My daughter is 17 months old and has diarrhea and a very bad diaper rash. Does anyone have ideas I can try to stop the diarrhea and treat the rash?

Try not giving her as much, or any fruit juice b/c most juice contains fairly high amounts of citric acid, which can make diaper rash worse. Also, juice in general can make diarrhea worse. So, very little juice, if any at all for starters and a diaper rash cream. I have found that Desitin Creamy works really well. Usually within the first few applications it is completely gone or almost completely gone, depending on the severity. It is a lot cheaper than other diaper rash ointments and it works better than some of the pricier ones, so I think it's a safe bet all around. Also, I noticed someone suggested the Original Desitin. I have never used that one, but I know people that have and swear by it and it is also a good bit cheaper than other ointments as well.

Also try to change your milk to more sensitive brand for a few days or less scoops of powder more water. Nan sensitive is a good brand if u can get it. Bio-flora is excellent for keeping babies minerals etc due to diarrhea but get doctors advice, and clean babies bottom with plain water or bath every nappy change. Never use wipes it just aggrevates the problem.

I find that plain corn starch is a miracle cure for babies nappy rash, it works immediately. Also Elizabeth Ann's baby powder with lavender and corn starch is good.

For the diarrhea, try to take away milk and replace with pedialyte...it always works for my 17 mth old twins...and with the rash..is it spotty or just all over red?? If it a solid red, just coat with cream and give lots of soothing warm baths. If it is spotty or has rasied red or white areas it may be a yeast infection. If it is..you need to get a perscription for cream from your doctor

I know this sounds a little weird but my doctor told me to use athletes foot cream on it bc its a fungus. It helped so much! I really dont know about the diarrhea I would call a doctor. It could be a virus that is going around! Good luck!!!http://apps.facebook.com/circleofmoms/th...

Keep it as clean and dry as you can. I used Aveeno oatmeal bath to soothe the rash and the original Desitin, the one that says over night protection. It always worked the best for us. I would give my babies several baths a day when in this situation because the wipies hurt their bottoms. Also try letting her nap with no diaper, lying on a towel just in case!

There is an over-the-counter diaper rash cream, Butt PAste, it used to be available only by prescription. I found it to best the best one. As for the diarrhea, I would call your doctor.
