yes my son can write his own name what i will say as i am a pre 5 teacher is that they will all do it at the own rate i have never "taught" kyle to write. Also to any mum's thinking about helping there child if you write there name for them to copy never use uppercase(capital) letters x

What we did with my little girl is taught her a little rhyme with her name spelling. Then we just showed her how and she got it right away. It was never that easy with my other 2 little girls. I almost forgot my daughters name is Lybertee.

Adeife will be 5 on June 12. He writes his names but most times you found that the letter A is up while the others are somewhere down below mixing the uppercases in between the lower cases, LOL but correctly though. We are working on it.

My daughter can write her name with no problem (Tess) but my son (Jacob) has a little bit more trouble. I have five kids and i've noticed that more likely than not boys have more trouble with doing everything than girls do...it's like girls just catch on faster.

Lorne could write his name before he started school, but my other son,Chase, had no interest in learning to write until he started school. His name looked heiroglyphics or some alien language from Star Trek at first. It was so cute.

Hi, my son Andrew don't know how to write his name. But he is aware of all his basic skills. I'm not to concerned but it is difficult for me because I am a pre k teacher. My class of 4-5 year olds can spell their names, read an write them, backwards if they needed too. But this is my job. My own child is learning through repetition an play. This is much more better for him I think. I believe its healthier an less stressful on a child.

oh- and hannah- I wrote my name backwards when I was in kindergarten every now and then- no dyslexia or anything- it was pretty transient :) I think it's due to not realizing that everything is supposed to be read/written left to right or not knowing left from right yet :)

my son can write his name without help but tends to connect the bottom of the n at the end his name is Owen- so not horribly complicated :) but it's like pulling teeth sometimes to get him to even sit down to color or write cause he's just not interested- so for him with as little time he spends practicing it i'm pretty proud of him for it :)

My daughter Natasha loves to write her name and also her siblings... to the point that I found pencil drawings of there name above each bed. It was cute. Word World sparked her interest in spelling. She'll spell along with them but seems to retain the information later as she makes her younger sister spell over and over again.

My little boy can write his first and last name he has been doing it since pre school he is now in reception and can write many other words to and his reading is excellent so much better than my daughters was at his age. I can't believe the difference, his maths is also very good. I cried after the last parents evening as I was so proud of how well he is doing, I worried he would be behind being one of the youngest in the year but he's completely the opposite :o)

Every kids is different. My Maitha has learned and she also knows the whole alphabet and their sounds. She can also read small words. Her 2 older sisters weren't doing this until they were 5, so like I said, every kid is different. That is what makes being a mom of 5 so interesting. never a dull moment!

Carrie, Dellarata, i have a left handed son and he is still struggling with handwriting, he is 9 and in 4th grade, he works really hard at it. all i can recommend is to do exercises to improve his eye hand coordination, i found this to be a big problem.

Chevelle started to learn he name last school year. She attends half day Pre K, she is now able to write her name all by herself and is starting to work on her last name. I attribute this to her older sister and brother asking how to spell things, she has picked up on this.
