada to his dad.

My 7mo daughter has said "mama" several times - mostly just babble (I think) but last Tuesday she said it as soon as I got home from work, and started fussing until I held her (My mom had been holding her). I think I heard a "dada" today.
I met another 7mo old last week that the grandma was bragging about - she can say: Hi, Mommy, Gramma, I love you, bye-bye, and a couple more. Every baby is very different!

Gracelyn is 7 months and she is saying dada and she will say bye and wave excitely. She does also say KK (her brothers nickname). She also can point to her toes when I ask her where is her toes. I did get her the reading system your baby can read and she loves it. My son had problems with reading so I want to start her right.

My son has been saying dada since 5 months and now at 7 months says dada, baba, up, and no. Still can't say mama but he def. knows what he's saying.. if he's on the ground crawling and wants me or daddy to hold him he sticks his arms in the air and says up..

It's possible because my son is 7 months also. He began saying mama at 5 going on 6 months and at first my husband and i was asking ourselves if he really was saying mama. i said no i don't think so. until one day he was crying and looking at me saying mama. that's when i realized that he is really saying mama. now he comes to me when he wants me and says mama. recently he has been saying dada when he wants his dad. especially in the morning he'll wake up and say dada while hitting my husband repeatly until he wakes up. so cute then he'll turn to me to wake up.

my daughter is 7 months and she does the same when her dad comes in the room she looks at him and says Dad and certain questions you ask her she says Ok and with other people she says Hi sometimes when you talk to her when she is doing something else she will look at you and it sounds like she says What? lol so i dont think its in you mind if it is then it must be in mine to lol

I was just thinking the same thing!!!! I talk to my daughter every night (she's my first, and her father is not around) so we say mama, Gabby a lot, and I thought it was just baby babble and I was going crazy....but this morning when I walked upstairs after playing for a while, she clearly said mama, then went about what she was doing....I fee like I'm going crazy....she only said it once, where as her babble is usually mamamama repeatedly???? IDK!

myson was very slow at talking he only said 5 words till he was 3 but this was because he had a problem hearing. my daughter is 7.5 momths and she now says dad dad, booboo (our dogs name) and now 'ello' and wave when she does it. so i recon that she'd be doing it as well. usually the second child picks things up quicker than the first but not all the time as my daughter has a 'rolly bum' and cant sit on it properly but yet she is almost crwling. each at there own pace i say :)

My 7 month old seems to say ma when hes tired or just wants me to hold him. He also says ummy when eating. So it is possible that its beginnings of speaking.

I really believe they know what they are saying. My little girl is 7.5 months and at around 6 months she started saying "mama" now she has moved on to saying "dada" and "bubu". I believe she know the difference between the two because all day while my hubby is at work she says "dada". When she gets tired or falls down or gets mad at her dada she will begin saying "mama". Also when we say byebye to her, in return she trys to say it back by say "bubu". She will also try to mimic us in waving when we wave to her. So I do truly believe that they are speaking and do understand what they are saying.

My 7 month old daughter can say DaDa. I dont think she knows what it means but its what she say's all of the time.

Aw, my little one is very chatty, though in her own little language - she looks at me and goes along the lines of "ah da da da da da da da [raspberry] [raspberry] da da da" and it's all very purposeful. And on occasion, when she's upset, she goes "mum mum", but I think it's mainly babble at the moment.

I did read, though, that what you can do is when you baby says "mama/mum", you reply to him/her, and when it's "dada", daddy replies, helping to cement in the baby's head the association of the two sounds with the people.

Whether it means anything or not (and just because your first was later with his language, that doesn't mean your second will be too), just join in the conversation and enjoy it on whatever level you wish! :)

hi, my first son started talkin around 15 months, just the simple words, my daughter who is 20months hardly says much and it sounds like my new son, who is 7months, is starting to talk, he may just be babbling but a few other people have said they think hes saying my daughters name, Amber. It comes out very clear, and he says it all the time looking at my daughter. He also says buba, im not sure if that means bye or if its just a noise. but i think hes starting to talk already. so maybe your son is doing it too. x

When my son was 5 months he said "dada" plain as day for about 3 weeks but now he doesn't say it at all. He is now 7 months and a few days and sometimes "says" what, bye,little words like that. If it is talk and not baby babble that is awesome!

Hey! I think its absolutely possible. my daughter just turned 7 months on the 13th & she clearly says mama & says it all day!! she is also makin b-b-b-b sounds when she gets her bottle. I think its just some kids learn differently. Plus your 7 month is more likely to learn quicker with your 19 months old running around. (crawling, running, playing talking, etc.)

just thinking the same thing with my 7 1/2 year old and her babble sounding more and more like daddy each day. I still think it's just babble as she often says it to me and I'm sure to tell her "I'm mommy" ;) but there are other sounds like bye and hi that sound more like words too, though randomly in context as well. It's how they learn and soon enough the babble will be matching the appropriate thing/person. Plus, he may be mimicking his brother who is saying those things now. I work with children who have delays and even though my B.S. is in human development I forget all the time when stuff is supposed to start happening due to the kiddos I work with. I think it only matters if it's a significant delay and they need services to catch up. Otherwise, I just wait and watch all the changes each day! I love it.

Our 7 month old says Mamamama when he's crying and wants to be held and we thought he was just babbling, but it's been consistent. He also says "bub" and "ba" a lot.

It is possible, my son was saying Mama and Mom at 3 months old . My daughter says Mama and Mom as well and she started at 6 months old. Every child is different.

It sounds like my little one (born July 30/09) is making Mama and Bubba sounds too!!! My husband thinks I'm crazy, but I think she's starting to talk too....lol...she can definately identify what the words are when she hears them though. I know that for sure! Ex- When I say "want a bottle" she gets excited. lol.

My 7 month old son says "mama" when he wants me and "dada" when he wants daddy, he also says something that sounds like "iya" and his sisters name is Kyia, when he says these things we hand him to that person. He is also saying aww when he is giving kisses and "og" when he sees our friends dog. the more you encourage the more they learn and the faster. All babies learn at their own pace but right now they are a vacuum and are learning everything.

My 7.5 month old girl says mama. She says it when she falls or when she's tired and wants me to hold her. It kind of shocked us the first few times but she says it in the right context so I think she knows. Like Amberlee said, every baby is different!

Hi, my son is 7 months and he says Dada, I think it's just babbling and its easy to say for a baby. My 3 year old started talking at 10 months and she encourages him a lot, repeating words for him. It is possible for your baby to copy you but I don't think they know what they are saying. I could be wrong though. :)
