I think that we all worry about our babies weight. My daughter is at the other end of the scale. She's 10 months and she's weighing in at around 16 lbs (5th percentail). All babies will gain weight differently. When Kyra was first born (6lbs 1oz) if one more person told me that my baby was incredibly small I was going to burst into tears. I have come to terms with it and she is who she is.
As long as your daughter is growing at her rate then there shouldn't be any problems.

Your baby's weight sounds perfect for this age. My little girl went today for her 9 month appt. and is 21 lbs. 5 oz and 28 in. I don't think it matters how much they eat. We have no control over it (unless a parent is feeding nothing but junk food.) My daughter eats a lot less than my boys did at this age, yet she is bigger than they were!

no she's not heavy...every child is different and perfect :D
my baby is 10 months old, not too sure what she is right now, but when she was 9 months she was 19.8 because she was sick but she got back up to 20 lbs 4 oz when she wasn't sick anymore....i know someone that has a baby baby that was close to 30 pounds at 9 months

My son is just over 9 months old and he weighs 19lb, he takes after his dad where he can eat and eat and find it differcult to put on weight plus my son is always on the move he burns off his food so fast

My son, at his 9 month checkup was 18 lbs and 29.5 inches. He's healthy and eating well, he's just a skinny minny. Last week ( months 3 weeks), at a doc appt. he was 18.1 lbs. He'll be 10 months old on 5/10, and he's been scooting and crawling for 2 months now.

My baby is just 10 months old and he weighs 27lbs...he doesn't eat any babyfood anymore, only everything we eat..he stopped eating his babyfood at 9 months when I gave him some fresh veggies. Ever since then he has to feed himself.

My 9 month old weighs 26 lbs and is 34 inches! He's in the 97% on the growth chart for both. The Dr. isnt conserned because both weight and height are equal. He's just a big baby. So don't worry about it unless the Dr. becomes concerned.

My daughter is 9 months and 1 week old and she is 17lbs 14 oz. She is a little bit under the 50% tile for her age bracket, but she is also though very tall for her age she is in the 96% tile in height coming in at 29 1/4". All babies grow and develop at different speeds. Your daughter might have a period where she doesn't gain weight at all. I wouldn't worry unless a doctor says that her weight is a concern.

I dont think she is to big at all! My daughter who is 2 only weighs 21 pounds and has for a LONG time now. She eats CONSTANTLY too. If it makes you feel any better one of my friends has a baby that is only 3 months old and almost 20 pounds! Now thats BIG!!

I have almost all of you - if not ALL of you - beat. My 9 month girl is barely at the 14 pound mark. She is also only 26.25 inches. She was born thin and has stayed that way, but the doctor finally got concerned today at her 9-month checkup. So we're cutting back on the low-fat solids and feeding her as much formula and breast milk as we can. It looks like the average is between 18 and 22 pounds. All of your babies look pretty normal to me! :) Keep up the good work, moms!

my son is 9 months and 2 weeks weighs 32 pounds and 34 inches tall and already walking and is way of the chart but otherwise very healthy. He was 4 weeks early and weighed 5pounds and 8ounces.I have 2.5 year old twins that weigh less then him.

My daugther was 20 lbs even at her 9 month check up and my son was 23 1/2 lbs at 9 months (he was 10 lbs 6 oz. at birth), both over 90% for height and weight. In time the gain will slow and normal out. My son only gained 8 lbs between his 9 month and 2 year check up...it all works out and as long as she is healthy and you are feeding her a balanced diet there is nothing to worry about.

at his 9 month check up he was 17 pounds and 11 ounces. he is in the bottom 10% for weight but perfectly healthy. besides, I am only 5 ft tall so I'm not expecting him to be very big even though daddy is pretty average height/size lol. I dont think 21 is that big for this age, I've seen kids way bigger than that (kinda scary).

Donovan was 17 3/4 lbs at 9 months and the doctor said he was under weight. He has to be on Pediasure and get a weight check every month. He loves the different flavors but banana creme is his favorite. Right now at 9 month 2 weeks he is 18 to 19 lbs. My baby loves to eat and just eats a till he is full, he barely gets sick the most he has had is either a cold, a cough or fever when he is teething. He can tolerate formula, baby food and currently likes people food too. Basically what I am saying is I believe my baby is happy and healthy and don't understand why the doctor thinks he is underweight. Anyone have this issue too?

My 9 and a half month baby eats well weighs 19 pound and is 73 cms tall...he is on 25th percentile but doc says as long as the growth is inclining we shudn't worry as every baby is different. they should reach triple their birth weight by 1.

My son is 9 mos and weighs 22lbs 5oz. He is in the 75th percentile for weight and the 50th percentile for height. He was born 1 month early (due 8/26, born 7/26) and was 6lb 7oz at birth and 5lb 14oz they day we brought him home. At his 9th month appointment the doc said he was doing great weight-wise, so I think she sounds perfectly fine for weight. The only thing my doc warned as we added new foods was to limit juices because they're mostly sugar with no real nutritional benefit. We haven't started juices, so I think I'm just going to mostly stay away for now.

I guess it just depends on how big she is. My boy is 9 1/2 months old. At his 6 month appointment he was 18 1/2 lbs and 28 inches long. He's grown out of the clothing size he was wearing then so I am sure he's a lot bigger now. 21 pounds doesn't seem heavy to me. of course if she's only 24 inches and 21 lbs.... well, that'd be pretty chunky! lol If your doctor says she's a healthy weight, I wouldn't worry about it.
Laura - posted on 05/01/2010
my Lucy is two foot four and weighs twenty pounds. babies get chunky before growth spurts too. sounds like our babies are all in the same general area but they will usually bulk up before they get taller :)

No, that's not heavy. My son is 23 pounds and .03 ounces at almost 10 months. They weigh what they weigh, not much we can do about it unless we are not feeding them enough or trying to overfeed them. My son is also 31 inches tall, so that has some bearing on how much he weighs as well.

i think it just really depends on the child. my daughter will be 10 mos on the 1st and she is 19 pounds! she eats all of the time but she is very active and has been since she was 4 mos. i think it shouldnt matter until they get older...unless they are way over weight. but once they start walking and running it will shed quicker than anything! good luck..
