I've given mine Baby Mum Mum's and toast..... He's 7 months and usually just plays with it - but a few pieces get in there and he has a blast.

I started this week with Mum Mums for babies.  Organic rice wafers.  He's really proud when he has one!

Do you have a safe feeder? They are great. Just stick an appple lice in there close it up and they chew and bite all day without choking. Also Gerber makes those dissolvable stars and whatnot they just dissapear. I say if she wants it try it. It is a fun stage!

we do the gerber puffs and biter cookies and the toast for self feeding, he loves them and he does really good.. we haven't tried small peices of banana yet but plan on it as he loves them..

I give my 7 month 4 day daughter the Gerber puffs, and she loves them. They dissolve pretty quickly so I don't worry too much about choking. All of my nieces and nephews have been obsessed with them, so I think they're a good bet. I've also tried Cheerios with her, they take a little longer to dissolve.

I actually bought teething biscuits and the desolvable puffs by gerber today. Planning to try them this week. My son is 6 1/2 mo's. Also bought a chunky fruit baby food to try as well & plan to try mashed bananas for self feeding. I figure the longer he eats smooth food - the harder it will be to transition. Since they chew with their gums - even with front teeth - what can the harm be if he will take it happily?

I Give my son a milk arrowroot biscuit to chew on every now and then they turn to mush after awhile and he seems to love them. :)

Are you in the US? (there seems to be a lot of international moms here) Try this site: http://www.aplaceofourown.org/. It's the PBS show. They have great feeding tips. There was even an episode where they covered good finger foods for babies your son's age. But check with your doctor first. We're holding off on dairy (cheese/yogurt) and protein (meat/egg yolks) until 8 months. Good luck!

i started my 6 1/2 month old on finger foods about a week ago.

right now we just do chunks of banana and grated apple.

in a week or so i plan on introducing avocado and sweet potatoes.

We give our daughter the gerber biter buscuits(sp?) and the little puffs that dissolve in your mouth. She loves them. She's gotten ahold of her brothers cinnamon toast and pb&j sandwhiches before (I know, uh-oh). I am wondering if these are the reasons she won't get interested in mushy foods like rice cereal. She wants to be able to hold everything herself.

I have a 6 1/2 month old and we have given him vegemite sandwiches which he loves, mainly sucks on it, but of course you just got to watch them with it. :-)

my daughter is 6 months but we haven't tried finger foods. I have her apt tomorrow so thats something that i will bring up.

My daughter is months and she's chewed on celery sticks and the teething cookies but that's about it. Also, she has gnawed on apple slices and seemed to like those, too. Just make sure he can swallow those small pieces.

mine's just 6 months, and she's tried a few things. lol, if i hold her while i'm eating and i don't watch her, she'll pick up whatever she can off my plate, lol. but i have also given her toast and crackers to "chew" on.

My girl Mattea is also 7mths today, I give har pieces of bread/toast to chew on, the other day I found her eating pieces of fruit I had given my older daughter, most of it was all over her lol...
