Hi my son is just over 6 months hold, i have been weaning him since he was 4 months. Jacob loves his food, he has 3 meals a day (including puddings after each meal), he also has snacks such as yogarts. He really is not bothered about milk, i have put his bottles down to 4 oz, as he usely wastes the 6oz bottles i used to give him. I thought if i give him less more frequent he might have more!! Hes only taking a couple of milk extra each day. Is 12 oz enough milk for a 6 month old?

My doctor just told me that a 6 month old should have at least 24 oz per day. That is with feeding them 3 meals a day.

i agree with the moms that 12oz doesn't sound like enough - my ped also says breastmilk/formula is the primary source of nutrition - its more complete than the solids at this point - but i would really talk to your ped in detail about the diet - your baby will definitely be feeling full on all those solids and that might be discouraging the bottle intake but he may not be getting all nutritional needs met that way

My daughter has stopped drinking as much formula since she started solids. She has 5oz about 4 times a day and is eating solids once or twice a day. She usually doesn't want a bottle at all after her solid feedings, 2 oz if anything. I don't want to give her too much solids because it's just to get her used to eating, not for her primary nutrition. She is on the little side so I want to make sure she gets enough calories to grow to an average baby weight.

I would say that 12oz isn't enough, but you won't know for sure if he's getting adequate nutrition unless you ask his pediatrician and explain what he eats on a daily basis.

Hi! So, I have been doing a ton of research on this because we are just starting solids...at 6 months (and up to a year) the majority of their calories should be from breastmilk/formula. What my pedi encouraged was to feed M milk first, then food second. The World Health Organization recommends that you give 6-7 month old babies 2-3 servings of food per day, increasing as necessary for your kid's appetite. Food at this age is complimentary, not primary. (Some children are even EBF up to a year!) What's so great about milk is that it contains the best possible nutrients for our little ones, which is why it's still so important. Solids don't offer that. The average amount of formula for a 6 month baby is 28 oz.
I hope that helps...

I am facing a similar experience, my daughter hardly has more than 2.5 oz at one go. I guess with the introduction of newer varieties of food, interest in milk will reduce. As long as they have other meals properly, I don't think we should worry too much about milk intake. It should be treated as a subsidiary and not a proper meal, as was the case earlier.
