Any advice on discipline for defiance?

My 4 year old son is in this defiance mode where he just screams at me all the time and he started hitting me and purposely defies me. I'm at a loss on how to handle this. ntohing i try seems to work....I've try to ignore it, I've tried time-out, and I hate to admit it but I've even gave in to a spanking or two for the times that he's really went at me. I don't know if he's behaving this way because I just delivered his baby sister 3 months ago (another June baby) and he feels out of touch. Anyone else going through this? I'm told it's just a phase...

yep, been there done that. My son is a redhead, so it's needless to say he's stubborn anyway. I had to start taking the thinngs he loved away..I.e. spongebob, video games. Then I would just explain to him that it was not ok the way he was behaving. He has gotten better. there were a few spanking in there, and there is nothing wrong with spanking as long as you are not doing out of anger. Try to make a play date, just you and him, maybe while baby sister is napping, laundry and dishes can wait, or make him part of it. Bake cookies with him...my son loves baking cookies, then eating them with millk while they ae still warm. Good luck
