Any advice on how to help my little girl stop sucking her thumb. She has stopped sucking it in public places and while watching the TV (because of my intervention), but she is still allowed to suck it on her bed during nap and at night. How do I get her to choose to stop sucking even when she's asleep?

My 3 year old is an on and off again thumb sucker. When I first got her to stop sucking her thumb i would make eww noises everytime i saw her suck her thumb and say i saw poopie on it and for awhile that worked but then she got smarter :). All i do know is tell her to take her thumb out of her mouth everytime i see her suck her thumb. This i heard is a very hard habit to break.

Kat, I turned the TV off everytime I caught her sucking on her thumb. In public I asked her to look around and notice that no one else is sucking their thumb. I also warned her ahead of time that I wasn't going to let her suck her thumb in public. "Today we are going to the store and you can't suck your thumb." Then I would remind her if I saw her start. She was pretty good about listening to me. Once, I did have to tap her on the leg (That's about as close to spanking as I need to get with her because she comes to tears quickly.) and tell her to stop because she was defying me.
I just don't know how to stop Ellie while she's sucking in her sleep.

I am there with you.... My daughter is 3 and still sucks her thumb too, we haven't been able to stop her from sucking it at all so please share how you got her to stop from sucking it in public places and while watching TV.... I think it's a comfort thing and your daughter is probley gonna give it up when she feels comfortable doing so....
