For the last couple of weeks, my baby goes almost a week without pooping. She doesn't seem uncomfortable, fussy, isn't running a fever. She just doesn't poop. I've tried giving her an ounce of apple juice. I've tried starting her on rice cereal. She's a breastfed baby. Her stools aren't hard. I've talked to the nurses at her pediatrician's office, and they say this is normal. Is anyone else's baby experiencing this?

Breastmilk is so easily digestable that there isn't much to poop out. I went through it too. I called my peds office and got a nurse that didn't know what she was talking about and freaked me out and had me get supositories, and then I called back and got a good nurse. She even emailed me the info from the AAP to make me feel better.

my daughter has done this sense about 2mon. She is exclusively breastfed also and was going almost 4 days without pooping. Again with no distress or discomfort I was told its no worry but it was still scary. i tried the apple juice with no significant chagnes so I kind of started force feeding her and making her eat a little longer. that got her going daily except for the days i work and she gets a bottle.

Mine just did this for the first time. He is 4.5 months and BF only. We just waited it out. I did try to get him to feed for longer on one breast as the hindmilk has laxative properties. It seemed to work but could have just been coincidence.

my son who is 5 months old now poops once in 2 or 3 days. Once upon a time used to poop thrice in 24 hrs when exclusively breastfed. Now he is formula as well as breastfed. Its perfectly normal for them to go without poop for 7 days. Unless they are fussy and stools are not hard, you need not worry. However, i give him 10 ml of plain water after or before every feed from the 5th month. Once you start semi-solids his poop wil be more frequent.

i would skip the juice, if shes having cereal already and is ok with that i would go ahead and give her a tbsp of baby prunes. worked like a charm with my lil guy. but b/f babes sometimes dont poop for days at a time. good luck!

my little girl gets like that and wont go for 7-10 days but she is just fine. her doc's say it is ok as long as she isnt uncomfortable. she does seem to go after a warm bath with a little baking soda.

I wouldn't worry about trying to give juice or anything, your baby will poop when she needs to! My son goes about a week in between poops sometimes and he's BF. Juice and water are empty calories for a baby and all it does is take up room in their tummy, it's better to just continue to nurse. As long as she isn't fussing more than normal, straining, or seems to be in pain I wouldn't be too concerned!

My little one does not go very often and it does not bother him at all, health visitor says its perfectly normal for them to go up to 6 days without any cause for concern.

My son is exclusively a breastfed baby and recently he didn't poop for a whole week too. We were worried but he didn't seem uncomfortable or fussy and every thing else is normal in his day. We didn't have to give him any juice or sugar water.

I started my son on rice cereal last Monday. Everything was great until Friday and then he didn't have a bowel movement all day Saturday. This is extremely odd for him because he generally goes after every feeding. I decided to not give him cereal on Sunday - just milk(breast fed exclusively) and by Sunday night he had a terrific bowel movement.

Hey there. My son, 5 months, only goes once a week also. He is a breastfeed baby and has been doing this for a couple of months now. I asked the health nurse and she said with breastfeed babies they can go up to a MONTH without pooping and that it is totally normal!

my friend could time when her baby went for a poo! She said it was every wednesday at 2.30ish! and she was breastfeeding!

My baby goes every 6-7 days and he is breast fed. Since I started supplementing at daycare with some formula, he has been going more often. Breast milk has very little waste because it is made just for the babies system so I guess it makes sense that they don't need to poop as often.

If you're breastfeeding, your baby can go up to 7 days without pooping and still be ok.

My little one goes through this as well, time to time. Another suggestion to change the juice you give. Pear juice works real well (normally less than 12 hrs), and white grape juice as well. Also, give her the juice in a 4 oz bottle, with the other 3 ozs of just water. I do this with mine and like I said, it works well for her.

it is normal. my baby will go 4-5 days without pooping. if you do get worried though especially because rice cereal may make her constipated, give her some sugar water, it will work wonderful. :)
