Eating Tricky Foods

My daughter (late June bday) still only has her front 4 teeth on top and bottom. I have been hesitant to give her things that I think she won't be able to chew or things I think she might choke on. One day her sitter said she had pretzels which I hadn't even thought of giving her yet. Another day at a Christmas party someone gave her a wheat thin cracker. Then I hear of other moms giving their same age kiddos these things. So I am wondering what your thoughts are on things like:

crunchy: chips, pretzels, raw apples/pears, wheat thins, etc.

small/round: grapes, plain m-n-m's, those yogurt covered raisins, etc.

I just worry about her choking.

What kinds of these things do you give your kids? and do they have all their teeth yet?

My son has 12 teeth, 4 bottom, 4 top and and 4 molars. Before my 18 month old (6/30) got his first molars, he was already eating apple and pear slices with no problem. I just cut the skins off and slice them thin. My son has been able to eat crackers and veggie chips (they are softer then potato chips and are rounded so no sharp edges) with no problems, too. I'm just now giving him crunchier things since he has molars, so I would wait until she develops those before I give her sharp items. As for the grapes and M N M's, stay away from the M N M's because those are harder and could pose a choking hazard if she swallowed it whole, but the grapes would be fine if you cut them in halves or quarters otherwise, whole, they would be a choking hazard.

Hello-

My little guy has 2 top teeth and 4 bottom and as we speak the entire top set of teeth are all visable (so sad for him). He was born 6/27 so hang in there!

I don't do chips or anything else you named above excepts raw apples and carrots. The chips, pretzals, wheat things etc. for me are way too sharp and I am afraid he will choke on them or hurt the back of his throat. He has the Gerber veggie crackers, Gerber little fruit puffs and those things that look like cheese curls, but aren't, all because they disolve quickly. He has also had raw apple slices and carrot sticks. I think the cold and texture help him get into hard to reach places with those gums. He rarely bites the apples or sticks and when he does, they are in teeny tiny peices with his front teeth, but he doesn't eat them, they are just for chomping...

Hope this helps!
