Hello. My Kaiden was the sweetest little angle until about 2 weeks ago. He hardly ever cried unless he was tired and has been sleeping 10-12 hours straight at night since he was 6 weeks old. A few weeks ago this all changed. He can be so sweet one minute then screaming unconsolably the next. I 1st thought teething...although he already has 2 teeth....then i thought ear infection (went to the dr. ..that was negative)...then he had a bout of diarhhea so i thought teething or stomach virus....now he appears to be healthy but still wakes up between midnight and 2 am screaming at the top of his lungs. We tried to console him in various ways of which none of them worked. It has now reached the point that when he starts, he manages to throw every blanket, pacifier, rattle, or whatever else over the rail of the crib and across the room. Then my mom told me he may jsut be throwing a temper tantrum b/c he thinks it is time to play again. He has now gotten really effecient at crawling and pulling up and 1 1/2 weeks ago began walking along the furniture. I have read that some babies go through this when they begin to get very mobile. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, what did you do or was there an underlying cause?

ironic that you say that Dana, Parker had really bad reflux as well and we have been weaning off the zantac.  Last night was okay here.  He woke his usual 2 time for food... he is such a pig... I think we may have a growth spurt on our hands as well.

Well....we managed to make it through last night without him making a noise. Maybe we are back to old times again. This whole experience has just been draining...emotionally and physically. Night before last we let him scream for 10 minutes and then went and gathered everything back up and put back in his crib and laid him back down....at that point he cried for another minute and a half and then passed out. Gas had not been the issue (we had been through that nightmare at about 3 weeks old)...we even thought the idea we had started meat products might be the reason so we cut that out the middle of last week. Another thing is he had acid reflux pretty bad as a newborn and he was on prevacid. A little over a month ago the Dr. advised us to begin weening him off of it b/c he was not spitting up any. So we did. However, he spit up some of his dinner last night so i gave him a dose of his prevacid around 6 and i am wondering now if this could have been some of the problem too. This age is so tough b/c everything can be linked to teething or going mobile and you constantly worry if something more serious is wrong.

He might have gas. The next time he does this try pushing his knees to his rib cage. He might toot for you. ; ) Have you tried a swing or a white noise maker? My son would only sleep in a swing for the longest time.

Kids go through these phases. As nerve wracking as it is it's normal. ; )

my lil one had a major crying fit today, and it worried me alot, i was about ready to bring her to the doc when she stopped. it was the same, she was napping and just woke up screaming, but then was unconsolable. She has just begun the mobile stage and getting real good at crawling, and i have noticed some separation anxiety. no night tantums here yet, and omg i would probly cry if that happened at night!!! just me, lol.

OMG!  This just started happening to us too!  Parker is so good natured usually but lately he is demanding and VERY clingy.  If his pereferred parent leaves the room he cries, at night he wakes screaming to the point where I took him to get his ears checked b/c the last few times he screamed like this was when he had an ear infection.  I am going out of my mind with no sleep!

Hi there, my son is just over 7 months old now and we spent the last couple of weeks trying desperately to console him when he woke up screaming in the middle of the night. He woke up between 11 pm - 1 am consistently. I have been told that may be because he is lonely since babies go through separation anxiety at about his age. He has always been a good tempered baby that barely cried and now he cries whenever I leave the room or even if I stop watching him play! I have tried to leave something with my scent on it in his crib at night time and that seemed to have made the tantrums a bit less fierce. He has also become very mobile at this point so maybe that is what it is. Last night was the first night he has EVER slept through without waking and I am so relieved! Good luck and hang in there.
