It kind of worries me cuz he has been doin this since he was like a month old. If u hold him up he like stands...idk how else to explain it. When I try to sit him down he locks his legs so i cant. He seems to enjoy it but im afraid that it will make him bow legged or affect his spine or something.

My daughter wanted to sit since 3 month old, and now that she is 5, she wants to stand all the time..she also can stand holding on the sofa for like 10-15 sec (on her own)...

I also was worried, but when I saw how happy she was and enjoyed it, I convinced myself that there is nothing wrong.I just don't force her to stand when she is tired...she chooses when and how :)...

It is wonderful when i see her smiling like that :D

My baby is 4 months old and she has been doing it since about 6 weeks. I'm not worried. All babies do things at their own pace.

My daughter was the same way really early, she just loves to stand. She would lock her legs too....I put her in her exersaucer at 2 months...She loved it. She started in her jolly jumper at around 4 months and loves that too!!

My son does the same.. he locks his legs and wants to stand. I ask the doctor about him being bow legged and the doctor gave me a strange look and told me that all babys are born bow legged and if anything it would help to straighten his legs. So no worries!

I really don't think that you have anything toworry about. My daughter has been doing the same thing since she was just about two weeks old, and her legs are fine. As of just these past two weeks, she has figured out how to sit on her own, and began crawling too. Her newest thing started yesterday, where she gets on her knees, grabs ahold of the couch, and stands up for abut 15 seconds before plopping back down on her behind. So as long as your ped doesn't see anything wrong with your child's physical developmenat, then go ahead and let them stand with help.

My son LOVES to stand. He started trying to stand from the very beginning, I guess about a month old, and he has started sitting up on his own at 4 months. He's coming up on 6 months now (Jan 3) and he has already pulled himself up to a standing position in his crib twice.

When he was really young I also used to worry that it might not be good for his little legs to let him stand on them, but I was assured by my doctor that it's nothing to worry about, so I let him do it all he wants because he's gaining balance and strength. I wouldn't worry too much as long as your little girl seems happy to do it!

if you have a Boppy pillow, you can sit him in it and tuck it around him. i put my son in it and he'll still try to sit forward, and looks like he's folded in half, but that's what he wants to do. just the other day he started rolling forward out of it, but that's what he wants to do! he hates being on his tummy, or lying down, so he loves his walker & doorway jumper! (my pediatrician discouraged the walker that actually moves, his is an exersaucer, it's mounted on a large disk, but he's able to turn around in it as the seat rotates.) have fun with your little one! ppl weren't kidding when they say they grow FAST!!!

Just enjoy every new thing they do. My daughter has been pulling herself to stand, holding hands since only about a month old yet my friends son, now 3 months is not yet starting to do so. They each develop differently, just try to give them activities to help them further develop.

My daughter is 5 months, she's been loving to stand since she was about 2 months. She was a preemie so I think it's pretty normal for them to stand up like that. I have 5 year old son that did that too, his legs are perfect, heck, they never stop moving! (-:

It is in the book, What to Expect in the First Year....wanting to stand will not cause bowleggedness....it is a form of exercise for them and a change of scenery from being on the floor....you should only be worried if they don't want to stand by this age but don't force it

If my daughter is lying down and you hold her hands, she pushes her legs so that she is standing and she loves it!!! I do let her do it a bit as she likes it but I dont do it too much as I have also heard of them suffering in later life with their legs and backs. I am buying my daughter one of those baby walkers so that she is standing up but the weight is on her bum rather than her feet. Maybe try this??

My daughter is almost 5 months and barely rolls over, but she loves to sit up and stand but can't stand being on her belly or reclining. I thought it was weird too especially since everyone kept telling me she was moving fas in that department. I guess babies just like what they like even when the books say something different. Every kid is different.

i dont understand why everyone is worrying over their childs development. Why cant you worried mothers just relax and let these poor babies grow without thinking everything is not normal and needs to be discussed! I have a 5month old and he is the happiest baby because I dont fuss over every little thing.

my 4 month old loves standing up and sitting up he hates lying down,my advice is to get a door bouncer or baby walker,as long as he can support his head he is ok to use both these things, stick him in it,for no more than 20-30 mins and you might find that he uses this oppertunity to use his legs,it will also tire him out so he will sleep better, but as long as your not making him stand unaided he will be fine

I wouldn't worry about it...my five month old has been doing the same thing since he was about a month and a half old. Bouncers and Exer-saucers are made for the purpose of building leg muscles in preparation for a child being bale to support their own weight. He is just a little ahead of himself. :) Just enjoy the fact that he seems to "set his sights high," I am pretty sure it isn't gonna cause any physical harm.

My little girl is now 5 months and does the same (and really seems to enjoy it). She was 4 weeks premie so she has to see a developmental team peridically. I was told not to allow her to do this because it over-stregthens the back muscules in comparison to the stomache muscles and can delay crawling and walking. It also impeads reaching on properly as when the back muscules lock, the shoulders are drawn backwards and prevent her from reaching forward. We don't let her stand like that (the kind of standing where her muscules are just locked) and do excercises during the day and she is doing much better. When she's angry, sitting is still hard because that's when she wants to lock up the most - if you can get her to bend just one of her legs, it disengages the set of back muscules and allows her to sit.

i'm not sure, but i dont think it's too strange. John has also been a very strong baby from birth (and he was 2 weeks early) he's also always preffered to stand and jump on me and refuses to sit. i was worried his legs would not be able to handle his weight and that they would grow bent, but he gets so frustrated with me if i dont help him stand and jump that i have decided- - if he is strong enough to do it then he should be able to handle it. he has been able to take his full weight from about 3 months but i still try keep the pressure off a bit.

I think that's probably normal, but you can always ask your pediatrician. My daughter was 8 weeks premature and the physical therapist in the NICU at the hospital told her father and me that it may take her muscles longer to develop, but if you hold her where her legs can stretch down, she'll put pressure down on her feet. I think every baby will progress at different paces, but it doesn't hurt to ask. :)

My son is 5 1/2 months old & hes been doing the same thing for awhile now too! I think its good for him. He seems to enjoy it & I just try not to let him over exert himself. I always joke around with him & ask him if he's trying to be "big boy"! I look at it as a positive that he is growing and maybe will be ahead of the game when it does come time to crawl and walk because he will have built up muscle strength in his legs! I wouldnt be worried at all about him being bow legged; as long as your supporting him, most of his weight is held by you holding him, not with his legs. So have fun and enjoy it, I think its funny when my son does it!

Both my boys have been able to support their weight on their legs when they were only a few days old. (we have to hold them to steady them) and my 20 months old doesn't have bowed legs or any problems in that area. We got a bounce bounce baby, i have also heard them called jumperoos. Both my boys loved being in there a little eveery day since they were 2 months old. Someone told me that those jumpers cause delays of walking, by my little guy walked at 11 months, so i don't think that it made a difference!

No worries! My son started doing the same thing! Don't worrry, that is all part of their developement. I JUST read in the "What to Expect the First Year" that this was VERY common, and no it did not cause problems with their legs. Babies just get tired of sitting down and want to experiment. My son does the same thing. He loves to try and sit up in his car seat and (esp when after he eats... I think this part is due to the fact that it's easier for him to burp this way) he loves to "stand up" when I am trying to burp him :-)

My first LO did that...he ended up walking early too. :) Some babies just like to stand others like to lay...each one develops on their own and at their own pace...the milestones are just a "norm" of population. Let him do things on his own...if it bothers him he will stop. Babies are born with the instincts not to do things that will hurt them. :)

I agree with the other moms. My son was born breech so he came out with strong legs and able to hold his own head up. I was concerned also because he'll memic my cousin's 9 month old. I've been just going with the flow. He now pulls his walker all around chasing the dog, sits up almost on his own and almost crawl. My mom said my brother was the same way. Heck, he's still always on the move! lol

It's fine. My daughter does that all the time too. It won't cause a baby to be bow legged...that is a myth. It is actually good for developing lower body strength...like a baby jumper does. lol. They even start to "jump" which shows them that they can bounce themselves, they don't need you to do it for them. Plus, it's great when they get that "I'm doing it...oh, I got it, I'm doing it.." look. Cutest thing =]

My sweetie has been doing the same thing... he loves to stand. I don't think it will make him bow legged, if anything it should strengthen his legs and help him develop his balance. He is also constantly trying to sit up... and can stay up on his own with a little help from a boppy pillow.

When you sit him up prop pillows around him to help him balance it will also help him use his muscles which will begin to strengthen and soon he will be sitting fully on his own
