My little boy will be 11th months in 3 days and won't drink out of a straw. He will drink water, juice, and formula out of a regular sippy cup. but i have heard that keeping them on sippy cups for a long time starts messing up their gums and teeth!!!

i have problems in getting my son to take fluids other than his milk,, have tried different types of tippy cups,, but one thing i find is taking a a normall cup and letting him have a drink like we do works sometimes... you have to have your wits about you or they will grab the cup and they will end up wearing it,, but he will sip watered down juice like this..

My Ped said sippys are fine until 2, then they should start with straws or reg. cups if they have not. My daughter is almost 11 1/2 months and she refuses to drink out of a bottle any longer but she can't drink out of straw no matter how many times or what type we try.

Try a normal straw first. The sippy straws have a harder suction and can make them feel like they aren't doing it right. Both my kids have used straw sippy's before spout and i started them around the 7 months mark. My son is 2.5years old and he used the spout ones for a while after he learned the straw and i then saw about the teeth and speech problems so he doesn't use them anymore. His speech was delayed but i have no clue if it's because of a cup lol. My daughter is 11 months and lovers her straw cup but i only have 1 so i need to get more to get her off the bottle soon.

My daughter just started using a straw today, every other attempt I made resulted in her simply chewing on the straw so I was pretty excited. Her grandma had just bought her a new cup with a straw ( its a Dora cup made by Munchkins) and when I gave her it at first she just chewed on it like usual. Then I held the cup upside for a second, almost like I was feeding her a bottle, and then she started sucking on the straw, and when I put the cup right side up , she just kept going. Too funny! I tried a regular straw with her right now, and shes a regular pro at it now LOL!
