Does anyone know how long after you've had your baby before you can start exercising again? I keep getting differing answers from family and friends and it's been a while since any of them had a baby. My doctor said 6 months, but I don't want to wait that long!! I have an 18 month old and my daughter was born July 22, 2009. I feel like I've been pregnant nonstop for two years and I'm ready to have my body back. So please....how long do I have have to wait and what can I do?? What is the best way to lose the weight after pregnancy?

I have also always heard 6-8 weeks. I had a c-section July 18th (first baby) and am just a few days from the 6 week mark and definitely feel up to it but I still have stomach pain until a little after 4 weeks postpartum. I think it also depends on what you do. I was doing stuff around the house 1 week after but wasn't allowed to drive for those 2 weeks right after. I am breastfeeding and have lost a little over 30 lbs which is great b/c I gained 65! So I am beyond ready to work out. I used to be pretty petite. I heard to start off small like walking (even w/ the baby - it's like having weights in your hands) and see how you feel.

I was told 6-8 weeks as well. I just started working out and its been 8 weeks. Just take it slow and see how your body responds to it.

Just ask your doctor! I tried to exercise too early and got bleeding and cramps as my reward. ^_^;;

I have a book for pregant pilates, and it has a whole seciton for post partum pilates. it gives good slow start ab workouts and more- i would go to book store and look around. all the pregnant ones i found will still give the results you want afterward also. and most had a section for post delivery. all i've read say you can exercise as soon as your ready.

Typically it's 6 weeks. I was mowing our yard by 3 weeks after my 4th c-section though. It's really when you feel ready and up to it just take it easy and don't overdo yourself. I've been taking nightly walks with the baby since 2 weeks, it's easy exercise and nice to get out of the house for both of us.

I am almost 3 weeks post-delivery and my doctor gave me the "okay" to do ab workouts, but she said no cardio except light walking for now. She said that she will most likely clear me for working out at 6 weeks. Their concern is that your body has been through the rigors of pregnancy and child birth, so it needs time to recoup before you push yourself too hard.
I've found that breastfeeding has helped me lose a ton of weight (30 lbs out of the 35 I gained). Now I'm working on toning up my stomach. You can find some great ab workouts online. Once I'm cleared, I plan to begin taking my son for a walk every day and doing squats, lunges, ab work, and light arm weights. It's all about starting slow and building. Good luck!!

Thanks. I did feel a lot worse after the 2nd c-section, but I'm feeling great now so I guess I'll try just walking. Let me know how you're doing because I have a hard time losing weight and I've never really tried before.

I was told 6 weeks... I had a c-section though... With my 1st I started walking and light work outs after about 2 weeks. Every one says the second section is worse so I'm going to wait at least 3 weeks this time... I guess it depends on how you feel, Mine is only 12 days now, But I think I'll be up to it next week
