I'm so frustrated..my daughter is 71/2 months old and has already had 5 ear infections plus fluid build up. I hate seeing her in pain. I have an appt with the ENT, but they can't see her till March 23. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem. I hate it!!

My daughter had 7 in 6 months by the time she was 14 months old.. and we did the tubes. Not one ear infection since then!! It sounds like that may be where your headed... but it does seem to make all of the difference. My little guy has only had 1 so far, and fingers crossed, that will be the last one (but who knows!)

i have to tell you moms about this stuff....i used to get earaches ALOT and there is a temporary fix for them.It is called Auralgan. its a small bottle of fluid that you put into your  ear...i asked my doctor if it is safe for babies and he said oh yes! He was surprised that i knew about it but i have to tell you , being an earache sufferer myself it really really works!!!!!!!

thanks to everyone for sharing their experiences with me. We finally had the ENT appt. on Tues. She has mild hearing loss in her right ear probably due to fluid build up. She will be having tubes put in on March 13 and hopefully this will fix the problem. I am so very nervous about the surgery. I know it is minor, but still it is surgery and she's so small. This seems to be the best option for us right now especially with the hearing loss..this worries me. I think it is common though with ear infections?

THanks again everyone..I really do appreciate the comments.

sorry to hear

My son started getting them at 4 months and by the time he got tubes put in, at 3 and a half he had 22 ear inefctions.  I feel for you, when their babies it espescially hard.  Only things I can tell u to help her feel better is , try not to give her her soother it will pop her ears, if shes chewing things like a Mum-Mum (those corn rusks) or a cloth that will help with the pressure.  I wish you all the luck and if she ends up needing tubes its ok, they recover quick and dont really seem phased.

My son use to get ear infections all the time as an infant. He has very bad allergies. They finally put him on allergy medicine & he hardly ever gets an ear infection any more. I think he has had 1 in the past 2 years. My daughter is 8 months old & she startted getting them too. The pediatrician went ahead & tried the allergy medicine with her & it has fixed the problem. My husband had severe ear infections as a child & did have tubes but he still got the infections. He also has bad allergies. He still gets ear infections several times a year if he doesn't stay on the allergy medicine. You might check with your dr & see if they think this could be a cause. If nothing else maybe they can try the allergy medicine until you can get in to see the ENT.

I've also heard accupuncture can actually reshape the ear canal.  There also are accupuncturists who specialize in in pediatric cases.  I imagine it can't hurt to try a more natural approach first?  i received this information from a massage class I attended when my son was a baby.  I've never personally tried it.  My 8 month old currently has her first ear infection.  Let's hope I never have to!  Good luck everyone!

Ok so this is probably going to freak some people out but I know  people who have had great results taking their kids to chiropractors. One such was told by an ENT to have tubes put int he child's ears, but after a few months of consistent chiropractic adjustments the child did not have nay more infections and therefor did not need to have that surgery done. Good Luck!

We have the same problem.   We had 4 infections in 2 months and I am afraid that we are on number 5.  Whenever he gets stuffy he gets and infection.  I am hoping that we are avoiding it but we'll see.  I see tubes in our future.  I had major ear infections as a child.  Unfortunately I did not get tubes which means I have tons of scaring and I actually still get ear infections if you can believe that!  So if my dr offers tubes for my son we are taking them so he can avoid what I went through as a kid... and still go through sometimes.

I'm so sorry your baby is going through this also. You're lucky they are willing to do something so quickly..we have just now gotten the appt with the ENT after 5 infections. My husband never had ear infections, but I did and had tubes and so did my brother. So I guess Addison just has my ears, poor baby. Addison also wakes up several times a night crying. I hate every second of these infections! I hope your baby gets well soon!

i completly know what you are going through.. My son got his first ear infection at the end of December, they thought it was because of flying but now he has another and it is the worse thing!! They told me If he comes up with one more tubes are going in.. My husband had a really bad problem with ear infections and ended up with tubes and so did my brother I guess I was lucky. My son usually sleeps through the night and now gets up 2 or 3 times screeming and grabbing his ears..

Hey, thanks for the support. No she's not on cows milk yet. She's been getting the ear infections one a month...almost exactly a month apart (Nov 8, Dec 8, Jan 8, and Feb 10). We have no animals at all. Every time she gets a snaughty nose she ends up with an infection. Her ped says she thinks she needs tubes and I agree. I had the problem with ear inections as a child and got tubes and have never had another one. I just hate her being in pain all the time at such a young age!

Hi Sarah. That is really awful! I feel for you, because it must really, really suck!! My son did not start getting ear infections until he was about 20 mos old but then he started getting them every six weeks at least. The only thing that really helped was dealing with allergies - we gave away the cat and we cut dairy products from his diet for a long while. At 8 mos old I don't imagine your daughter is drinking cow's milk but maybe you can eliminate it from your diet for awhile and replace it with goat's milk and soy milk. If you have a cat think about finding it a new home. try putting a really good HEPA filter in baby's room which runs day and night with the door closed. Make sure the room she sleeps in isn't dusty. Those are the only things I can think of right now which might improve the situation. GOOD LUCK!
