I know you can give them baby juices but they are so expensive. I remember years ago there was a big no no about giving babies diluted squash such as Ribena in bottles beacuse it rots their teeth. I want to introduce juices/squash into my sons diet cos i figure thats what he will drink when he gets older (he just has plain water now) but I dont want to harm his teeth (all 2 of them! lol).

Is it ok to give him diluted sugar free sqash - the same as I would drink - in a beaker? Its just that the baby ones are so expensive!

My son loves his juice! Sam's sells boxes of baby juice that is and assortment of apple, white and pear. As far as squash goes...I give my son the squash from the Gerber baby jars. They also have a butternut squash. He LOVES it!

I would advise avoiding drinks with artificial sweetners (aspartame, etc), as scientists are still divided as to the side effects/healthiness of consuming these chemicals, and quite honestly, I don't really want to take a risk with my LO while her system is still so young.

Thankfully, she'll glug water down like it's going out of fashion, using a free-flow spouted cup (like the Tommy Tippee ones). I don't really understand why you feel you need to give juice to your baby if he's already happy drinking water; don't bother trying to flavour it - water's best/healthiest/cheapest/least effort. If you want the health benefits of fruit juice, just give him the fruit! x

my 8th month old daughter only drinks her formula. I was told she could have water if she ever seemed dehydrated but she never has. I'm in no hurry to start with juice. we've never had a constipation problem but I keep a jar of stage 1 prunes in the house just in case.

thanks guys. I think i'll stick to water for a while longer and then go for diluted squash (Melissa squash is just concentrated juice drink) or fruit juice in a cup. x

Water is the best,,, but pure orange juice, apple juice (plent of others) diluted 1 part juice to 10 parts water.
Try not got give your baby this in a bottle, (worse thing for their teeth) get a baby cup with a spout and handles,, or like me each day i let him try drinking out of a proper cup - lol they will end up wearing some of it (stick to water at first) but will help them learn and they like it as they are copying mommy and daddy.

You don't need to give him anything but water/breastmilk/formula at this age. Just because he'll have it when he's older there's no reason to do it now.
