Stephanie - you personally attacked me for what research I have done. I am not a new mother and I have worked in an Infant center when I was younger as a teacher. Just because you have done you research and haven't found what I have doesn't mean what I said was wrong. You commented how I wrote my advise so no you weren't encouraging women to research. You did a personal attack. I am sorry you feel that your advice is the only advise. Every doctor has their own advice. Not every doctor is going to say the same thing. I encourage mothers to research since there is the internet with so much information. Still it is trial and error. I offered advice from my experience and what my family friends (who are some of the top doctors in my area) which is what forms like this are about. I hope all mothers are encouraged to look for themselves and not just believe what a doctor or others have said. To all mothers- be proactive. Listen to others, research it, and then , if you want, try it. Until you try something with your child you will never know how it will affect them.

I was encouraging women to read up on the subject for themselves...I even posted a link. What you are saying is not anywhere in the research I have done. Do what you will.

My daughter is 3 months old and I give her 200ml in a bottle and she has 6 a day. She does not finish any of these bottles but maybe drinks 180ml in 4 bottles each and then 60-100ml on the other 2. I started my son on solids at 4 months and will be doing the same with this one. She is already watching what we are eating which they say is a sign that they are ready when they show interest in what u are eating. I started with pureed potato as first meal and gave it of a night time because it can help them sleep through the night if they feel more full.

Quoting Stephanie:
Rice cereal is recommended because it causes fewer allergic reactions.
My baby is exclusiveley breastfed, and has no problems with being regular. No fiber in breastmilk!
Babies will sleep through the night when their stomachs are capable of holding all the nutrition they will need while they sleep.
I have done plenty of research, and I've also gotten a lot of advice from my son's pediatrician. I suggest YOU learn some grammar and stop doling out ridiculous and potentially harmful advice to strangers.
For what it's worth, the APA recommends starting solids/cereal between 4 and 6 months. I don't know where you heard that 2.5 months is okay, but I doubt it was from a doctor.
You know I never go out of my way to say mean and hateful things to people. I have done research and have talked to doctors. Someone asked and I gave advise. If you read my post you would have seen I said research it yourself. Rice cereal is know to consipate children. When you start feeding cereal some babys get consipated because mose rice cereal has iron in it. . You are one person and have talked to one doctor. For every doctor out there, there are two more saying something different. I have been around doctors my whole life and I am a nursing student so what I have said is a collection of data I have collected. Every child is different. Many mother's out there don't follow everything the APA encourages. Are you going to personally attack them? Be an adult and give advise if you have it not personal attack someone just because you feel it wrong. It makes you look bad. Have a great day

Well my son eats on demand. I also give oatmeal before bed to help him through the night. I know it is recommended not to give him cereal but I have done it with both babies and they are fine. I believe if the baby can sallow it, they are ready. I figure this is what other have been doing for hundreds of years. If you do give a cereal I suggest oatmeal. Rice seems to constipate babies. Oatmeal is a lot better for babies and it's fiber. It will keep them regular. I suggest you research it on the web. Doctors tell you what the Board of Pediatric medicine says. I say doing anything with your kids are trail and error. Some children can start cereal right away and other can't

Please read this before you continue to give your infant solids. Your baby's digestive system is not ready for them.

p.s. my little girl was very tiny and thin at birth but now she is an adorable healthy chubby bubby who suprised the doctors with her weight but they say she is very healthy and doing extremely well with her developement. My opinion is if they can hold their head up they can start having pureed veges.

my little girl is 3 months now and drinks usually about 6-7 oz every 3 hours but for the last week she has started having the 4-6 month old heinz food probably about 2-3 teaspoons full 1 or 2 a day . She seems to settle alot better at night and stays asleep longer. She aint too sure of the fruit ones yet but love the pumpkin and vege ones. I tried baby cereal and oatmeal but she hated it. sometimes she doesnt drink as much bottle like only 4 oz or less so i give her that and after a bottom change she is out like a light.

My baby was born 8lbs 14oz and just turned 3 months. He has around 5oz of formula every 3/4 hours through the day, we put him down after his bath and last feed around 9.30pm and he sleeps for a good 6-9 hour stretch. He is now a healthy 16lbs and 27 inches long. I disagree in giving babies solids so young.

No solids yet here, probably not until at least 4mths old though thinking a bit older?? Still on demand feeding so haven't actually counted how many times a day lately, but she's sleeping through the night with a dreamfeed so not really concerned. Would probably average out to be 3hrs if I was timing it.

My daughter just turned 3 months this week. She eats formula only, about 4oz (5x) a day for a total of 20oz-22 oz. I was told for that we can't start solid foods, or even rice cereal till 6 months, but its because A has some skin issues (ezchema) and the doctor is being a bit cautious. I say it depends on the kid and do what you think is right for you child.

My babies 2months and 2weeks, my bf doesnt want me to give him solids yet so were waiting till 4-6 months.. I breastfeed him every 4 or more hours, depending if he's awake and wants it more often, or if hes asleep for awhile.. Now he sleeps longer and can go longer without it, so its easier on me..

My youngest daughter is eating 5 oz every three hours between 8 am and 8 pm, then she goes down about 9 pm. She gets a 6 oz bottle when she wakes up. But my oldest daughter, when she was this age, was still taking 4 oz every three hours. I think it just depends on the baby, and what your doctor suggests. As for solids, my doctor cautioned against it before 4 months. But thats just my doctor. Everyone's is different, and knows your child better.

i have a 13 weeks old daughter she is exclusivly breatfeed and feeds every 3 to 3 and a half hours. she has her last feed around 9-10 pm and then sleeps until 8-9 am
I don't know how much she is getting every time but when she has a bottle (to help daddy bonding) she takes anything between 130ml and 180ml she nearly doubled her birthweight so i'm not worried.
i won't start solids until she is ready and trust me you'll know (my eldest now 19 months also breastfed at the time fed every hour for 2 weeks so i knew it wasn't a growth spurt)

I have two and a half month old twins. A boy and a girl. And an older daughter who is now fourteen months old. She ate solids at 3 months, My female twin is just starting and my boy I wouldn't even think about giving solids until he can hold his head up. It's more about development than age.

My daughter is 2 months today. She drinks 6 oz ever 3-4 hours. We just started putting rice cereal in her night time bottle a couple of days ago. I was worried that it would constipate her, but luckily it hasn't and she loves it. My doctor told me not to give her cereal until she was 4 months, but I think that every mother knows what is best for their child and not everything can be done by the book. Every child is different and does things and needs things at different times. All I can say is take all the advice you get into consideration, but in the end you know what your child needs.

my son is just over 2 months and is exclusively breastfed every 2-3 hours. he never sleeps more than 3.5 hours (yes I get tired) but I don't intend to give him cereal or any solids until at least 5 months. I don't feel there is an appropriate amount of nutrients compared to breastmilk and I certainly wouldn't do it just to get him to sleep at night, how selfish. Filling his tummy up with cereal wouldn't provide him with healthy benefits of breastmilk at night

Nutritionally, babies don't require any solids until they are much closer to a year. My two older boys we tried starting solids at 6 months and both refused most solids until they were over a year. My 2 1/2 month old son is exclusively breast fed. He nurses every 2-3 hours during the day and usually twice during the night. He's growing just fine, he's put on 5 lbs since birth even with reflux.

My son was born at 10 lbs 4 oz. He is currently eating 6 oz every 3-4 hours, or less more often. I am thinking about starting him on rice cereal next month since my daughter (now two) started when she was three months old. He usually sleeps through the night on a regular 6 oz. bottle.

Bianca,
My son was 8lbs, 12oz when he was born and is now a good 14lbs. He was hungry all the time so I started feeding him a very small bowl of baby oatmeal (mixed with formula) followed by about 3-4oz of formula just before bed and he's been sleeping about 7-9 hours through the night. During the day I just started feeding him 6-7oz every 3-4 hours. My doctor said it was okay to feed him oatmeal as long as he's eating it and it's not too thick.

My son is 2 1/2 mths. old and he wasn't gettin fuul he would take 4 oz at a mth 1/2 old..We started adding a lil bbay cereal at night time and that gives him full tummy and a full nights sleep.Hes in his 95% weight and no issues. Its really your best judgement cause if yu listened to everything the doc told you diff exp for each child. My first daughter which is now 14 was potty trained at 1 and off the bottle at 9 mths..

My daughter is 2 and a half months. I nurse her on demand which is about every two to three hours except during the night (she feeds at 8pm then goes to bed until about 5:30am - then begins the every two hours). Not exactly sure how much she gets during a nursing session, my guess is between 4 and 5 oz.. She is very healthy though and 60th percentile for weight. At her doctor appointment last week, I was told that she wouldn't be able to start on baby cereal until 6 months old. I would say that solids won't be for quite some time.
