My little girl smiled at around 7 weeks in response to me. That was her first social smile. She had other smiles before that, but they were just random. Now, at 9 weeks, she smiles all the time.

Supposedly babies can start to smile at any time after they are born. I think my daughter started about the 2nd or 3rd week after birth. According to an article I just read when a baby is 2 months or older the smile is real and they are reacting to you or others they smile at.

My daughter was born on the 1st. I don't know exactly when My baby's first smile was... I think it had to be when she was 2 months old.... she was a month preemie though... so i don't know if thats a little late, early or just on time. lol. She would smile when she farted and when she would fall asleep since she came home from the hospital (17 days old). She smiles intentionally now though. Every time she gets changed, hears a cool tune, gets kisses, gets poked... yeah, she smiles for pretty much everything now.
