my son will be 1 in July and still is not walking. Is there something wrong with him? I say that because my daughter was walking at 8 months old.

The average age for a child to take their first steps is 12-13months and most aren't walking well until 14months. That being said the normal range for when babies take their first steps is 7-18months.

It's all about when they are ready! My daughter isn't walking either... She'll be one on July 1st. I'm not too worried about it. Some kids want to walk more than others and I know my little Vivienne will get there... When she's ready of course!

Dont worry! my youngest will be one on the 14th july and hes not walking yet and my eldest now 2 and a half didnt start walking until a month and half after his 1st birthday every child developes at a different speed as long as he is crawling and possibly starting to pull his self up on things he is at the normal development stage for his ages.

My son just took his first few steps today and he will be 1 July 7th. My daughter was the same way. I don't think you have anything to worry about! :)

Hi, my son is also 1 in july(mid) and hes also not walking, boys do seem to take longer to do things than girls, and dont think theres anything wrong, i just think they will when theyre ready. I dont actually think my son just plain doesnt really want to, he can get to me crawling faster lol, he can walk behind something. Hope this helps

My son will be 1 on the 20th and he not even pulling up or standing. All he does is get on his knees most boys do things one step at a time so i dont worry about him standing or walking. He will get it at his own pace.

My son was walking at 9 1/2 months old, my daughter, a few weeks from being a year old, just barely started crawling. No worries on walking till they are closer to 18 months old.

Why would you think something is wrong with him? :( Of course not... don't go by the "general chart of milestones"... I heard girls do everything earlier than boys anyways. My first son didn't start walking till 13 months and my youngest is going to be a year old in July also and isn't walking yet- although he's well on his way, I think :) He takes 1-2 steps and balances on his own. I'd say just go with the flow! :D Enjoy the fact he's not walking yet LOL!!!! I know I am :D

hey my son will be 1 on july 8th and he is not walking yet. he crawls and walks with his push along walker and walks around furniture. But all babies are so different and you cant pin point when they will reach each milestone. some children dont walk untill 15 months but i would not worry untill that point if he is still not walking. I think as long as he has strength in his legs and is showing signs that he can walk with aid then not to worry just yet : ) x

My little girl will be 1 on July 1st and isn't walking. She doesn't even stand alone and if you hold her hands and let go she just sits down. Every child is different.

Don't worry! My little one is going to be 1 on July 19th, and she isn't walking either. She is crawling and pulling herself up and when she thinks she is cool, she tries to stand with 1 or no hands and ends up on her butt! Your baby is just fine!

I am in the same boat, my son will be 1 in two weeks (July 12) and I am very worried about him not walking yet, he is very tall for his age and so the doctor said that it is hard for him to balance. He doesn't even like to crawl, he prefers to scoot on his bum. I am hoping he will try to walk soon.
Good Luck

I would look at his overall development. It's never too soon to be mindful if you begin suspecting delays, especially if they extend to other areas as well. For example, is he even trying? does he crawl? does he talk "communicate" with you? (I've notice that when they are working on their language and social skill they become less mobile and vice versa)

If you're worried make sure to ask you doctor and point out any concern you might have.

Having said that like everyone else has said it is perfectly "normal" for a one year-old not to walk. It often times has to do with exposure and not always developmental. My 1 year-old daughter has less opportunities to practice walking than my son had because we are a lot busier these days. I'm not too surprised she's not walking yet even when she's been standing on her own since she was 10 months old. My son learned to walk when he was 10, had a scary fall at 11 months and didn't resume walking again until he was 14 months old.

My daughter just started walking last week, at 11 months old. She didn't even act like she new what to do, and she just took off one day. All babies develop differently, so don't worry. Your son will start walking when he's ready. I'm stressing out because she my daughter isn't drinking from a sippy cup, yet. lol

I once heard a doc say the smarter kids don't walk early because they are afraid to fall. Your's must be a smart one!! My little boy will be 1 on July 3rd, and he only walks if he holds onto something.

My Daughter will be 1 in July also and is not walking on her own or standing alone yet either. She will only walk with assistance. She will just pull herself up on things and stand and walk around holding on. Don't worry each and every child develops at their own speed. Just be patient I am sure your son will walk soon. We are all eager to see our babies take those first steps! I know I am!! lol

My daughter will be one on the 16th of July and she just started pulling herself up and walking along furniture.. I was worried when i would compare her to other babies but, that's not a good thing to do.. Haylee talks more, and rolled over faster, she even started crawling faster.. so it's just impossible to compare.

My son will be 1 on July 8. He started walking at 10 months. He cruised around furniture for about a month and used a push toy and just took off one day. My niece is 4 and she didn't start walking until 14 months. Every baby is different and walks at different times. I wouldn't worry. Yours will walk. I think average is between 12 to 15 months old.

My son will be one on July 7th and he isnt walking or standing unsupported. He loves standing up but only if he is holding on to something. He walks around couches tables and with his little walking toys but not alone. I have started letting go when he is standing he stands for a few seconds with a hugh smile on his face and the sits down. Its too cute. Im not worried either I know kids develop differently. He was army crawling at 5months but didnt start crawling until about 9 months.

you dont have anything to worry about. Your child is perfectly normal. Its like having teeth. They will come out when they are ready and your child will walk in due time. Encourge your bay and make sure they know that you are there if they fall. Be sure to laugh with them when it happens and it will not be as traumatic as it would be without your presence.

My twins were crusing around furniture at 9 months, but refused to walk until they were 17 months. I wouldn't worry about it. I know that's hard, but true. My sons just absolutely refused to walk. I made them crawl up and down stairs, out to the car, at church, EVERYWHERE and still they didn't walk until 17 months. Now, they are running everywhere. LOL Just be patient.

I don`t think anyone here should worry! 10-11 months old who are walking well by themselves is still very very early. My daughter is 11 months now and she`s walking very good. But everywhere we go we hear she`s incredibly early! When a child doesn`t walk at 18 months it might be time to find help. But for now, let them do their thing...

my osn who was born early started walking at 13 months but started crusing at 11 months. my little girl who started crawling a few months ago in trying to get up by self but will only get up to stand with a little nudge up with our help i was sure she would have started walking by now but she wants to have help from us or just likes to crawl which she is quite happy doing. i must say her words surpasse her walking which is something i am very pleased with . her brother could only say 5 words til he was 3 found out it was 80% blockage with adnoyds and tonsils. walking can alos take some time i knew a girl who didnt start walking til she was 15 months!!!

All children are different. My son is using things to walk around, he still hasn't even stood by himself for more than a second. I think it depends on when the kiddo really wants to. There really isn't anything wrong with not walking, some won't walk until they're one and a half or even later.
